Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
MechWarrior 2 and the crashing thereof

I'm trying to install MechWarrior II Titanium Edition. I have a hankering for smacking down some big fuckin' 'Mechs, and Mech3, for whatever reason, isn't doing it for me.
I have WinXP home edition, updated in all high priority ways, or so WindowsUpdate.com tells me. When I try to run the install program, I get an error saying NTVDM.exe (the Virtual DOS, has encountered a problem and needs to close. Checking the Event Viewer, I find that the problem is that:
Windows cannot access the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\userenv.dll for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program Userenv because of this error.
I've already followed the instructions on the Windows Support site (checkdisk, etc.). Is there any way for me to fix this, or will I have to resign myself to not playing programs that rely on NTVDM, or is my hard disk beginning to disintegrate and I should replace it before it goes all melty on me?
