It's a new day for Giant Bomb. I did not always enjoy his antics, but he was a shot of enthusiasm at a time of great tragedy. Best of luck on his future endeavors.
Black lives matter.

Still waiting on Dan "Man of his Word" Ryckert to eat a hat
WWE is getting into the podcast network biz. They have like 3 already with more on the docket.
If WWE Podcast Producer wasn't a job, WWE wouldn't have been putting up job postings for the job on LinkedIn. Also Kofi Kingston said Dan was replacing their old producer, so it was SOMEBODY'S full time job previously.
Dan always had big swings - he was usually either completely intolerable or the most entertaining person on the site. Replacing him is definitely gonna be tough, especially since he was also the source of some of the site's best video concepts (even if he then sometimes made them impossible to watch).

Wonder who they bring in to replace Dan. I saw some people saying that they'd like to see Natalie Watson (formerly of Waypoint) be the new hire as she recently just announced she was looking for work and is highly recommended by Austin and Patrick (and Danielle and other friends of the site).
But I think GB has done a great job hiring new people/voices from outside the biz and not just shuffling people from gaming site to gaming site (Abby, Jan, Drew technically).
I'm very saddened by the news of Dan "I never have a bad day" Ryckert leaving. He was a shot of pure positivity in a world that is so full of cynicism and meanness.
Last I checked, Pat Baer also looking for work if they decide to go that route.
If you need another anime expert to replace Dan, or someone who is good at improvising and having an on camera presence, Pat Baer wouldn't be the worst choice.
Actually, I think I heard once that Pat had actually applied for the video producer gig that eventually went to Abby.
I really appreciated Dan for what he brought to the site, even if I thought he did some really silly stuff, so this is very disappointing! On the other hand, maybe we'll get some really awesome new people?
I feel the real reason he's leaving is because games are getting to political these days.
All joking aside, I hope he comes back frequently. I may not have always liked his bits/outlooks but he was certainly a positive force.
I remember when that whole debacle of the IGN (?) reviewer who blatantly plagarized other reviewers work came up and Dan was super passionate about how shitty it was because of how lucky people like him were to be in their field.
tbh I'd rather they just bring in someone completely new, or at least try and find someone new. i'm not ben's biggest fan, but jan and abby have both been complete homeruns and as far as I know were totally new to the industry (or at least unknown)

Yep, the one thing I do like when someone leaves the site is the excitement of what a new person will bring to the site.
man that fucking blows Dan is leaving, he was the spearhead on so much good content.
on the plus side, BRING BACK AUSTIN
lol I really doubt it. Now that I think about it, there's a bigger chance for Austin and Dan being in a podcast together first than either of them being on GB. You know, because he's writing that New Day comic book.
Austin seems to be in a happy spot now; he no longer has the headaches of being in charge of Waypoint, gets to continue to work for Vice and get benefits, can focus more on his patreon work and also now has time for ridiculously long games like FF14.
Doesn't Austin not work at Vice anymore? He stopped being EIC of Waypoint when it got disbanded and folded into Vice proper, then he announced he was leaving Vice (but still hosting podcasts) to work on that New Day graphic novel and Friends at the Table.
I don't know if he's getting benefits right now. Maybe if he's taking a salary from FatT like the other people are?
Oh right, and he did mention that he was being compensated fairly for the work he was still doing for Vice, which is several hours of podcasts a week and writing reviews and stuff.
Since I dont want to be spouting nonsense, I'm trying to look up where I think I heard that information, and while doing so I've discovered that Austin's page on Vice still says he's the Editor-in-Chief of Waypoint, which is all kinds of out of date.
My memory was that it was during a conversation about health care or the like, and Austin mentions he was lucky that he was able to negotiate keeping his benefits as he entered a non-editorial role. I can't source this so I could very well be a misunderstanding or complete fabrication on my part.
i'd listen to anything with vinny because he makes everyone so much better, but alex and abby are also great so even with just the 3 of them i assume the beastcast will remain the far superior giant bomb audio content.

You are correct; he's producing The New Day's podcast.
He's going to produce podcasts for The New Day.

IIRC, he is part of the Vice union now which he could not be in his original role.

The podcast is actually where I'll miss him the least. Film and 40s is probably where I'll miss him the most.
