Now I liked playing Arms and still do. First I played a bunch with Ribbon Girl and I was good with her until a certain point where I just started to suck.
So I switched to Lola Pop the fetish [you cannot convince me otherwise of it} I was pretty good with her but I was just rolling with my bad luck in getting her gloves to earn more points to try the minigame for more disappointment
I should try ARMS again. When I first got it, I was in a place where any competitive game drove me to some seriously irrational self-loathing. I’m better now about that. Problem is that my internet sucks now so I really couldn’t take it online.
I love everything about Arms stylistically. The characters, the music, the stages, it's all great and made me real excited for the game.
I didn't have a switch so I just watched streams and that gameplay does not appeal to me at all. At least not enough to pay full price for. I'm hoping they'll put out some switch greatest hits and some point and Arms would probably be one of them.
I would love it if they made a sequel and added more to the combat though.
edit: Like, if a game is mechanically interesting/fun enough, people will play them competitively forever. The fact that people stopped play Arms competitively after like a year says something about it.

TMS is basically "Let's make Persona but about show business, also you have Fire Emblemsonas and both them and the enemies you face are filtered through SMT character designers". Gameplay-wise it'll still kick your butt if you're careless, but it's a lot more generous with stuff like saving and dungeon crawling.
Also I'd forgotten about Itsuki's Michelin Star reviews of vending machine drinks, such a great, dumb touch.
The third party fighters have all either been japanese or have a very strong nintendo association (banjo)
It's important to note though that unless Sakurai has specifically stated a rule about character selection it's not a true rule, as we've seen time and time again when people said "There's no way [X} gets in because {Y}" and then they get in.
the only Persona I've played is 5 but it feels a lot like a lighter version of that
there's no real time management element and it seems like you can come and go from dungeons as you please pretty easily
the skills being learned from weapons and you have to keep crafting new weapons to get new skills is the thing that I'm like, how tired of this am I going to get in 20 hours, but we'll see about that I guess

it's like demon fusion/persona fusion, just a weapon. Considering you can warp out of dungeons at any time and warp points exist in dungeons, it's not that bad.

Insofar as it takes place in The Actual Tokyo, involves a compact team of teenagers or thereabouts who just so happen to all be in the same area at the same time and are the chosen ones to receive the power of the alternate universe into which they regularly sojourn, accompanied by their one and only spirit guide that matches their personality and gives them a range of thematically-appropriate elemental powers, TMS is much more of a Persona game than a Shin Megami Tensei.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.
Speaking of atlus games, you know what I want? Another game in the vein of digital devil saga. New setting and characters, but let me turn into a demon that eats people again.

It is more a persona game, but its difficulty and structure (dungeon->can do some stuff in town but really it's time to->back to dungeon) is more of a DDS/SMT feel.
But yea, I would agree overall.

You say that, but of the modern Persona games isn't P5 the only one to actually be in Tokyo? Can't recall if P3 is supposed to be some subsection of it or another city.
It is extremely melodramatic, but also it's about being a teenager so that kinda checks out? Looks like it's a handful of arcadey games framed by a visual novel. Hard to say if it'll be good or bad, but I found the art and music very moody and appealing, and I... kinda liked the overly dramatic voiceover?
I've been reading the Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess manga adaptation, and wow this childhood friends backstory they gave to Midna and Zelda is extremely gay.

That community is made up of people who have been playing it steadily for three years. 'Ware those waters, for there swim the leviathans
Time needs to slow the hell down.

So more like 2 years after ARMS’s release. It’ll be 3 in June, which isn’t a negligible amount of time.
2-3 million units is still really good for a brand new fighting game, to be fair, and the people who liked it liked it a whoooole lot
I liked it in particular because it was so unafraid to be weird
More than two and a half rounds up to 3

It's extremely anime
I quite like it
Does it feel similar to any game in particular? You know, beyond the two franchises it spawned from.
Let's Play Final Fantasy 'II' (Ch10 - 5/17/10)

Well now that can't be true. SMT designs are actually good.

I'm so fucking glad they re-released it for Switch. The game is goofy as hell but god damn I adore it.
