I innocently enter chat and OH MY LAWD I'VE MADE A MISTAKE
What a monster!
Thanks for the Garfield racing, I actually like Garfield! Well, not the movie. But still. Cats!
Everyone says this game is fantastic, and I confess I've not actually played it myself; but that's because I bounced hard off (what I've heard, and seen in LPs, is) the premise, presented with positively Spielberg-ian levels of sentimental manipulation:
That it's better for someone to die remembering not their actual life, full of regrets and disappointments and awkward moments and loose threads, but a cleaned-up, sanitized, dramatized, fictionalized, professionally-crafted version of the life they wish they could have had - rejecting truth and reality in favor of a more pleasing lie.
That it is just fine for people - enough to make a successful business out of it - to want to replace their real pasts, the relationships and experiences they had (or didn't), with "the movie", and for our protagonists to enable them.
I'd hang up a "CHANGE MY MIND" sign, but that's basically the issue, isn't it? :?
I don't actually hate To The Moon, but I had technical difficulties getting it to play again and sort of stopped trying or caring so maybe that's the same as hate?

Resolving to work my backlog more in 2020 and we just finished the Back to the Future trilogy as a family, so naturally my first game of 2020 is the Telltale Back to the Future series. Really solid adventure game, I've already been stumped once or twice on Episode 1. Plus Christopher Lloyd comes back to voice Doc Brown and he crushes.
5 out of 5 Great Scotts.

I would absolutely pay a fortune to go to my death remembering the life I wish I'd lived instead of the one I have. And I guarantee I'm not alone in that sentiment. If this were a real possibility, it would be a *booming* business.

I’d like to also take this moment to initiate a call our for a grand PA Garfield Kart Racing Tourney!
EDIT:
I’m still waking up and made the stupidest error in a while. My gift to Ed is still in my gifts because it hasn’t been accepted yet. I failed to read. As penance I will not big Garfield Kart for myself. This does not impact the racing tourney, that is still very much going to be a thing.

I'm saying, personally, I think it's dishonest as fuck and I hate it and I don't like a narrative that seems to come down on the "no, this is fine" side.

Yep, I'm essentially treating it as Back to the Future: Part IV since that movie will likely never see the light of day.

What is really sad is, like the Ghostbusters game, we won't see future games sequels.

Speaking of the Ghostbusters game, did the rerelease actually change anything of substance aside from CGI Bill Murray's face not playing well with the lighting engine?
I really want to buy that game again and need to be told it's a bad idea.

It's been a while since I played it, but I got the impression it was a kind of palliative care for those not quite ready to accept their death yet. And in some cases the clients can't remember their actual past anymore.
And one of the main characters does become severely uncomfortable with making the changes requested as the game goes on

(Says the guy who bought GTASA four times.)
I currently have it, but on the 360, and I honestly don't know how long my 360 is for this world, since it's still an early system from before the *first* time they fixed the RROD (its been on borrowed time since the Bush administration), and there's not enough games for it that I actually care to play anymore (basically I still want to finish Lost Odyssey - when I get the feeling to play anything else I usually rebuy it on a more permanent system) that I also don't feel like buying a new 360.

The IDW Ghostbusters comics pick up from where the game leaves off, if you're jonesing for more of that era of Ghostbusters. They're pretty good comics, too.
