If you want to watch contrapoints videos, go ahead, I really don't care what you do with your time! You can have your faves, but don't keep your blinders on and ignore the context like these criticisms have come out of nowhere
I could not possibly have strong opinions on a hour and 47 min long video.
There is/was a video of someone taking apart ancient aliens showing how it's basically half truths and other idioms that is 2 hours long. I only know this as back in WoD for Wow I was working on my fishing skill and doing some cooking so I just let youtube roll. after sometime I was alt tabbed to see what it was
I have given it a lot of thought and so far as the end of your life goes head cutting off machine isnt terrible, better than most ilnesses but worse than any sudden unanticipated catastrophe i.e. huge explosion, pistol assassin, meteor impact etc.
Then again I am not religious I understand many religious people would appreciate the liminal anticipatory period of organised formal execution or uh natural death I guess
Yes I have also been disturbed by the unsettled and...reasonably unsettlable..."does your head still work" question re: decapitation, in my opinion ideally the guillotine would have a huge heavy weight that mashes your cranium rather than chops it off, in a darkly amusing turn I believe notions of "decency" would preclude such a humanitarian measure

If it isn't a joke, it's the fucking lamest stunt illusion I've ever seen, it's seriously just a fucking static camera jump cut hidden behind an explosion graphic.
If it is a joke, it's Criss Angel making fun of himself? Making fun of stunt illusions? Which he does almost exclusively?
somebody tell me if this is a joke
edit:THEY DIDN'T EVEN OBSCURE THE JUMP CUT PROPERLY. If you go frame by frame you can see the cut in the "continuous camera". You can SEE IT.

I seem to recall a quote-unquote "scientist" of some kind who tried to get prisoners who were about to be guillotined to promise to blink their eyes or something if they still could afterwards.
The phrase "cancel culture" as it exists is just fuckin' gaslighting, an attempt to weaponize your fanbase to attack people who you offended. It's such a willful misread of the power dynamics at play. If you have to have your moderation team post up a public reminder not to harass the people you put in your videos, you are the one with the guillotine.
If cancel culture worked the way people describe it, Nick Robinson wouldn't still have a successful career on Youtube after his credible sexual assault accusations. ProJared wouldn't be selling a shirt that says "CANCELLED". And ContraPoints wouldn't be capable of making a two hour fucking video whining about the fact that she offended some people.
Sorry that someone made a tweet that got a thousand retweets saying fuck you for offending them. I hope your million+ view youtube videos and your 9955 patreons survive these trying times.
Has anyone been canceled, anyone at all? Besides Cosby who I am pretty sure doesnt count? Or Epstein who is definitely canceled but not like for any good reasob
The concept of canceling can basically only happen as a result of someone with more power choosing to 'cancel' someone with less power. To use a basic twitter example, someone with 50000 followers makign a bold announcement, true or untrue, about someone with 50.
If you can hit people in their job or in their income then that will find success. See: advertisers dropping websites or tv shows, or people getting fired from their job. So like, Breitbart is still out there doing their thing but they've lost a lot of revenue. And Nick still gets high views but I bet it pays less than a steady job at Polygon.

People can be pretty strongly impacted by the eye of sauron turning on them. I don't really agree with Peter Coffin on "cancel culture", because criticism of it seems to quickly morph into deflecting all criticism, but he said he basically couldn't work for a couple years because employers would Google him and not want to deal with him. Now of course he's fine, but that's still a hell of a punishment for his supposed crime. For more information you can watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbUkino-a8k
To me that's an indictment of gossip sites not people on Twitter going TOO FAR, though.

Being guillotined during the French Revolution is like getting your head cut off by a head cutting off machine following a sham trial
But did you know!
The verb used to be "gullantined" in English in the 1800s.
I've got lots of useless vocabulary facts in my brain - here's a cool video about the English language, specifically Middle English vs. Old English, and why they're so dang different.
Man I definitely never even considered looking into it but I had absolutely comfortably assumed Nick Robinson was fucking toast
I had YouTube recommend one of his videos to me last week, despite the fact that I hadn’t watched anything by him since all his behavior came to light.

yeah, he did a pretty successful Tetris mini-documentary, and got invited to IO Interactive for some Hitman PR thing, among other stuff
accidentally watched a bit of his Tetris thing before I realized who it was and shut it off

Here it is!
this got reuploaded because of copyright claims (weirdly not from any of the movies being discussed) with added wiggle-vision to get around them
don't know if it ever got posted the first time
a dissection of the assertion that "you couldn't make blazing saddles today!"
Well, you couldn't make Blazing Saddles today. It's already been made. At best it'd be a remake. At worst it'd be ~intellectual property theft~
...
I'm being informed that I have a problem taking things too literally.
this is very good
Lucky them!!

you know, assuming you're not rendered insensate by the pain

Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.

"they're tryin' to cancel me!"
I think there's truth to this specific statement, but the way canceling generally seems to be deployed is to deflect any and all criticism.

I feel that this second tweet addresses that.
