i just realized that because these cards are all mostly in story order this means there is no card depicting the actual confrontation between heliod and elspeth and what the fuck how do you fuck up the story that badly

being a one drop enchantment creature is potentially very useful however as a result of the legendary harpy that lets you exile an enchantment from your gy at the end of the turn to make a zombie, that harpy is super above rate if you get even one activation in the first two turns it's up
getting a good density of enchantment creatures to support that thing helps a lot, and potentially allows Mono-B Devo to have an enchantment theme to shit out zombos

It's in the background of Elspeth's alternate art card.

Aldo, Hateful Eidolon is Yet Another Card people are yelling at for being not-white, at the same time they're praising the synergy of turning Deadweight into a cantripping kill spell

The first three arcs of DBZ seemed relatively planned compared to like
Literally everything else in the series
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

A solid five cards should have been devoted to her destroying him this is bullshit.
This might sound like Im joking but I'm not. Fuck heliod he is the worst give me the catharsis.
Big villains don't get to die anymore, presumably because you might want to reuse them. Emrakul seals herself in the moon and is inevitably going to get out whenever they want to bring back Eldrazi, Nicol Bolas is in the Prison Realm with Ugin as his jailor but will get out if they ever want to reuse him, and Heliod survives because they need some threat for Theros 3: Tokyo Drift.
This seems to be the recent trend, at least, much like how a while back they were big into having blocks that (re)introduced a plane and then spent the last set destroying it. (RIP Alara, Mirrodin, Tarkir, etc.)
Maybe they looked back at how when they finally killed of Yawgmoth the story was kind of aimless for a while? I dunno. In this specific case they're probably playing it safe since their actual story presentation for THB is minimal.

What you think the over/under on Bolas coming back is? 3 years maybe? 2?
Longer, probably. They're going to do some shorter more self-contained stories for a bit (Eldraine, Theros, probably Ikoria and Zendikar 3), then the next Big Threat is probably going to be New Phyrexia (there's even foreshadowing in this set! Ashiok likes them!).
I figure that after New New Phyrexia (which might end up being a huge story in itself, like the return to the Eldrazi and Bolas stories) they'll probably have another cooldown period and then either try to establish a new threat or bring back whatever old threat is the most popular.

Man maybe it's the period I started playing in but we need MORE Phyrexians. Phyrexians all the god damn time. It's just not Magic unless there's the threat of becoming a horrifying murder monster that betrays everything you've ever loved.
I think the Phyrexians were something that helped Magic stand apart from a lot of generic fantasy for me. The whole "assimilating horrors" thing is done a lot in sci fi but not as much in fantasy, especially the whole modification with machines and oil part of it.
What does "planned in advance" have to do with Dragonball Z? Toriyama hasn't planned past next week in his life!
In DBZ, there are these very concrete points where the current threat has ended and the next threat is about to begin. The Saiyan Saga, the Frieza Saga, the Cell Saga, the Buu Saga, etc.
That's what the current approach to storytelling in M:TG feels like. The Eldrazi Saga, the Bolas Saga, the New Phyrexia Saga, etc. If you look at how they structured the Bolas Saga in particular, you can see how they knew where they wanted to end up and built their schedule backward from that point.
What you think the over/under on Bolas coming back is? 3 years maybe? 2?
Roadmap for the future of M:tG's story:
New Phyrexia (3 years)
The Bizarro Gatewatch (2 years)
Memnarch, Konda-sama, Szadek, Oona, and Xenagos resurrection and team-up (3 years)
The Sliver Deity (2 years)
Planum, the Living Plane (3 years)
The Space: The Convergence multiverse (3 years)
Richard Garfield (5 years)
The Five Dominarias ft. Rath and Mercadia (4 years)
Urza's headless body (3 years)
Blugthak, who you don't know yet but you will (2 years)
Bolas returns with an army of Compleated Eldrazi Eternals (4 years)
After that, Hasbro is purchased by Disney, and Magic: The Gathering is cancelled so as to not cannibalize sales of the Frozen trading card game.
The comprehensive rules changes make a joke about gold tokens having 79 electrons and I'm mildly peeved because it's protons that define element, not electrons.
People complained about the lore being hidden behind a paywall, and now it isn't.
Not saying paid novels are better or worse than free, brief summaries on the website. Just making an observation.
Part of me feels like the handling of Theros' story is a somewhat panicked somewhat unplanned response to the disastrous reception of the War of the Spark books.
Not the Eldraine book, though. That one was pretty well received.

Madcap Skills got a glo-up. Even more "turn sideways", even more blowout potential

So we have the summary of the story, but not the actual story.
That's. I mean. I guess it's something. But.
Still can't help but wonder what they're doing over there in the story department.
