Need help with wifi repeater

deathnote666deathnote666 Registered User regular
I've tried 2 wifi repeaters on 2 different access points but none have worked?

They sync with the access point but have no internet.

The boosters insist on having a DHCP server with a different subnet for connected devices.

I have no way of setting a static IP on the wireless interface of the repeater.

What am I missing?

Access points are engenius brand and repeaters are 3ed party brand, tp-link

Honestly - go buy a mesh solution if you can. I used repeaters and they never worked very well and had a serious speed penalty.

    Thanks for the reply.

My budget is that I have no buget. How trivial the reason doesn't help.

All i need is maybe 10 more feet because people need wifi for their phones... while next to their ethernet computers...

If you have an old router you might be able to repurpose it specifically as a repeater/mesh solution. If you're in the Bay Area I have an old ASUS RT-N56U router that I'd be happy to give you.

Does the engenius AP have WPS? Do the TPLink repeaters? If so and you haven't tried using it, do that and see how you get on.

If that doesn't work, log into the web interface of the TP link... IP for the repeater should be visible in the AP, if not, default is 192.168.1.1/192.168.1.254/192.168.0.254. Default user/pass should be admin/admin.

If that gets you nowhere, have a look here, it might get you some distance toward accessing them.

    The engenius doesn't have wps.

I can get the repeater to connect to the AP but anything connected to the repeater doesn't have internet access.

Without much info but leaning on a stray comment, you can buy a cheap network switch and set it up at one of the Ethernet computers. Then you can either set up another router as a AP/non-DHCP router right at their location.

Your problem is likely that the repeaters aren't in bridge mode or similar. You need to get into them and see how they're configured, because they're handing out their own IPs instead of just extending the network.
