I gotta say, I'm really glad they're not showing off too much of the game before its release this time. Playing X & Y and Sun & Moon for the first time and seeing a new Pokemon for the first time in-game was amazing and I'm glad I'll get to experience that way more this time around. I only followed the official info releases for the past two gens and ignored most of the leaks, but I still knew about like 90% of the new Pokemon going in.
This'll also be the first time I don't know my final team before starting the game, which is also pretty exciting. I have some Pokemon I'm leaning towards using from the ones we know so far, but at this point I'm only 100% set on using Grookey (and probably Rolycoly and Ponyta, but still).
Going in mostly blind is a magical experience that I wholly recommend. I've only seen some of the prerelease things due to untagged Twitter posts or whatever, and I've seen the Galarian forms since I don't really consider forms to be new Pokemon. Then again, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to accurately describe any of the actually new Pokemon beyond the starters, so that's good! I get to be mostly surprised even by the ones I've seen.
The absolute best gen to go into blind was Black/White. Having only new Pokemon until the post-game was such a joy.
Echo the sentiment of going in blind. I did that for X/Y and when my Frogadier evolved it was an amazing reveal. (Unfortunately, I also didn't realise Fletchling evolved into a Fire/Flying type, or I would have used it.)
I really wish they'd bring back the Pokedex's Habitat List from Black/White 2 though, as that allows you to do a "blind" play without having to worry about missing out on any pokemon. [For those who haven't played it, you could select routes and they'd show a screen with all of the pokemon available in the route. If you hadn't run into a certain one yet, it wouldn't show but there'd be a spot for it so you'd know there was still something new to catch.]
I wonder if with the way switch online cloud saves work if you could just give your account info to someone you trust that has lets go, get them to make a save and upload it then delete your account from their system. Might be an easy way to get the fluffy eevee and fat pikachu

Pokemon games can't use cloud saves, as an anti-cheating measure.
Also for those of y'all with living dexes and are too lazy to properly grind out a Melmetal, the Pokemon Go exclusive pokemon. Now's a really good time to get one. There's a double candy event going on, so you can get 8 candies per Meltan, 14 if you use a pinap berry and double the double. You can easily get one on 2 Let's Go boxes right now. 160 per. You need 400 candies to evolve it, normally it's just 4 or 7 per meltan catch so get on it if you don't have one yet

I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
Pretty sure this event has ended, but Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee had an event via the Pokemon Pass app where you could get a shiny version of the Pikachu/Eevee (opposite your own), and there's a good chance that transferring that to Sword Shield will let you get both Gigantamax Forms.
Releasing Gigantamax forms in this way is ridiculous and I hope they're banned in competitive / not viable because my eternal hope is for a genuinely even playing field for all players.
Speeaaaaaaking of events, you can get a Shiny Lunala and Shiny Solgaleo from Gamestop starting October 21 until they run out of codes (probably!) Sun Moon and UltraSun UltraMoon! I'll try to get extra codes for anyone who can't grab any (PM me if you know in advance that you can't, it's helpful to know that I need extra when at the shop)
Looking at the exclusives I dont think they will be a problem in competitive. They are still baby pokemon and money drop ability meowth and they are rare that they are competitive.

Hopefully! Not knowing is the big problem here. I can imagine Gigachu's guaranteed double-para would be super good, though.
I can't believe these games are just a month away!!!

Let me save any North American residents a trip: these shinies aren't from scratch-off cards, but a poster with a QR code for the Pokémon Pass app.
This QR code:
Only the UK and Spain are conducting this giveaway via cards with serial codes.
I'm not enthused about this approach, especially the requirement to enable some marketing settings on my Global Link account just to sign into the app, so I'm going without. Thought I'd be able to use the code when I got home and sorted out my login; that didn't work out, but I might as well share it and let others decide if they want to deal with it.
Whatever happened to Online distributions for this sort of thing?

Oh, if they're using Pokemon Pass I am pretty sure you need location services turned on and to be at the store in order to redeem your code, my app won't even let me open up a camera to scan the QR code from home...that's wild. When they debuted Pokemon pass earlier this summer I had hoped it meant we'd get more frequent / more easily accessible code distributions and this seems to be the opposite of that.
That app is actually dummy easy to get around. I installed it and was about to go down to GameStop. Figured might as well poke around so I know what I'm doing. I clicked on the shiny solgaleo/lunala event and it pulled up the camera and told me to take a picture of the qr code.
But there's a little circle with a question mark down in the left hand corner so I clicked on that and there's a "skip this step" option. Just clicked on that and badabing babadook it spit out 3 codes to use in game.
I'm at work, a decent ways away from a GameStop right now. I don't think I'd be close enough for the location tagging to work. I guess there's a pretty far range, I just made a new account for more codes and it says "you've arrived" when I open the camera part

Hopefully that works for more people because its certainly not working for me!!!
Exactly three weeks to go! (assuming the digital version unlocks at midnight, which it should)
That also means that review copies will go out soon and inevitably someone is gonna get an early copy and there'll be some huge datamine. Hopefully I'll be able to avoid all the leaks.
Only thing I know for sure is I'm putting a Togepi on my team if they're in the game (I'm assuming they are, I think I've seen them in something) and if they're easy enough to get. I was disappointed in Gen 2 that, after all the love I gave my Togepi Egg, Togetic ended up being kinda lame. I had been expecting another Gyarados situation. Never given it another try despite liking Togekiss a lot, and I think this is finally going to be my chance.

quietly hoping for a Galarian Togekiss that's Fairy/Steel, has markings that mimics the classic Spitfire look and has an ability that boosts bomb-type moves (learns Seed Bomb, Magnet Bomb, etc)

Togekiss can do some mean things with paralysis and flinches.
So, both my daughter and I will be wanting to play this, but, I must ask: Do we know if there will be any way to trade between 2 accounts on the same Switch? I fear I already know the answer but I thought I'd check anyways.
Probably not directly, since you'd have to both be on at the same time
But I assume there will be a GTS or something similar where you can put a pokemon up for trade. Just make your request very specific and you should be able to get eachother

Good idea! It's too bad Home won't be out right away, but yeah, I'm sure there will be workarounds.
Wild, I booted up Moon to get the shiny solgaleo and there were the three starters, fully evolved, with their hidden ability waiting for me. I guess I never claimed them or something
Although I have to wonder - with HMs no longer being a thing, what's the point of manually deleting moves via a separate menu?
Some Pokemon evolve only if they know a certain move. Maybe delete the move so they don't evolve? Maybe Sword/Shield will introduce a Pokemon with branching evos depending on learned moves?

There's a gimmick build for Ambipom that relies on short-circuiting the logic for Last Resort (a powerful attack that fails if you haven't used every other known move at least once) by learning Fake Out and deleting the other two moves.

My favorite Pokemon of all time is Gardevoir, which of course is Psychic/Fairy and is the most perfect Pokemon ever created.
In Sun/Moon I used Alolan Ninetails for my fairy type for most of the game.
