Ok fair enough. Here's a question: Why does everyone say Amarr is bad, yet BoB & Russians both fly them effectively? I know lasers can't change damagetype, but how much does that really matter outside of very small engagements?
Like, everything in the game (almost) is strong against EM and Thermal, which are the two damagetypes to which lasers are constrained. Also, apparently their ships are unfavorably balanced in a few ways -- enough so so that the devs have promised they intend to buff them in future patches.

Having said that, I'm Amarr and love it -- and they are plenty effective despite their shortfalls. To answer your question: one reason the older corps have a lot of Amarr pilots is because Amarr used to be the most powerful race, and thus older players tend to have characters from that era.

Yeah, yeah, I'll get flak for it -- it's just that sometimes, after a good kill, I'd like to see my ship do a celebratory barrelroll. I can see it would get silly and overused, though.

They aren't bad, they're just not good for a new player. I've got an alt that only flies Amarr ships, and she rocks.

The thing is, Amarr are shitty PvE characters. Not being able to choose damage types makes it really difficult to rat, especially for MerchI and Goonfleet because Angels are EM tanked. Also, their t1 frigates and cruisers kind of suck anyway, since there's no layout with enough mids to make a good tackler, and your guns are cap-dependent making it even harder to juggle your AB/MWD/Disruptor/Tank while still doing what everyone wants to do, shoot.

However, their higher-SP ships are fantastic in PvP. Abaddon/Geddon/Apoc are all pretty great, especially T2 fit, and their T2 ships are excellent. They've got the fastest Interceptors, great Assault Frigs for both PvP and PvE (look up Hay's Malediction kills for proof) and the Zealot, Sacrilege, Pilgrim and Curse for HACs and Recons--all of which are great ships.

It boils down to the fact that Amarr doesn't suck, they just have less all around decent ships, and require more SP and know-how to fly well than even minmatar ships. It's not easy to manage capacitor on any amarr ship, and it's even worse when you consider that Lasers are the most range-dependent weapons in the game, even moreso than most autocannons (I believe, I'd have to check falloff ranges), and Amarr have no good way to dictate range. Minmatar ships make up for the range dependency by being fast and having weapons that take no cap, leaving more leeway to run MWD/AB for longer. Amarr ships are slow and hard on cap. It's just not an easy to get used to.

Pretty much all T2 Amarr ships are awesome (except the assault frigs, but who gives a shit). It's the only race for which both HACs are widely useful and the recons are fucking scary.

It's good for PvE. The Vengeance is decent, it's just not great. Then again, no assault frigs really are except the Gallente ones.

They're only pushed over Amarr by the HACs (Vagabond/Muninn are both fantastic). Amarr have the best recons for small gang, and the Zealot/Sac are pretty damn decent HACs.

Speaking of recons, I'm actually considering training both caldari cruiser V and minmatar cruiser V prior to getting t2 missiles. Is this really retarded? The recons aren't there for damage from what I can tell, and I really want rapiers & rooks :P

Then again I'm going to totally hold off on training up covops/cloaking past 1 until CCP announces what the fuck is going on with probing out cloakers.

edit: Reconsidering, maybe I should just go eagle for antiinterceptor work and screw minmatar cruiser. Argh, choices.

Eagles are awesome for anything except solo work. With spike, I can hit things at max range no prob. With antimatter, in my sniping getup, I still have an optimal of around 55k, with 14k falloff.

    Amarr stuff

[The following is LAZORS only, the arbi, pilgrim, and and curse are all awesome]

A better way to say it is that their Battleships have a role in medium sized gang combat, especialy in low-sec/empire where you wont hit bubbles. None of their other T1 ships have a real strong presense that cant be done better by some other races ships.

They have good tech 2 ships, especialy for medium sized gang combat in low-sec/empire, with the Zealot standing out and able to do some very interesting things[Fagazealot = 3-4km/s + 300dps + full cap stability on the guns and MWD] for solo work.

There are four ships that can be decent for solo-pvp, the Harbinger, the Abaddon, and the Zealot, and the Crusader. None other really can, and they arent especialy good at it compared to their Gallente and Minmatar counterparts[Abaddon>Tempest likly, but only really because its such a beast for tanking] in similar fits.

Amarran ships really are highly skillpoint intensive and niche.

    As for the AF comments:

The Vengeance blows[terrible damage, terrible bonuses, slow as hell and heavy] and the Retribution is only ok[no, it doesnt tank like anything, since tanking one is useless]

    As for the Recon Comments:

Minnie Recons are better against smaller targets than the Amarran Recons, which are best when you need to kill a big active tank.

The Command ships are O.K. The Absolution is basically worse than a sliepnir in every way[range, speed, damage, tank] except that it can kinda tackle, and if it sacrifices a lot of damage, it can tank as well as a sliepnir. The Damnation is only saved because if you are fitting 3 gang mods, it doesnt really matter what else you have on the ship except the tank.

Seriously, the only better empire systems to pirate in, that I know of, than a 0.4->0.5 gateway system are fairly specific lowsec systems (empire carrier jump staging areas) and 0.1 systems that enter a 0.0 pipe like the Skarkon->L4X gate.

With my account coming to a close, I went out and ganked someone at random just because I never have before.

I warped in on a lone frigate and let loose, blowing the guy to peices in just a few seconds. "Hey, that's easy," I thought. Then I checked my victim's character sheet and realized he was only two days old. I started feeling bad, so I transferred five million isk to his account.

I'm usually hanging around Hosh if you want to gank someone else. I could do with the 5mill :(

What's your character's name in game?

Wow, that response totally dodged the only thing that that the average Joe Player cares about -- BoB's own admission that it has very close ties with the devs, and can contact them at a moment's notice. The silence is a blatant admission of guilt, if you ask me.

Especially when they then lash out at a large percentage of their playerbase (the goons and allies) by suggesting that their communication was intentional sabotage. This bit is especially nice:
In this particular case, instead of receiving notification of a possible problem and sufficient time to examine and address it, we faced a coordinated and hostile attack executed on our forums, Digg, Wikipedia, Slashdot, and other outlets at the beginning of a three-day weekend.

Hmm, I guess they forgot about the many posts that were made, by goons and by non-goons who just happen to keep up with Kug's site, that were then deleted and the players banned. Yep, it's a damn shame nobody bothered to try to alert you guys to misconduct before resorting to extreme measures. OH WAIT! They did, and you smothered them as long as you could. Nice try, though, dunderheads.

Hey, by the way -- probably best not to boast about your excellent communication and customer service, and then also boast about researching possible legal action against a large portion of your players, with whom an even larger portion are sympathetic. For raising in-game issues with your product. Which you tried to ignore as long as possible.

    God, what dicks.

I sent along an email to IA asking that they follow up with another investigation, this time focusing on Dianabolic's admission and even boasting about their close ties with the dev team. Unless we assume that he/she is lying, this one is in the bag -- the main thing CCP needs to do is establish whether it's against their policy or not, and what they intend to do about it.

I suggest y'all email IA too, if you're concerned. Let's show them we can use the appropriate channels -- if they react, then good; if not, then we have more proof that they're fuckwads. It's a win-win.
