Link looks adorable. Don't you just want to hug him?
Interesting take for the Japanese box art. Usually the Japanese go more abstract or just display the logo. But there you have an island, a boat, and a weirdo.

So, Link and some stoner in a steamboat. For the cover of a Zelda title. Ouch. And they were doing so well, what with the TP cover art and all. WW was pretty decent in that respect, too.
Cel-shading in general is awesome, and I would love it if they experimented with a few different styles of cel-shading for Zelda. I would KILL for them to remake Majora's Mask, using Cel-shading to turn the world into a fluid, surreal world with extremely heavy shadowing and thick, black outlines.
I am personally of the opinion that there is no 3-D game that cel-shading would hurt.
I'm surprised no one tried to PS the original picture to mimic the coming USA version. Where the only difference between the two is that link has a "Mad" look on his eyes. Ala kirby.

Majora's Mask would be amazing cel-shaded. Especially the mask itself.
As for your last postulate, it's an intriguing idea, and I'm not sure I disagree with it. It's something to think about.

It's not like cute and cuddly is the only style you can create will cell shading. Obviously the tone would have to change, but I have to agree that more could have been done with atmosphere in TP if they had properly designed cell shaded art and visuals. TP had it's moments (and was very thematically different than WW in a way I liked), but I would have loved to see the art for a 'darker' cell shaded Zelda.

I didn't say that it was. Crackdown is cel shaded and isn't cute and cuddly.
I was just saying that both versions of link have their strengths.
I loved how they could give Link such clear expressions too.
I still feel that the art style in The Wind Waker is closer to Ocarina of Time than Twlight Princess' is.
not sure about that, but it's certainly nearer to lttp's.
I think it's more to do with the brighter colours and the character designs, which in OoT are quite cartoonish sometimes. Twlight Princess didn't remind me of Ocarina much really, the texture and tone was quite different.
I also would like to see more cel shaded Zelda with a different art direction just to keep it interesting.
Loved WW's style. Loved TP's style. Don't see why every Zelda discussion evar has to default to "WW looked the best and LttP was the best".
Because WW got dissed a lot for its artstyle when it first came out, while it actually was (and still is) the best looking Zelda game ever. It's just incredibly gorgeous and the GC's best looking game IMO. So we're kinda just evening the score, by saying that WW looks the best once for every time that someone else undeservedly dissed the game's graphics. Which is a lot, so we're not even close to evening the score yet.

This eye for an eye "asshatery today because others were asshats before us" attitude should really go away. Beauty is a subjective thing, my friend, and you can't say someone was wrong for not liking the WW style.
Reminding everyone daily of things we already understand, but adding a hint of bastardism in the delivery for that crunchy, ad hominem taste.
Seriously, if you're a Zelda fan, you love all of the Zelda games. You even refuse to drown the CD-i games like any responsible gamer, and instead ignore their presence entirely.

Or embrace the horribleness. Who was the pair here that had the complimenting avatars of Link and and the King laughing? I thought those were funny.
To this day I use the phrase, "Well excuuuuuuuuse me, Princess!" on my fiance. She used to find it highly annoying and now it's up to tolerable.

I love The Wind Waker style because of its clear clean look that'll look good for years, and I love Twilight Princess' look, because even though it isn't as clear, I like the art direction and level of detail. Although I still think that it is a bit too "muddy."

I'm only talking about the people who dismissed WW beforehand because of its supposed kiddy look. You know, the 50 Cent Bulletproof afficionado crowd. Completely tasteless people like that will never get my respect, plain and simple, and I'm not gonna apologise for it.

The Japanese version had holograms!*
* At least I think that's what they're called.
I believe that's my cue to run and hide.
I would certainly love to see a non sea based WW-esque Zelda, WW was at it's most beautiful in the dungeons
I've yet to defeat Oracle of Seasons, each time I attempt to replay it, I forget the location of the brazier-lighter ;(
Fantastic game, though
And Makar!
Here here.
The art style gave way to some REALLY memorable characters, much more so than TP.

No,
I was just about to make that joke darn you.
I kinda counted that as a dungeon in my head.
This needs to be addressed. Flagship employees were made into regular Capcom employees, and their projects transfered to Capcom.
I knew the employees were retained, but I didn't know projects were transferred. cheers.
Anyway, I'd say this is pretty decent boxart. I like it.

TP Link is awesome because he's a bad ass.

猿も木から落ちる
Its cheap now, to boot.
猿も木から落ちる
Where? It's still $40 at GameStop
It's $29 Canadian at Real Canadian Superstore.
But I doubt that helps you.

I second this. If you like Zelda you'll most probably find enjoyment with this game. Just be patient with it for the first hour.
