Huh. I can’t think of a posh Jason Isaacs character.
Edit: wait, was he in Harry Potter?
I'll take a guess and say you've never seen The Patriot?
oh my god he was so evil just for the sake of it
also yeah malfoy's dad, I think?
Jason Isaacs is so evil in The Patriot that he makes a deal that he must be given land in America because if he indulges in the full capacity of his wickedness he will never be allowed back to England.
He happily proposes and accepts that deal!

I saw Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in a real live theater tonight
y'all, that movie rules so hard, there's so much to love about it
here's the stuff that jumped out at me this time:
River Phoenix as young Indy was great. just like...all over the place with this gangly-ass teenage body, really exaggerated motion all the time, it was so much fun to watch.
literally every single time the john Williams holy grail theme happened, I got chills.
there's a part where Indy steals some horses and rides away and you can just barely hear him cackling the entire time.
this movie's got great attention to detail. when indy goes into the crypt under the library, early in the movie, he gives marcus the grail journal, but takes a paper out of it, without explaining, and then later uses it to make a rubbing of the next macguffin. they didn't have to do that! but I appreciate and respect that they did!
the knight at the end delivers every line perfectly.

Have you seen Death of Stalin Tynic? Isaacs is tremendous in that, but so is everyone.
Criterion Channel October lineup is out, and they’re leaning hard into Halloween.
Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night (!!) and The Devil’s Backbone (!!!!), a bunch of Jacques Tourneur and Mark Robson 40’s B movies like Cat People, a few Byron Haskin flicks like War of the Worlds and Robinson Crusoe on Mars, and a bunch of Herschell Gordon Lewis movies with titles like The Wizard of Gore and The Gore Gore Girls.
They’re also adding a huge collection of Errol Morris, Shirley Clarke, three Gillo Pontecorvo movies including The Battle of Algiers, and maybe the movie I’m most excited to see, Lucrecia Martel’s La Ciénaga. And a bunch of other stuff!
The Lighthouse seems like the only film that could unseat Midsommar as my movie of the year
My top two is currently Midsommar and Bliss
I don’t at all think this will unseat Midsommar (Midsommar and Annihilation are honestly my top two possibly ever, definitely of this decade) but Lighthouse could unseat Bliss for me
Bliss will definitely stay in my tops for a while just for how much of a surprise it was. I anticipated Midsommar and Lighthouse for months before release, Bliss just came out of nowhere

My biggest disappointment of the year so far is Godzilla. Can’t really imagine another film beating that this year, unless Star Wars completely shits the bed.
My top three so far is OUATIH, Woman at War, and Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Top five is rounded out by Midsommar and Her Smell. Still lots of opportunity to shake that up!
gun to my head, my top ten so far this year (in no order because there is a gun to my head and i ain't gonna dig deep) is
the last black man in san francisco
fast color
riot girls
us
detective pikachu
a vigilante
see you yesterday
the amazing johnathan documentary
sword of trust
villains

I need to watch Us again so I can get a better sense of where I’d put it
The only movies I’m at all confident have a chance on the year end list so far are:
ANIMA
High Flying Bird
Midsommar
Peterloo
The Last Black Man in San Francisco
The Souvenir
Peterloo, The Souvenir, and ANIMA are way above the rest right now. I’ve liked a lot of movies this year, but those are the only ones that really blew me away. I’m watching Sword of Trust tonight, which I’m pumped about, and there’s a lot of movies I’m really looking forward to for the rest of the year.

Jason isaacs is really the only reason to see the second harry potter movie
it's frightfully bad otherwise
the only thing Raiders has over it is Marion and a lot more Salla, and that's the only one that comes anywhere near as good
They chose wisely.

But that's a good song
Poor Gene Wilder. I might be getting confused because Hackman retired and hasn't been in a film since 2004.

Yes! Though at the time I don't think I registered it was Isaacs.
I was very distracted by the coat/shrugging off said coat so that's fair
