Its annoying that I can't preorder the downloadable version. I'm sure that it's done to help brick and mortar sales because business but… if I'm to consider having both copies… I don't want two cases.

Nintendo has been getting better about pre-purchase downloads for their big days I think? They probably won't announce anything about it until sooner before it comes out, and yeah you miss out on some of the fun bonuses which is disappointing.

Ah, I'm definitely looking a gift horse in the mouth here. I'm trying to breed up a halfway decent Mareanie. Like 60-70 eggs in so far so not too deep, still no 6 IV candidate. 3 eggs in and a shiny with terrible IVs pops out. And then just now 60 something eggs in another shiny Mareanie arrives, this time 5/6 IVs so much better there but it's got Limber instead of Regenerator. All I want is a 5 iv, shiny one with regenerator or a 6 IV one at this point, that's not too much

Can you bottlecap the "terrible" Shiny?

If you don't have any bottlecaps, you can get them pretty reliably from Poke Pelago's shard-hunting island (30 shards = 1 silver bottlecap) but it'll take some time, or if you don't need a ton I can help.

Do bottle caps actually change the iv itself or just the stat growth? I wonder if the bottle capped iv would revert back whenever I transfer them to sword and shield

The one thing I really want to see now is starter evos. Though odds are I go Scorbunny and keep up my streak of fire starters... Oshawott is the only time I didnt take fire off the bat... and partly because the previous gen was the glorious Empoleon.

I went through the effort a while ago to analyze my starter picks over the years and it came out pretty even as I recall. I thought I was strongly in the water-type category but when I wrote it all out, it turns out that I was within +/- 1 on each type.

Oh, huh. Thinking about it in terms of first-playthroughs I might actually be 100% for grass. At least since Gen 4 I am; I replayed Emerald and Leafgreen so many times it'd be impossible to remember who I took first.

Chespin did end up getting replaced as soon as I got Skiddo and Decidueye got replaced with Lurantis, but yeah.

    Fire > Fire (didn't actually play but would have 100%) > Grass/fire (I legit don't remember) > Water > Grass > Grass > Grass > Water

Woah, that's way more grass than I expected

I usually pick based on looks over stay type. I usually go with the reptiles. So:

    1: Charmander
    2: Totodile
    3: Treecko
4: Chimchar (he's cooler than Turtwig oops)
    5: Snivy
    6: Froakie
7: Litten (still shiny hunting for my white one)

And I want to like Sobble but another damn frog Pokemon is a bit much

  • LucascraftLucascraft Registered User regular
I don't think Sobble is gonna turn into a frog. A chameleon or something similar is probably more likely.

Dude. That scene in Detective Pikachu where those giant Torterra came up out of the ground and were basically like living landmasses, that was awesome. Gave me a whole new respect for Torterra.

    hmmmmm.
grass fire fire water grass fire grass.

i really don't like water starters in general, but sobble is a strong contender this time around.
might be the same as in gen 4, when the other two options weren't strongly appealing to me.

So in that video they did about the starters they said Grookeys stick made grass grow then they refused to elaborate if the evolutions kept it so I'm betting its gonna be key to whatever the line is. Im hoping a special attacker

I envision Grooky's twig growing to a stick, growing to a giant log for his final form.

Scorbunny is a bit harder (for me) to predict where the evolution chain is going to go. Scorbunny appears to be following an athletic theme, as does much of this generation. I'd say with the tape over his nose he looks like a rugby player. So maybe each evolution gets more and more rugby-ish? I dunno? Maybe by phase 3 he's wearing a helmet and pads, only they're a part of his natural fur/body.

Sobble is pretty obviously gonna be cute baby lizard, teen lizard, and terrifying monster lizard.

It's soccer/football, not rugby. Scorbunny is soccer + scorch + bunny.

The emphasis on his big ol rabbit feet seems like an indication it's futbol related rather than Rugby, but we don't really know. Tbh Scorbunny seems like he'll end up like the Torchic line, where his final evo will probably be a skinny, tall upright rabbit

Or atleast I hope, I don't want some chubby bunny

They're heavily emphasizing Grookey's stick, plus its name likely comes from groove, so I think it'll end up as some kind of drum-playing monkey.

The one leak that's proven real said this about the starters:
Scorbunny "becomes Raboot", then it's final evolution ends up looking "like a fighter. It looks humanoid". Despite this, and having Fighting moves, it stays pure Fire.

"Sobble becomes Sizzile and then Intelleon, a chameleon with a spy theme."

Grookey ends as a Gorilla that "beats a wood drum to attack."

    My first playthrough starters:

    Charizard
    Typhlosion
    Swampert
    Infernape
    Emboar
    Greninja
    Decidueye

  • TerrendosTerrendos Decorative Monocle Registered User regular
    Yeah let's see

    Charizard - Typhlosion - Blaziken - Infernape - Samurott - Chesnaught - Decidueye

Though to be fair those wouldn't be my first picks with hindsight.

Think I'll be doing grass this time. Not that it really matters, as soon as it evolves itll get replaced with something else that needs to evolve

  • WotanAnubisWotanAnubis Registered User regular
    Squirtle - Cyndaquil - Torchic - Turtwig - Oshawott - Chespin - Rowlett

From this I think I can safely conclude I'm not particularly wedded to a single Starter Type and just pick whichever one I like best. Which is going to be Sobble, by the way.

Excuse me Pokemon. I'm trying to use only new pokes this time around. Don't add an awesome looking Charizard to temp me into using another Charizard on my team this time.
