I saw that one of that guy's video years ago about ESD, surprised he's still kicking.

Either he's doing a really dedicated bit or he's the luckiest dude alive to not have gotten himself killed since.

    The first one.
He's a professor of electrical engineering. He knows exactly what he's doing and he's shocked himself thousands of times so he knows what it'll feel like and he's not too afraid anymore.

There have been a couple of truly dangerous moments in his videos when a shock has made him drop something or almost touch something deadly but only a couple. He's like a snake handler, he knows how to keep the dangerous part away from himself.

He's doing a really great job of making his videos fun enough for folks to watch and learn something he's passionate about teaching.

God, those videos are giving me flashbacks to the coworker who decided to solder a 20 amp fuse to a live circuit board, while just holding the leads in place with their bare hands.

Or the time someone couldn't find the fuse puller and just used a crescent wrench instead.

Or the time my boss tried to solder a wire directly to the lead of a car battery.

I worked with a lot of complete dumbasses, basically

Why are broadcast cameras so expensive (at least when fully kitted out)? Short answer - because the requirements they need to meet are massive.

lenses that can let in that much light while being that long would be tremendously expensive even with no zoom at all. adding an almost comical zoom ratio bringing that thing in for a quarter million is honestly pretty cheap.

Yikes. I've long disliked Matpat's videos but stuff like "Is Mario Bowser's grandfather???" or whatever the fuck were mostly harmless, if very stupid. Accusing a ton of staff and contestants of breaking the law is both gross and dangerous.

    - Fixed a bug where the Moon was upside down.

Saved by a combination of well insulated floormats, work boots, and the fuse immediately exploding when they barely had one finger on it. I was not in the equipment shack at the time, but the story we were told is that they powered the equipment off to desolder the old fuse, then, after inserting the new one through the holes they decided to reapply power "to make sure the fuse worked" which ???? Note that this is a single layer PCB with no through-the-hole conductors, so at this point the fuse isn't even in the damn circuit, not really.

So they flip the power back on, notice that, of course, this particular module still has a fault light and inexplicably conclude that they need to manually finagle the leads to "make sure the fuse is getting power before I solder it in" (direct quote btw). Reach in to grab the leads and are immediately zapped when they push them into contact with the pad, fuse explodes, they jump back with (thankfully) just a burn on their fingertip. Had to report to medical for an EKG scan, fill out a shit ton of paperwork, got yelled at a bunch, and then had to give training on proper electrical safety procedures to every department on base.

really the worst part of the matpat jeopardy! thing is that the man has long and openly been driven by his understanding of the youtube algorithm, and will find absolutely any way he can to make a video about whatever is currently popular or in the news, just to get his videos to come up in whatever random searches people might be doing

and the only reason jeopardy! has been in the news lately is because alex trebek is dying of cancer

so now when people search for an update on a beloved TV host's battle with a terminal illness, they'll be greeted with a video ignorantly claiming his entire career is a fraudulent farce

I'd prove you wrong, but I'm still working on my epic video essay takedown of Batman v. Superman. It's currently 283 hours long and I've just gotten to the bit where Luthor sneaks into Congress and plants a bottle of peach tea, which I argue can be taken as an allegory for urine.
