She was a republic commando. She said that she did most of her work post-endor, dropping in to clear out imperial remnants. But then it got more political, peacekeeper type stuff, so she left.

I still don't think Gina Carano is a very good actress but she has so much presence that she mostly makes up for it

So she's like the female Jason Momoa?

It took me a few but I remembered Haywire that mess of a movie

That movie is kind of a mess but it’s also got one of my absolute favorite fight scenes in it and some strong Stevie Soda direction so it’s a-ok in my book

Which reminds me that Republic Commando is the one videogame that "survived" into the Disney canon, as both that design and Boss, Fixer, Sev and Scorch had a Clone Wars cameo.
Which is great since that's probably the 4th best game in the series.

    This episode was so good
That AT-ST had some incredibly menacing hollywood monster energy going on there. That whole sequence was great.

So I think I missed some dialogue and I wasn't quite clear on whether Cara was supposed to be an ex-stormtrooper or not. Mando referred to her as a shock trooper at one point, but I couldn't tell if that was a friendly jab or literal.

    Agreed on the
    AT-ST.

Cara was a former rebel drop/shock trooper. He referred to her as either one on two different occasions. She specifically said when the war was over and the Empire was on the run, she was escorting diplomats and she didn't sign up for that

The finale of season 2 of rebels is still really good.
Why would you ever trust someone who says “My name is Maul” with such venom.

There’s only one thing wrong with the Rebels s2 finale, but it’s Star Wars enough to work, I guess.

That episode might be the high point of the series.

I need to watch Rebels. I never gave it much of a chance because I think I was somewhat bitter about Clone Wars getting canceled after the Disney purchase and it looked a lot more tame. Also I had gotten weirdly attached to the absolutely god awful art direction on Clone Wars what with it's weird blockiness so everything on Rebels looked kind of round and soft.

The highs of Clone Wars are much, much higher than the highs of Rebels, but Rebels is more consistent. The animation and directing of Clone Wars is better, and they definitely had a bigger animation budget, there's never really any wow moments in Rebels.

Rebels is still good Star Wars fun though.

I’m not upset they went with Gal Gadot, because I think she acts the shit out of the past, but when they were casting, I really wanted Gina Carano as Wonder Woman just because she’d show up and look so fricking strong.

Clone Wars had an uphill climb to convince me there was actually anything interesting worth pulling from that time period, thanks to the prequels really squandering that chance; it did win me over eventually

I'm baseline more interested in what Rebels is doing from the start, and overall like its tone more

Rebels has a good first episode, then it kinda falls off until the end of season 1. Just putting that out there.

People who complained about that show being kiddified must not have been watching the scene where Ezra force dominates an AT-ST pilot into killing his comrades and then himself.
    That was brutal.

The last season is kinda meh in my opinion. But even then, there have been several moments I've questioned anyone who contends today's cartoons lack violence cause holy shit.

Definitely reminded me of basically this same scenario playing out in the Clone Wars cartoon

Sure if you spend any time thinking about it

    Which the show doesn't really

Rebels is great because (real spoilers)
Aside from the great moments like Maul dying because Obi-wan replayed the scene of Qui-gon getting gutted over and over in his head

And Darth Vader with the one two Dad Joke Combo "Then you will die braver than most" and "Perhaps I was wrong" to Ezra

Is that the series really sells both the hopelessness of the Rebels and why the Empire ultimately fails better than anything else except Rogue One.

Because over and over it shows how the Empire is a huge machine of overwhelming force that the rebels can barely dent.

But also the people in the Empire are fuckin evil and self motivated and as a result they end up fucking over themselves by trying to steal glory. Whereas the Rebels are good, and willing to dive on the grenade to save their allies. The willingness of the Rebels to self-sacrifice and the unwillingness of the Empire to work together is what ultimately wins the Rebels their victories in the show.

    It's really good!

Solo had some good bits, but they were completely undermined by the need to over explain the origin of every last little detail about Han. Aside from the stripes on his pants, thankfully.

The way they had to explain or tie everything back to every word Han or Lando ever said in the original trilogy is honestly super hilarious to me

It doesn't make it good, but it makes it extremely bad in a way I can enjoy

The Han Solo novel trilogy from the 70s or 80s explained why he had stripes on his pants. 11 year old Valhalla in junior high was down for that shit.

But seriously, yeah, that boss fight is the only one in the game I every died to (except for a couple of the totally optional ones). My second time around I smoked her, though, so it was mostly a matter of learning her tells.

maybe my bad memory but doesn't rebels hit a point towards the end where they aren't killing people anymore? like, whole lot of knockouts going on.

but also this cartoon talk reminded me, isn't resistance a thing?
