Watching Fury Road for maybe the six hundredth time
Fuck this movie ruuuules. I love it so much.
Easily one of the most rewatchable films for me, I don't think I've ever felt either 1) tired of it or 2) like it's actually as long as it really is. Runtime just flies by
Recently rewatched the other 3 Mad Max movies and I was surprised how much Fury Roads quotes those with little details (or bigger ones). Like those dudes on the long poles? It's a more extreme version of how a guy gets on the tanker in the first movie.
Also, wooof, does Thunderdome take a turn to Disneyland with the return of Max and the kids to Bartertown, I didn't remember it being so jarring.
Also watched all of the Matrix movies again and hottest of hot takes, 1 really holds up, and then it just gets progressively worse, not just because of story/plot etc. but the fights just get more and more boring.

The fights are the only saving grace for me, the CGI does not hold up though and the story is terrible.

From the moment they start lowering the war party vehicles, with the drummers playing on the doof wagon, I just have this big stupid grin on my face that basically never goes away

I didn't care about the later fights because to me all the impact was gone, in the first movie people punching each other seems to have effects. Starting at least with Neo vs the Smiths in reloaded its just endless punching without anything happening. Also there's a fucking bowling sound effect in there. That's in addition to the cgi.
The first movie actually does a pretty great job of hiding its cgi and there's not quite as much of it. The later two go all out with it.
The dock battle also takes much too long with the squids just aimlessly roving around the dock without doing much.
The family members of some of the victims of the Aurora, CO shooting have written a letter to WB both presenting their concerns over Joker and what impact it may have and asking WB to use its resources, both financial and otherwise, to contribute to gun control reform and to halt any political donations to candidates accepting NRA funds.
This comes the day after an interview with Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix where they said that concerns weren't legitimate because most critics haven't seen the movie "most people can tell right from wrong" and that "it isn't the filmmaker's responsibility to teach the audience morality, or right or wrong" and a few days after Phoenix stormed out of an interview after similar questioning.

So the movie is definitely about how cool the murderer the joker is then

The editing in Fury Road is insane. At least to me, a total dunce what knows nothing about film making. The fact that so much completely wild stuff is happening at such a breakneck pace but you never have trouble keeping track of what's going on is amazing.
The thing that really got me in the interview is how they trot out the "art can be challenging and that is good" thing which is a fair point, but then Phillips compares Joker to Do the Right Thing and man your fuckin sad murder clown movie ain't that

The most basic trick is that the thing to follow is always right in the centre of the frame. This allows it to cut faster while still keeping the viewers eyes on the most important thing.

Being able to keep track of every character and movement in the final battle is fucking amazing.
I also get chills at, "Remember me?!" Every time.
I am in the business of saving lives.

From my haphazard non scientific observations it seems like being a very wealthy weirdo has a deleterious effect on your general cultural awareness
A true story that I will leave all names, timeframes, and identifying information out of
I have seen a famous actor struggle to say/remember the word "overtime" in a line. The actor explained this struggle by saying they didn't understand the line, because they did not know what "overtime" is.
"Gun violence in our society is a critical issue, and we extend our deepest sympathy to all victims and families impacted by these tragedies," reads the statement. Our company has a long history of donating to victims of violence, including Aurora, and in recent weeks, our parent company joined other business leaders to call on policymakers to enact bi-partisan legislation to address this epidemic. At the same time, Warner Bros. believes that one of the functions of storytelling is to provoke difficult conversations around complex issues. Make no mistake: neither the fictional character Joker, nor the film, is an endorsement of real-world violence of any kind. It is not the intention of the film, the filmmakers or the studio to hold this character up as a hero."

Honestly I hate Jim Carrey when he's doing......Jim Carrey-style performances... but this cursed image of Jim Carrey as the Joker popped into my head so I had to share it
(I like him when he tones down the Jim Carreyness like in Eternal Sunshine and Truman Show, etc.)

My nod would go to Chrissy Tiegen's monologue about how she got famous
Theres enough message board chatter on the dark places of the internet to make it enough of a thing for them to send am email out about it
For reference, they do this for lots of holidays and anniversaries of other attacks too
They also did one for one of the early purge sequels years ago
