He was holding onto things in TROS as well. Apparently that wasn't always CGI. And the TROS suit featured fingers that were articulated for the first time (the bit with the comlink was a trick that worked around that particular lack of capability).

honestly given C3PO's personality it seems like he'd hate having a mismatched paintjob and would nag until someone finally fixed it.

C3PO has a miscolored leg in the first 3 movies.

Which makes the red arm an extremely lazy, "LOOK AT ME" type bullshit that of course JJ wanted

C3p0 would love having a mismatched limb, because then he could complain about how nobly he's managing to get along even though his body is falling apart. Like a grandma who's compelled to guilt you all about her knees every time you visit.

A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

He has a mismatched limb in the first three movies! He never mentions it and if people hadn't pointed it out to me I would never have noticed it!

Because of course if you need a replacement limb you are going to try and choose something that doesn't call maximum attention to it if you're Threepio!

I'm reading original marvel comics star wars and man, it is wild. No one had any idea where the story was going so we get Han dealing with an entirely different Jabba the hut, who looked like a muppet with a weird moustache, and going to planets where they talked about Obi-Wan hanging out with vader and anakin at the same. There was so much weird 80s and 70s scifi going on.

Yup. If you thought the stuff set during (or before) the OT is crazy, the post-Endor (and pre-Zahn et al, by about ten years) "crap, NOW what?" stuff is bananas.

It's also Very Obvious when (some) American fans started becoming aware of "Japanimation".

Hey, who decided that the right thing to do to unlock HK-51 in SWTOR was to task players with digging up whole massive areas of the game to find pieces of him

The only real bad part of that quest is that you need characters from both factions since there is a piece on both capital worlds.

So, in TFA, 3PO had a red arm. Which was given a somewhat meaningful backstory in a tie-in comic.

Then TLJ comes along and he either changed the arm back or had it painted.

    They ever explain why?

    No, and that's fine.

Honestly, now that you've mentioned it, I'm a bit surprised that there weren't a bunch of 3P0 lines in TROS talking about how significant the red arm was to him and how he only had it replaced because that terrible Admiral Holdo told him to.

Aren’t Threepio’s arms ornamental at best anyway? Aside from gesturing when playing god did he need them for anything or ever use his hands at all?

Like, if Chewbacca came back with a new metal red arm, that’d be something. But an arm’s like a hubcap or a t-shirt for a protocol droid.

I'd imagine that for a protocol droid, having limbs enables them to communicate non verbal mannerisms as well as just the verbal components. You never know when you may need to communicate something through sign language or interpretive dance to really convey the subtle meaning behind an ambassador's slow-jerk motion.
And, if you're translating a peace treaty between worlds or something, you want as much clarity as possible.

Alternatively, Threepio was built by a slave to help his mom with her tasks. We don't know what Watto had her doing, but it likely limited her time to do the kind of housekeeping you'd imagine would be needed while raising a precocious force god on a desert world. It's safe to assume Threepio was designed to automate many of those tasks. Hard to do sweep sand out of your hovel or prepare the self inflating bread loaves without arms.

The original Jabba the Hutt was just a dude. He appeared in a deleted scene in the first movie. When the rereleased it again the just deleted him out and replaced him with slugboy but had issues because Han was walking so close to him and behind him as well so their solution was to say it was a young jabba and that’s the main reason that scene looks so janky.

Literally the only difference is that sometimes I get the opportunity not to kill people and he wouldn't

But she gets mad when the job is "Hey, go kill that guy" and I do

I'll avoid murder when I can (like with the Ugnaughts, and the Eidolon himself!), but when the job is "go kill that guy " that is what I am going to do, even if she thinks we shouldn't because we might be able to get away with it

Yes but he also kills people not for money

Whereas you also kill people not for money, but it's OK because they're pricks

Having recently gone through the bounty hunter story I would say we are much more like mercenaries after chapter 1. Most of the actual bounty hunting occurs in the great hunt. Also meeting mako post main story kinda made me feel bad. She really wasn’t in a good place. This is irrelevant though because blizz is still the best BH companion.

The problem is that most bounties are going to be posted by real jerks to begin with so you're already filthy even before you've gone after anyone.
