This is seriously the perfect, opportune time to announce Diablo 4. The hype will make everyone forget the whole Hong Kong-China debacle.
I think it's the exact opposite; this would be the worst time for them to announce because whether that was their original intent or not, it will be looked at as a deliberate distraction attempt. I think they're 'on rails' to do it though, I can't see a title that big for them changing PR course this quickly.
Maybe! All I knows is that BlizzCon is going to be something.

We'll see if the ire lasts until Blizzcon (it seems to have died down a bit. I haven't seen a new headline in awhile) because there was talk of people holding protests.
I have a feeling any Q&A's are going to pre-screened, if they even happen at all. I'll legit be shocked if they open themselves up to someone pulling a "Is this some kind of late april fool's joke" type situation, only with people asking uncomfortable questsions about censorship on the behalf of a oppressive regime.
Looking back on it, it is probably a tie between Kaiden, Ashley, and Garrus..
Kaiden's just friggin boring and what were they doing with Sentinel in ME1
Ashley has Opinions on Non-Humans
Garrus just wants to shoot anyone he thinks is guilty
Liara and Tali at least let you know quite a lot about asari and quarian culture to lay the groundwork for their development in 3 and 2, respectively.
Garrus is the worst because he can not stay vertical unless he's kitted out with the best armor, best gun, and all his "staying alive" passives are maxed out.
Maybe Kaidan too, but I generally didn't use him except for when I was going for his achievement and that one mission he's got extra dialog on. Also he usually gets left behind on Virmire anyway because it makes more sense (to me) later on.

I dunno, both US political parties getting involved is pretty huge
i think it's died down from the perspective of the mass public
however i think it's worth remembering how long angry gamers can sharpen knives, how long groups like gamergate kept at their business long after it stopped being reported on. it doesn't take many people to make a harassment campaign

one of my hottest takes is "diablo 3 was good even before reaper of souls" though it's far superior now
I was going to skip Outer Worlds, but between the Bombcast gushing about it (describing it as a combination of Fallout and Mass Effect) and the fact that I have Game Pass, I'm probably going to wind up playing it.
I also think the auction house would have been fine to keep around if they had combined it with the new drop system
yeah, people like to point to the AH as the core problem with progression
when in fact it was the fact that the loot system and torment scaling was hotass garbage and the AH actually made advancement much more viable
I think the argument is that the progression is hotass garbage because of the AH, where you pretty much required to buy gear there to make any meaningful progress.

there was always some skepticism that blizzard had been conservative on loot drops and power in order to make players use the auction house, which would then generate income for them
but I don't think that actually holds up, I'm guessing they just hadn't really figured out what to do with players who reached the higher difficulties
and the AH was never actually profitable from what I've pieced together, the cost of supporting it and the payment vendors far outweighed any passive income it brought in

that was a problem with the drop system, not the AH, which the loot drop changes effectively proved

also they nerfed perma disintegrate sorc and unkillable monk because god forbid people actually make interesting builds that could survive torment
jesus early D3 postgame was real bad

Mx. QuillI now prefer "Myr. Quill", actually...{They/Them}Registered Userregular
Demon Hunter needed basically all the abilities that didn't deal damage just to avoid hits at that stage, since one hit and they'd crumple.
I got kind of decent at D3 to where I could get up to Torment... 2 or 3 solo? Which wasn't bad.
Granted now they're up to Torment 15 or 16, which is nuts, but I was happy with my performance then.

I have entirely different issues with D3 now, mostly related to the removal of player agency, but it is infinitely more playable now than it used to be
The typical microtransaction nowadays is lootboxes. Unless they're wanting to try something new (and after the auctionhouse they may be cautious about trying something unique) that'll be what they go with. The real money auction house was too kind, it gave some money back to the players, recent games have shown that players (whales) will throw money into a giant hole for nothing more than the chance of getting a cosmetic item. They've gotta be looking at the success of Overwatch's monetization and thinking about how to translate that to Diablo.

also perma-archon wizard and perma-super-saiyan barb, which were the builds I liked mainly I liked them because they made you immune to crowd control but also they looked awesome.

I think the AH was introduced to solve 2 problems: 1) the insane economy of diablo 2, and 2) the real-world scammers and profiteers making money selling Zod runes and shit
blizzard decided that a laissez-faire solution would solve both problems, not realizing that when you own 100% of the infrastructure you can just prohibit all the shit you want, and when they finally came to that realization it made a much better game
they could have left the AH in, if they wanted, but I don't think it would have seen much use

It's next on my list once I'm done with shadowrun dragonfall.
Yeah the auction house was 100% created to solve the real money black market and associated real life crime problems Diablo 2 had, by simply scooping up all their business and making it be conducted where there was no possibility of fraud or account theft. Because why would you go to a shady third party real money for loot trader when you could do it more conveniently and safely through the officially run 1st party auction system?
Diablo 3 made blowing up skeletons really fun and enjoyable. I judge a lot of games on how good the skeletons are when they blow up.
Oblivion rates highly. Those skellingtons crumple real nicely.
Yes, when I started stomping with my barb and bones went flying and nearby banners fluttered I was sold.
POE has some real satisfying explosions
Honorable mention: Rise Of The Triad had the Firestorm rocket launcher, which when used on regular mooks turned them into skeletons that collapsed with a goofy xylophone sound effect.
I used to love Blizzard but it has been slowly stripped of what made it great, often against the will of its employees, ever since the British gave it back to Activision in 1997.

Yeah I liked the game a lot then
I have to admit that the improved loot system made it a LOT better though
If they spend all their time tightening up Blizzcon, how are they supposed to have time to tighten up the graphics?

Legit stopped playing until this comes out so I don't age my kids out of it. Might get them to all be teenagers I guess.
