Yep, two threads in as many days referencing the same Futurama joke. Get over it!

BRAND NEW TRAILER - CG

New stuff coming out of that Ubiday thing. Frankly it looks incredible.

Astonishingly its a mix of R6 style ground combat, Full Spectrum Warrior style squad stuff and Dune style meta maps with it all being controlled as an RTS.

Oh, and the game can be played apparently using only voice commands. Which is, actually, amazing.

At this stage its a 360 and PS3 title, probably PC too.

We need a thread on this. Its scheduled to be released soon (which in this industry means anytime between now and 2010)

I really like the way Ubisoft is taking all this Tom Clancy Stuff. there was a time where it was shovelware standard like madden, churning out a new tom clancy whatever every year. Now, they seem to be producing some stunning games. GRAW1 and 2 are exceptional, Vegas is amazing and now EndWar and SC5 are taking it in a new direction.

Mad props to Ubi though. They are quite quickly becoming my favorite publisher. Though I didnt expect it. They kinda surprised me when I did a bit of checking and found they were publishing like 10 of my top 20 most anticipated games (including Assassin's Creed to name but one)
The single most exciting and surprising thing to come out of Ubiday earlier this month was news that EndWar is going to use voice command to try and deal with the problems that inevitably crop up when bringing a real-time strategy game to the console.

I had a chance to see the official trailer and talked for quite a bit with one of the developers for the game, but unfortunately the game wasn't actually on hand to see in action.

The most important question, of course, is how will the voice command work because if that's flawed you might as well toss the whole game in the trash.

The developer told me that the voice command will use a series of simple, easy to remember words to let you issue commands on the fly to your units. He called it strategy at the speed of thought. The software the company is using has been thoroughly tested with very few mistakes, I was told, and of course it is still in development.

The team has tested the game with several languages and several accents without running into problems and they hope to ship it in a single SKU, meaning that all of those languages and accents will be packed into one game.

While the biggest news about the game is the voice control, the team is also taking an interesting approach to graphics. They told me they want the game to look more like Madden than Command & Conquer, with a close over the shoulder view. The team said they felt it was very important that the genre be brought into the 3D world much like Knights of the Old Republic and Grand Theft Auto did for their genres.

Finally, the game will have a massive multiplayer persistent online campaign running at all times. The way it was explained to me is that the battles fought online for one side or the other will be constantly tallied and translated into the overall military successes of both sides of the war. This will, in turn, result in real-time shifting of battle lines. The goal, they told me, is to have a single instance, instead of multiple wars running in parallel.

I also asked about the unit types the game would feature. While not all of Tom Clancy's franchises would fit into a World War III game, the developers are trying to make sure the ones that do will make an appearance. So, in other words, you can expect Ghost Recon, but probably not Rainbow Six.

Everything I was told sounded very impressive and I think this game has enormous potential, especially with different franchises they can cherry pick from, but of course, as with all real-time strategy games, it's going to boil down to how it plays, how it feels, whether they strike the right balance, and in this case, whether that voice command actually works.

Joystiq explanation of the controls - 'Nothing like BFME2'

(Yes I know there is another thread, but the OP was crap and I like to make huge game threads)

NOTE: This game is set in the same continuity as Rainbow Six : Vegas and GRAW 1 and 2. Characters from these two games are in this game, either as NPC story related or actual units on the battlefield. Specifically Ubi said the R6:Vegas teams will be elite commanders while GRAW type guys will be the grunts.

This game really has been a long time coming.

I am surprised that there is no game where you play as a military commander, sending orders to people playing GRAW, and giving espionage missions to people playing splinter cell, and so forth. IO guess this is kinda that game.

In the inevitable sequel, will it be called Endwar 2? Because if there was one Endwar, wouldn't it end wars?

Though voice command only? How is that going to be effective?

This game does sound interesting. Imagine how cool it would be to order your agents in to weaken enemy defenses, which plays like splinter cell. Then afterwards, you assault with your forces, which plays like rainbow six vegas. There could even be coop with people playing as different squads or different agents. I'm thinking along the lines of metal gear portable ops, with choosing your teams and assault forces, and choosing where you want to attack.

Surprisingly the devs themselves said they took the most inspiration from Madden.

In that you arent controlling the whole battlefield, you are controlling one tiny area and making 'plays' such as flanking a building.

Any support you call in, air support, bombardment, you only see from that pov. you cant zoom out and see the whole battlefield.

kinda like how in Rome Total War you can snap the camera to the units. what they see, you see.
