It's important for a shower to allow you to keep from wetting your hair or beard, since you don't always want to
this is the best part about taking a shower
are you a lizard or something
I don't have hair on my head, and I don't soak my beard every day — just dampen it a bit for application of product
Some people's hair just shouldn't get wet that often (some curly hair, some ethnicities' hair, some treated hair, women with a strict haircare regimen, etc)

My mom asked me to explain how bitcoin works this weekend and it was quite a journey.
At the end, clearly very lost, she asked "so is it good or is it bad?"

Don't people know who owns which blocks of BTC and such?
Like, exchanges know who has control of a wallet because they have to hand money to somebody. And the ledger is open so you can trace where all funds came from. So law enforcement can usually trace ransomware to some degree. But laundering isn't too hard since it's unregulated, and you can make as many anonymous intermediary wallets as you want.

Bob Dylan's performing soon at the school's auditorium.
I wonder if I should go? He's kind of a legendary figure, and it may be my last chance.. but at the same time, I'd be worried I'd be bored out of my mind.

criminal activity seems to be the only thing making bitcoin into an actual medium of exchange and not mere tulip futures
Nah even in that its still tulip futures. Like criminals get fucked by the bitcoin exchange rate too. Hard working child pornographers have been hurt here guys.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Yeah, I remember hearing about bitcoin in 2009 or 2019 and briefly considering picking some up - but then deciding against it because I figured it was a stupid idea that wouldn't catch on
I still think it's a stupid idea and I console my lack of financial gains by reassuring myself that I almost certainly would have lost my wallet at some point over the last decade
One of the cute things to come out of all this trauma with my uncle is how all of my family were tripping over ourselves to offer him our kidneys when we found out his hadn't restarted after he flatlined.
And my mom had to be all "hold your horses guys the doctor says his kidneys are probably going to start working on their own they just need time". Apparently his kidneys just started functioning again so we can all take our kidneys back.

At the end, clearly very lost, she asked "so is it good or is it bad?"
"It is neither. It is very, very dumb"
It's decisively bad. Like if you look at the overall effect of bitcoin it has just been to make criminal activity flourish.
I said that it's not intrinsically good or bad, but mostly criminals use it, it's not stable or fast enough for regular business use, and the proof of work algorithms, the way it ensures people can't steal your money, wastes a ton of electricity.

Part of the difficulty of explaining Bitcoin and cryptocurrency is that most people don't even really understand regular currency, how its value is determined and tracked, its relationship with institutions, etc, including me

The open ledger is perhaps one of the few redeeming qualities of bitcoin.

You can determine ownership through careful tracing, but it takes a lot of effort if the person is "washing" them.

I put a rainfall showerhead and removed the limiter in mine and it feels like I'm just getting drenched by a storm. It's amazing.
