Thankfully you can change natures with mints, and bottlecaps to max out your IVs are decently plentiful in SwSh. They've added so many nice things to make getting competitive 'Mons up to snuff so much easier. With the addition of Ability Patches, you can even give your Pokemon their Hidden Ability. I think that now the only thing that can't be changed is whether your Pokemon is male or female. That doesn't matter for Legendaries, but it could still be an issue if you want to breed up a shiny Vespiquen or Salazzle.
In VGC they often have formats that allow the "lower" legendaries like the Kanto birds and the Tapus but don't allow the "cover" legendaries like Mewtwo and Xerneas
And when they do allow the "cover" legendaries, I believe they've always restricted it to two maximum
I've considered starting over on Moon, but I was wondering about it's old Preorder bonus (i think that's what it was?), which was a gift Munchlax. If I start the game over, would I still be able to get that? I think it was just given by a trainer in game, but I don't fully recall. Also, would it be worth it at all to just get UltraMoon over the original? I wasn't super pleased with moon overall, but part of me does feel like getting at least one of any version they put out is a good idea these days. (I'm currently on the hunt for a copy of Platinum, but i'd much rather try and trade extra retro stuff I have for it at the moment).
Also i guess a similar question about Black/White. I have i think Black 2, but is going back for either of the originals worth it much at all?

I'm perhaps not the most even person to answer this, because I thought both B2W2 and USUM were complete and utter wastes of time, but I wouldn't recommend getting the other releases from those gens.
I'm still of the opinion that SuMo are better than USUM.

The Munchlax required connecting to the internet by Jan 11, 2017:
Obviously you could trade your Munchlax to a different game or put it in the Bank if you so desired, though I think in any case you'll lose access to the Pulverizing Pancake Z-crystal that came with it. Then again, it's an obsolete gen and you can't transfer or use Z-crystals in SS, so... probably not a big deal.

If trading between any Gen 7 games are you able to trade those crystals? I wasn't a big fan of Z moves, nor am I big fan of the Dynamax stuff (don't currently own a Gen 8 game).
Between games like with 2 ds yeah you can trade whatever is equipped. Items cant go into the bank though.
I just finished post game in shield. Now to restart the arduous process of breeding and training. I got rid of my 3ds games a while back and dont have anything i bred before. I didnt think i was going to get a switch so i didnt try to save them, but disgaea and monster hunter are coming so i snagged one when i saw one for sale at regular price.
I did one raid dungeon before bed and got a suicune as the first legendary so that was cool. Also caught a sceptile but it only lets you keep 1. Best part is that there werent any fucking max raid shields to fight through, so it was pretty easy. Hopefully its like that all the time and not just the tutorial.
Trying not to spoil myself on anything in regards to this- tomorrow is Friday and we're planning a treat for my niece, who's been playing the game with me, and she's been looking forward to playing with this for a month. We're ordering in food (more than likely pizza or hamburgers or tacos) and spending the evening chasing pokemon through the Crown Tundra.
Though I will ask, as more of a way to keep the anti-frustration feature down: are the adventures to catch a legendary one-and-done, as in you can only attempt them once and that's it, or can you go back again and again if you get knocked out or anything? I just want to know so I can approach these without any worries (we'll be saving before each opportunity, naturally!).
From what I understand, after the battle you can "catch" the pokemon. Then at the end, you choose one pokemon to "keep"
It seems like you can encounter the same legendary again, as long as you haven't chosen "keep" on it before
There's a post on reddit saying you won't see if a mon is shiny during the fight, only after you "catch" it. So catch em all :P
But don't keep legendaries if you want to shiny hunt them later
Well, that's what I needed to know. Last thing I wanted was a grumpy niece who missed out on a 'mon because we whiffed on a battle.
Thanks!
I can has cheezburger, yes?

Legendary acquiring info below.
It looks like I totally CAN get the legendary birds before the end and then actually use them as my party for this DLC!
Thank goodness! This actually makes me pretty excited to start playing tonight.
Finally burned a Master Ball in this gen. Heads up: the poster Legendary is lv 80 and hits like a truck. I fainted it once, then in the rematch it took out 5 of my team (all level 89-92) before I decided to just end it.

I gotta say the internet had me really thinking the birds were going to much worse to catch than they were.
Breezed on through them and now can use them for the rest of the expansion, woo!
Yeah nothing has been too crazy to catch. I've caught all the regis, galar birds, sword dogs, and calyrex. I think I caught calyrex in a masterball but I have like 7 more due to the hacked pokemon in wondertrade.
I've caught quite a few legos in the adventures too. Zygarde is basically impossible though. It always gives my team crap to use or I'm playing with potatoes who trade their strong pokemon for a lanturn or something.

So, Day 2 of Pokemon: Crown Tundra, and my niece is already the proud owner of a Suicune and a Registeel, as well as a Stonjourner that we're trading over to my game in exchange for another Shield exclusive- not to mention a lot of other Pokemon that we're catching to clear Pokedex entries with.
Which of the legendaries are on both games- I think the Galar birds and the Regis are? Suicune showed up in Sword so I think that makes the Johto beasts exclusive to Sword?
Version exclusives in Dynamax Adventure don't seem to matter as long as you play online. Dialga, Groudon and Xerneas are supposed to be Sword exclusives according yo serebii, but I've ran into them on Shield
In the story part, I don't think there are version exclusives, but you have to choose one of two pokemon at two different points
The new regis, Regidraco or Regielekki (sp?). And the steed for Galyrex, either the ice horse or the ghost horse
Yeah nothing has been too crazy to catch. I've caught all the regis, galar birds, sword dogs, and calyrex.
Caught a Beldum yet? I swear those things have a negative value for their capture rate.
it's the perfect match, nigh uncatchable pokemon (the beldum line) at a hailing/blizzard place that kills them if you get them down to 1hp.
I was having similar problems with Articuno. I only fought it once outside of hail. Buuuut I lucked into Rayquaza (who has Air Lock) in the Adventure so I leveled it up a bit and finally got there. This is also how I eventually caught the damned Beldum.

Alright, I didn't really notice during the bird arc because I wanted all the birds.
But having every part of the DLC story be controlled by RNG definitely feels a bit bad. Weird that there's like barely any actual battles only catching. It's one thing when I want to catch a pokey. But throwing pokeballs at pokemon I don't care about just to advance isn't super compelling content!
So I'm kinda 50/50 on this expansion right now. I like the place and the poogles they added. Exploration feels better. But each storyline being gated by catches? Hmm. Not so great.
Max raid adventures are a lot more fun and satisfying then regular max raids.
Being forced to think more strategically, far easier to get a game going and most importantly guaranteed catch rates so legends can be in goofy balls. Finally a use for all my premier balls.
Between adventures I joined a battle against a gmax gengar, eventually beat it, threw an ultra ball, three shakes and it ran away. Nope. Never again.
