I'm so glad that the Gods actually all seem relatively strong and useful in a devotion deck built around them. My favourite is Thassa currently for sure though, and not just because Blue

If anyone wants a Theros code for arena that hasn’t already redeemed one shoot me a PM, I have one extra.

There's prerelease codes you can get that give you 6 boosters but you can only redeem them once per account.

A friend who doesn't play MTGA gave me their code card, but when I went to punch it in (alongside my own) one said it was already claimed. Weird.

There are a lot of weird limits on arena. I get why they exist but it sucks for anyone who gets them legit.

For example theres a 5 per account limit on fnm codes and I dont think this is per set. I've been locked out for months. I got shut off after my 2nd or so throne one, sent a ticket, and they told me to get fucked. Make a new acct or give to friends was what the rep told me to do

So theres a very good chance any theros ones I win are useless from the get go but I hope not

Now I wish there was a way to link dci to arena account so that one could just get rewards deposited via event reporter or something but maybe I'm crazy

You're talking to someone who pays for 6 every set (3 for me, 3 for my wife). Believe me, I'd love to convert that to more Arena equity than I can. But that's why I give so many away; I also collect codes from players at the events who don't use Arena or are also entered in multiples.

No, it resolves because they're about to cast their Agent of Treachery to steal it and then flicker the agent with Thassa at the end of every turn to create an absolutely horrible lockdown. Hope you have removal!

...It was not a fun match.

I think my favorite card from this set is Ashiok. Just does sooooo much. Makes bodies. Stalls. Sometimes acts as hard removal. And the ultimate is so hilariously good. So now the conundrum is do I go Dimir or Esper?

I have also had some fun with Azorius control but I need those nightmares.

Dmir control is my next deck plan because I want to use ashiok and I have way more dmir base cards than what I would need for esper.

Any good lists out there right now?

I guess that doesn't surprise me much - a 4-of uncommon in a pretty popular and inexpensive deck. I think I redeemed for 3 of them, for whatever reason I almost never see him pop up in my limited pools.

I'm really itching to play some Magic again, and it's 100% @milski 's fault.

That said, it's been close to 20 years since I really played and I don't have many of my old cards anymore and what I didn't sell off isn't particularly great. So I'm looking to get back in in a way that won't lead to me spending far too much money on cards the way I used to. There are a couple of shops near me that have casual Commander nights and I'm kind of tempted by the idea. I got out before Commander became a thing and never played it, and it seems pretty appealing.

So if I were to get more serious about doing this, any suggestions for something that would be fun to play but not overly expensive to put together for casual Commander play? Slivers are somewhat intriguing, but I don't know how pricey it would be to make a fun sliver deck. Probably looking for something more along those lines than something that's loaded with ridiculous combos I won't understand for a while since there are probably a disturbing number of new mechanics for me to get used to.

For cheapness, you can't really beat Arena. Far from perfect, but building an okayish collection without spending a lot is doable. My funds have been tighter recently, but I can still manage the occasional draft and T1-T2 deck from playing maybe 10 days a month. I suggest making your first deck aggro so the games go quick and involve less decisions as you learn the cards.

For Commander, unfortunately Slivers can be a pricey route since a few of the heaviest hitters haven't been (or can't be) reprinted. The easiest way in is probably one of the Commander pre-con decks or really linear mono-color deck like Omnath. As you play more, you can see what you like and build towards that or brew away.

The YouTube channel Commander's Quarters has some great starter decks that are still competitive. They have $25 and $50 options, and they are usually very upgradeable.

Pai Gow Magic is too strong!

Arena is relatively cheap; while it'a a bit front loaded in terms of costs, as long as you're actively playing you can keep up with most meta decks by just buying the prerelease bundles and season pass each set, and even if you spend nothing you can still do alright though less flexibly.

As far as Commander goes, The Commander's Quarters is a really good place for casual budget lists with some suggested upgrades. The decks they build are generally casual and fun

Well I can't seem to climb higher than 1-2 in Traditional THB draft on Arena but I can still 3-0 a paper event.

Decided to lean into my recent flood of flood on Arena and only ran 16 lands. Ran into color issues twice (once for each, weirdly) but never had trouble hitting 3; actually scried 2 lands to the bottom on multiple occasions and even dumped lands into the bin with Gravebreaker Lamia if I already had my escape Auras online.

Good lord what has happened to card values over the last 20 years?!

First off, thanks to everyone who mentioned Commander's Quarters - looks super cool, and like exactly what I need right now.

So I started looking at Commander's Quarters deck lists a bit, and then lists of things like "Most Hated cards in Commander right now." And, uh. Uh. @milski do you remember when I was talking about how my favorite old deck was a land destruction deck? After looking through it now, there are a fair number of cards in it that have some value - Lotus Petals, 4th Ed and older Birds of Paradise, Sphere of Resistance and a Japanese Strip Mine. But you know what land works really well in an aggressive land destruction deck and also shows up as a most hated card in Commander?

    The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale.

I bought it on a whim for like $20-30 around 23 years ago because it seemed like a good addition to my land destruction deck. And my copy is in high NM condition, I believe. Like it looks better than the majority of the copies on eBay right now.

    So, uh, holy fuckin shit!!

Um, thank you milski for lighting the MtG fire under me the other night, because I never would have checked on this otherwise.

Is there a company/service people would recommend for getting this graded? Because I think this might be worth it.

yeah I've been getting thrown around on Bo3 Theros Arena drafts, except when I made GB aura decks twice in a row. Those got me to the end pretty easily but everything else I try peters out really quickly.

I tilted pretty hard at my last Eldraine draft where I had the nut Trail of Crumbs/food draw and my opponent had walls and Folio. That thing just mills way too fast in limited and he even nailed my artifact removal on the first hit.

@Ketar I suppose that's some sort of payment for the foil Heliod you opened for me :P

As far as getting it graded, I think that Beckett (BGS) is the gold standard. I don't have a lot of experience with high value cards like that (besides getting some friends to confirm a Wheel of Fortune wasn't fake; old cards feel kinda weird), but my understanding is that you'd want to start by taking some high quality photos of both the front and back of the card, put it in a perfect fit and then a regular sleeve, handle it super carefully, and then either take it to a trusted local game store and work with them to get it graded, or go to like Card Kingdom and have them work with you.

Here is what a 9.0 Tabernacle looks like:
