Prometheus is not nearly as bad as reputation suggests!
it's an overall well-made movie (aside from the score) that is making some extremely goddamn stupid assertions about humanity, religion, and especially science
like what? to me its assertions are philosophically sound. the search for a creator (and by extension of the metaphor, grander meaning) is worthwhile even if the answers are not the ones you expect
pretty sure i've done my dash going over this on this forum though
Prometheus was written as Alien Engineers, a script by Jon Spaihts which you can read in it's entirety online. It is a much better movie, IMO!
Lindelof was brought in later to deliberately obfuscate and make the plot more mysterious, feel Lost-like. Which I feel was a bad n' dumb thing to do, but hey.
I missed out on Lost, and made it through most of S1 of The Leftovers before I decided the overwhelmingly bleak narrative was more than I wanted to deal with on a Sunday night.
Leftovers gets considerably less bleak in season 2, once they've covered everything from the novel it's based on and begin branching out into original narrative. Season 1 is fine as long as you can handle the bleakness, but seasons 2 and 3 are where it truly becomes a well-rounded and excellent show.

wow, someone hasn't read ultimate wolverine vs hulk, I guess
doesnt wolverine fight a magic panda in that one
My immediate response to this was to imagine that the "magic" part was mere supposition on Wolverine's part, and it just has a scene of him brutalizing a regular panda. And now I'm laughing quietly to myself about it.
Good times.

I think the partner and I’s response to loving Watchmen is to start Leftovers
I think the partner and I’s response to loving Watchmen is to start Leftovers
everyone that liked this show should do this
my preface is that the Watchmen-type shit doesn't really start kicking in until season 2, coincidentally when Regina King joins the cast

I eat like 20+ eggs a week now, golden ticket style.
"A new take on the epic fantasy genre... Darkly comic, relatable characters... twisted storyline."
"Readers who prefer tension and romance, Maledictions: The Offering, delivers... As serious YA fiction, I’ll give it five stars out of five. As a novel? Four and a half." - Liz Ellor My new novel: Maledictions: The Offering. Now in Paperback!

I...too have only recently started eating 20 eggs per week.
You two eating twenty eggs a week has given me the ability to see your future. I'm typing this message on the forum in 2019 and I'm also watching you both clutch your chests during a big grabber. I'm also listening to a doctor tell you both to stop eating 20 eggs a week.
Oh, I think I love this show even more now that I know the Lube Man scene was an actual stunt and not cgi trickery.
Wait what
Regina King:
“It was wild. It was wild just to see the guy do it. I was like, ‘Yo, that's bananas!’” King enthused. “And it was cold as shit that day. So he's out there in that polyurethane, whatever it was that he had on, and he did that, and that was amazing. … They built that little drain so that he can slide in it. But yes, that was an actual stunt.”

Just finished this on Boxing Day. After a week+ of "okay, just one episode a day (excepting the Christmas Duo)", I watched episode 7 and just thought "fuck it, KEEP GOING, I GOTTA SEE IT ALL" and watched everything with a big absolute grin on my face the whole time.
What a goddamn show. What an emotional ride.
Regina King is the Queen of "FUCK!". Her use of that particular profanity is masterful and should be studied by linguists for decades to come.
Different show, but "Rami Malek" translates pretty well to "Archer King."
Although technically Rami just means a launcher in general, not necessarily specifically of arrows. So you could kinda also translate it as "Chuck." Or, I suppose, "Tosser."
I'm kind of surprised by all the positive reactions in this thread! I liked a lot of this show, but the last episode seemed very bad to me, especially after episode 8 was so charming and well-executed. Every thread of the story fizzled, rushing to resolve for the sake of resolution rather than anything meaningful.
I'd still recommend it on the strength of some of the individual scenes and episodes, though, I think. Ep 8 is almost a standalone short story.
Leftovers is probably the best television show I've ever seen, so maybe my expectations were too high.

Did y'all specifically enjoy the last ep?
For me the last episode was the weakest, and makes the show a bit harder to recommend blindly to people. I still overall really enjoyed watching it, it was some of the best TV I've seen this year. But the ending will keep the show from being an 'All Timer' for me.
Veidt's knockout felt like it belonged in the different (lesser) show. Didn't love how the episode handled Trieu, Blake, Looking Glass, or the 7K (apart from Keene, I think that was good). Ambivalent on the Dr. I did mostly like Angela's scenes and quite enjoyed her scene with Will.
I binged this over the past few days. Guys, I’m so fucking proud of myself for calling
the clones with Veidt being Manhattan’s creations that he mentioned at the end of the comic
during episode 3.
I’m reading through all y’all’s posts and it’s really entertaining to see how spot on most of your theorizing turned out to be!
Quick question: did we ever find out in the show who
Lube Man
was? Or was that revealed elsewhere? Seems like a really odd thread to introduce, let alone leave dangling completely by season’s end. I mean, I’m totally assuming it was

I still don't know right now if I could say either is better (Watchmen or Leftovers) but I do know I've thought about The Leftovers frequently over the last two years and I hope Watchmen has that kind of memorable longevity where seeing and reacting to the finale still feels like it just happened yesterday
I loooooved everything up to episode 7 but felt that 8 and 9 weren't up to the same insanely high standards.
Mirror Guy and Hooded Justice eps were some of my favorite episodes of anything ever.
episode 8
I just couldn't buy Angela falling in love with doctor manhattan. Especially after seeing her relationship with Cal that was super sweet and believable. He seemed super annoying in the bar encounter- in TV form his signature speaking style is infuriating.
My read on Angela is a super pragmatic person who has no time for bullshit, and her being charmed by Dr Manhattan didn't feel believable to me.
episode 9
Felt like this episode betrayed the whole 'real people, not comic book characters' premise of the books. Everyone is monologuing, everyone is conveniently giving their opponent enough time to solve the problem.
I did love the reveal that Ozymandias created the game warden, and his refusal of his dying request Perfect.
