The orange grainy/sandy background image brings to mind the SMT5 trailer. Could we be getting the MC from SMT5? We won't be getting SMT5 until sometime in 2021, so it seems a bit early to include them in Smash. Good marketing move, though.

Urbosa is part of a Spirit battle, yes; the Champions fight has you fight characters representing the four Champions, then Link, and then Zelda. However, Min Min was a Spirit first, so that pattern got broken. Urbosa is possible, regardless of being a Spirit fight.
I'd like another grappler like Incineroar but not shitty like Incineroar

Since the pandemic is making communication with third parties tough, I wonder if we'll get the inevitable Pokemon to pad things out.
They've kept up with adding a new character for each new Fire Emblem, so I would expect them to do the same for Pokemon and give Sword & Shield a representative at some point in this DLC season. On the other hand, Byleth, Corrin, Robin & Lucina were all relatively contemporary to their game releases IIRC, whereas SwSh came out a while ago, and they haven't yet announced the next Pokemon game.
Edit: actually SwSh was just last year's holiday season? Man, it feels like it's been longer. In that case I hope it's Rillaboom, to go with Greninja and Incineroar.
For Pokemon, I think I'd prefer Toxtricity. They could do what they did with Incineroar and lean into the Poison-type more than the Electric-type, like how Incineroar's moves are a lot more Dark-type and Fighting-type than Fire-type.

If it's a pokemon I think Grookeys final evo or Melmetal seem likely since both have new gigantimax formes they could use for final smashes

The thing about toxtricity is that it's not a starter, version mascot, nor is one a prominent anime character. I mean, Sakurai likes taking surprise left turns, but generally I feel like any new pokemon chosen for smash is going to have some notoriety. Marnie/Mary doesn't even use one, and doesn't she have kind of a punk-rock theme?

Back at release, Sakurai noted that XC2 and ARMS characters only missed out because the roster had already been locked down before he was aware of them. The Springman AT, and Mii costumes for Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Rex, and Nia were to make up for that fact... but we got Min Min, so I think a XC2 character has a fairly good shot.
Another is Travis from No More Heroes. Nintendo is funding the third game for the Switch in a way that reminds me a bit of them taking on Bayonetta. Plus it was only recently delayed to next year, so maybe they would have been trying to synergise a bit?

It is really cool though, I'll give you that.

I believe the lighthouse has a reference to it, and the "big mysterious imprint on the hill visible from the grass city" is in the shape of a G-Max Toxtricity, and the one you can obtain in the game is straight-up handed to you as a Toxel. It strikes me as the kind of Pokemon that Game Freak might have planned to push at one point, and given how Sakurai tends to get advance notice on Pokemon, there might have been some collaboration before their plans changed.
Still, I grant that you make good points against it, and the starters are absolutely better-represented in Smash already.

Edit: I never really played Diablo, but I thought Blizzard did a good job of taking a Diablo April Fool's 'update' (the archivist hero class) and turning it into an actual playable character for Heroes of the Storm. It does make me wonder if they ever made a Starcraft April Fool's joke into an actual thing in HotS, since they've done one each for Warcraft (playable two-headed Ogres in WoW->Cho'gall) & Diablo (archivist->Deckard).

Sometimes! Hero and Banjo leaked because Nintendo let the press see the video about a week ahead of time so they could prepare (this is a fairly common practice), and somebody blabbed. But the vast majority of rumor chatter doesn't pan out. (I think Simon was rumored ahead of time, but I think that was an easy guess rather than insider knowledge.)
Fun fact: before the current rumored character, the rumor mill managed to get hot and bothered about Geno yet again.

Speaking of obligatory-never-gonna-happen guesses, has anyone picked Shantae or Shovel Knight in the pool?

Shovel Knight's an assist trophy, so I wouldn't expect him.
Shantae would certainly be fun, especially with the new transformations from Seven Sirens, or the pirate tools from Pirate's Curse. But I'm skeptical that that would happen. Just a gut feeling.
I've never cared about Minecraft, but I can't argue that it's one of the greatest games of all time (in terms of magnitude).
Interesting that Sakurai said they had to support the idea of a "biome" across all existing stages. Sounds like the blocks you mine up will depend on the stage you're on?
