The Day the Music Died – Prelude: Concerning Charlie Horse
This is a phalla.
Brought to you by Locus and AustinP0027
Come all ye friends I'll sit you down
And sing an oleful ditty
'Twas on a day in April month
We started from the city
We planned a day or two at Maars
We stalwart men were chosen
To remove ol' Charlie from Angle Pond
Who fell in when the pond was frozen
-“Concerning Charlie Horse,” by Great Big Sea
Phalla is a variation of the “Mafia” party game, where an uninformed majority (colloquially referred to as “the village”) must root out an informed minority (colloquially referred to as “the mafia”). You can read more about phalla here
The rules for this phalla are below. There is no limit to the number of players who may participate in this game. No outside knowledge is required to play in this game.
If you wish to sign up to play this game, please sign up in a bold color
. Please also include the name of a song that makes you happy. If there are no songs that make you happy, you are exempt from this requirement.
Each day, the players must vote to eliminate another player on the player list by posting the name of the player they wish to kill in bold red
. The player who has the most votes at the end of the day will be eliminated from the game. In the event of a tie vote, one of the players who received the most votes will be eliminated, at random, as will the player who tied the vote.
Votes made in an edited post will not be counted.
Each game day will begin when the hosts announce that the game day has begun.
Each game day will end at 9:00 PM Eastern Time.
Any votes cast or orders received at 9:00 PM or later will not be counted. All votes or orders must be timestamped 8:59 PM or earlier to be counted for that day.

Sample villager role PM:
I fished with my father, so long long ago
We were proud of our trade, and in us it did show
We held our heads high, there were lots of fish then
That was the time when we were proud men
We challenged great storms and sometimes we won
Faced death and disaster, we rose with the sun
We worked and we toiled, we strained arm and brain
We were a proud people, will be be e’er be again?

You are… the Fisherman
! For generations, you and your family caught fish in the Atlantic northwest cod fishery off of the coast of Newfoundland. That was, of course, until the Department of Fisheries and Oceans mismanaged the whole enterprise, causing the collapse of the fishery. They may have taken your livelihood, and your pride, but you’re still a brave Newfoundlander, and you’re not going to let anyone else harm your community.
Win condition: Eliminate all threats to the village.
Each day, you may take one of the following actions:
- Investigate – Choose a role from the list of Dramatis Personae. You will learn the alignment of, but not the player assigned to, that role.
- Question – Target one player. You will learn the role, but not the alignment, of that player.
Please PM the hosts with your desired action each day.
