Garfield will be unironically mega popular, come on now.

Will he? I can't remember the last time Garfield has been relevant. The comic strip is still ambling along I guess.
I'm curious how well this game has done. I'm thinking not great so far but I'd love to have some numbers come out. The game just looks cheap very similar to every Nickelodeon game.
Now with Super Smash WB coming out, which looks so much better, this game seems like it's already on it's way to obscurity.
I could be wrong though.
Super Smash WB worries me being Free to Play, but I'm a sucker for Superman, so I'll be giving it a shot either way.

Garfield is an evergreen source of memes, the same as Shrek. Their popularity among the youth is titanic for this reason.

Interesting, you taught me something new. I really wasn't aware that kids nowaday knew who Garfield was.
There's a difference between glomming onto a meme and genuinely wanting to invest in the thing. Reminds me of how everyone went apeshit for Snakes on a Plane and then the movie bombed.
At any rate, I don't know the pricing history of these Nick games, but I was struck by how this one got a price drop almost instantly. So I'm guessing they got overly excited about the initial burst of interest in the concept and printed too many copies.

I'm actually more excited for Shredder, but it's really cool that Garfield is here.

Garfield gets new cartoons and merch every 2-3 years like clockwork. There's both the Chris Pratt movie and a new Nicktoon incoming. It's not the most successful IP ever or anything, but it has a baseline of never ending profitability.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not challenging that. I just doubt that Garfield will cause a sudden burst of renewed interest in this particular game.

This game wasn't ever going to be that big. It's another in a long line of lower budget Nicktoon games. It got a lot of early interest by melee fans wanting a game to come out and show Nintendo how to do it properly.
The devs were taken off guard by that interest and started heavily vesting a lot of videos and such trying to treat it like Smash with the reveal trailers and such. I have a feeling they thought that early interest would translate to big sales so they over produced copies of the game. Then ultimately the sales didn't happen because it's another in a long line of lower budget Nicktoon games that wasn't ever going to be the next Smash.
Some of the DLC might give them a few more sales, but the game is already almost forgotten.
I think the WB games has a much bigger chance to gain a decent sized audience.
The worst part about fake news like this (the article and such are photoshopped) is that I would honestly respect the insanity of a game dev making Garfield not selectable on Mondays.
Tweeter is the photoshopper who didn’t expect their tweet to start getting reported on, tweet includes a fake IGN article describing Garfield as unselectable on Mondays because lore.

One last patch, then Sakurai’s finally free.
...I miss Smash reveals already.

An example meme, just from this announcement.

Good news for this game. Hopefully they update enough to make it competitive with the other two big names.
(And yes, I'm aware that the Tweet contradicted my joke before... was gonna post the Garfield can't read meme if anyone said something).
Here’s hoping it improves the presentation in patches as much as that Power Rangers game.
