The only issue with the cut pokemon is Nintendo literally charged people for a service that would store their pokemon to assist in moving them from generation to generation.

They killed it two generations later.
I mean, it did its job for the time it was around? If Home is free then I don't think it matters much. If Home ends up being its own subscription then it'll rub.
The game is gonna sell gangbusters no matter what happens. all those parents with kids and switches and switch lites
Millions and millions and millions. So many kids getting their first pokemon game, with no clue about cut monsters or bad animations or any of that crap.
But so many Pokemon making sounds that don't resemble the anime at all (saying their English name) and instead make a cry that sounds like crunched metal.

i used bank a ton, it more than fulfilled the job.
and home will do the same, it doesn't mean those pokemon won't show up on a future game (while other pokemon included now will get cut).
They never said the cut ones are never coming back
If anything Bank/Home are even more important now, as the place where you keep the monsters you can't move to the game du jour.
I really hope theres some basic battle functionality in home, just so we can still use the other Pokemons for fighting even if we can't explore with em

I have to assume Home will at least have an Amie-like so you can pet your mons on the go, because if it doesn't that's a massive missed opportunity.

Also lets not pretend the games have been flawless. sun and moon didnt even bother finishing the island challenge and post game sas almost non-existent .

I do love Pokemon and I am going to get SWSH and almost certainly enjoy it.
That all said, I must admit I am more lenient with the Pokemon series than I perhaps should be. I think many people are.
I mean the Zelda series took flack for years for being "stale" and I daresay there was more going on between each release than there has been with the Pokemon series (not counting Breath of the Wild).
I guess I just have a real soft spot for Pokemon.

I Mean, I 100% got my moneys worth out of Bank for the duration of the service, and I think it is good that they are replacing it with something like Home which sounds more modern & necessary (smartphones! trading via the app! etc.), and I am excited for Sword/Shield and I think not having every Pokemon was an inevitability. But part of the original Bank pitch was that you'll be able to trade your Pokemon into any future Pokemon game, and they objectively didn't hold up their end of the bargain on that one.

I think most people gave Pokemon a Nintendo pass not knowing they arent really a Nintendo developed series.
Nintendo will eventually fix flaws even if it takes awhile and to be fair they had been making changes to the mechanics and such.
But after Sun and Moon were so lackluster Im just not willing to do that anymore.

Please explain this for somebody who hasn't been playing Pokemon for a few gens. Is subscribing to Nintendo's online service going to be necessary to swap Pokemon, or is this some separate service you'll need?

You'll need to have a Nintendo online service sub to fight and trade online.
Whether there will be a GTS equivalent app coming separately with Home or something and whether it will require a sub too, we don't really know at the moment.
RE: The GTS, from what it sounds like Pokemon Home will have trade functionality, that sort of trade might have migrated to Pokemon Home, where it will arguably be much easier to handle.
This is my biggest disappointment about the new game. There was a brief moment where I felt a glimmer of hope, and then it was dashed upon the rocks. I would have bought all of the popcorn at the grocery store to watch smogon's reaction if that what if were true.
Also some of my favorites are gone, but I was expecting dex cuts eventually. I can live with some of my favorites leaving so long as some of my hated ones leave too.
RIP Starmie. I expected the flagship pokemon from gym leaders to survive the culling.

Haha, I walked into that one.
I think bug is taking the beating harder, especially since they lost Signal Beam
Do we know how the gigantawotsit floofy eevee thing works? One per game, one per account? The single Mew with Let’s Go almost caused family war when we found out that was all we were getting.
This is the first bit about this whole thing that legitimately makes me sad. Come on, you had a perfect opening, with all the trimming going on! Set the thing on fucking fire and dump the ashes!
I have a theory (which could easily be proven or disproven by looking at the leaks, but I don't care): it seems like we haven't seen the early-route bird Pokemon yet..but maybe we have, in a way, because Corviknight is actually the final evolution of that Pokemon.

Dexit didn't bother me but I am starting to become a little nervous about other aspects of the game, such as it apparently being a 15 hour cakewalk that has little to no post game content. Game Freak can try to blame a threadbare game on "it's the first time it's on consoles" but I find that pretty ridiculous for the largest media franchise in the world. If anyone can summon the resources to make it work, obviously they can.
It'd be like turning in an 80 minute Star Wars movie without editing out the green screen or wires on the stunt actors because they didn't have the time or resources for more. And this is after they said they had to cut the TIE Fighters because they needed more time to make everything else good.
Like if you need to cut the dex for competitive reasons or because it's too intensive to animate or add all of them, okay that's fine. But then you need to deliver on the rest of it.
I take most complaints about difficulty with a huge grain of salt because these games have always been staggeringly easy and it just feels like people notice it more as they get older
I'm definitely willing to believe that post-game would be on the light side though, specifically because this is the first Pokemon to have a Ranked Mode in its battle system. I can see them coming to view that as more of the endgame, and wanting to support that being the reason for a lot of changes like those we saw in the video the other week.

While I agree that the games have been easy, I definitely think there is a pretty stark divide between the "exp share is equipped to one pokemon" vs "exp share affects all pokemon" eras. Keeping exp share on generally trivialized the game but at least you could turn it off and therefore acted as a difficulty slider in the game. If we're entering an "exp share is always on for all pokemon" era and they don't change the difficulty accordingly, then it's just being forced to take the easy path.
I don't mind the new difficulty modes in a lot of RPGs where it's just "give me a cakewalk I'm just here for the story" but I don't really care about the Pokemon story so give me a little challenge if I want it.

Oooh, ow, uff.
Yeah, okay this one stings a little.

I dont care about story difficulty but the lack of endgame content has been an issue for years now and they seem to make it worse each time. The post game in Sun and moon was the sun and moon map but you walk through a portal and theres in not much different actually

Apparently the replacement is whatever system they used in Let’s Go.
*rubs forehead*
They are really trying to make older people quit huh?
Because they seem to be cutting some arbitrary corners.
That or they were scared to require Nintendo online sub for the GTS, so they just did what they did with Let's Go to save money
It feels like they did cut a lot of corners though
