Played a little of the Walking Dead game. VR is cool but very disorienting right off. Smacked myself in the head trying to pull the screwdriver out of a zombies head. Really need to be aware.
Two days until I find out if it's just a week until I vanish into The World of Assassination VR, or longer than that (since they already said something was happening on the 20th)
Has anyone here tried the Resident Evil 2 & 3 VR mod? Apparently it works really well with those games at this stage, and getting RE7 to work in VR too isn't too far off, it seems.

It caused me massive massive motion sickness (and I can play Boneworks with no issues). The game takes control of the camera very often (everytime a zombie grabs you). Aside from that it's great, but that issue needs to be solved.
Yeah, that sounds unpleasant. I wonder if it'd be possible for the mod to make it so the game to pull back and show those scenes in 2D, much like Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.

Figuring out where the menu was showing up was another issue I saw one streamer run into with that mod, apparently it always appears in your default 'forward' view no matter where you're facing at the time. Always fun when trying to frantically grab healing items.
Gonna go pick up a Quest 2 today. Anybody willing to throw a referral my way so we can each get the $30?
Edit- with it being tied to Facebook for the time being, maybe that's not something I should be asking for here.
Think my sister got a Quest 2 for her kids, that's prob the more logical route.
@mulletude there is a chart linked in the OP with Quest users and referral codes. Feel free to grab one of the referral codes, put your name next to the person that you took the code from so that we can track and make sure no one person gets their code used too often, and then add your name and your own referral code to the list.

If this is RE2 or RE3, the game pauses when you open the menu doesn’t it?

Ah. The No Man's Sky problem. I'm forgiving of this in games that are modded to work in VR, because there will be certain limitations that are almost impossible to circumvent, but it is annoying as hell if you play while standing - and unless I'm playing a game where I'm in a cockpit or similar, I always play while standing and turn by turning rather than by pressing an analogue stick. For me, the latter strips a VR game of a lot of immersiveness, so any reminder that a game's been designed primarily or exclusively for seated play, even though in-game you're a person walking/running around, tends to take me out of the game.

Yeah I'm with you. I want to love No Man's Sky VR so much, but it just doesn't feel like exploration when I'm not really "allowed" to turn around. Given that exploration is the name of the game, it's a fairly fatal flaw! I've mentioned before that turning around even breaks the trees -- it looks like it uses SpeedTree or something similar, because the way trees "work" is by having the 2D sprite foliage face the camera perspective at all times. So when you turn around in VR and look at a tree, all you see is the wood of the tree with no foliage because the sprites only work correctly from the camera's perspective, which is always the front facing HUD.
Is that issue with the trees still in the game? I've not spent more than a couple of hours playing NMS in VR, but I don't remember noticing anything weird about the trees - after all, you can look around in VR, it's just that the menus that are relevant to playing NMS are always facing towards what the game thinks is forward, without taking into consideration that the player may be standing and turning around. Though it is perfectly well possible that I've simply not played enough of the game in VR, or that I just attributed things to the overall jank, and that I therefore didn't notice that the trees weren't being displayed properly. Perhaps I simply never saw the trees properly and as a result didn't know that those were trees that I was looking at, rather than giant alien twigs...

Yeah it took me several runs in VR to notice what was going on, and I doubt they patched it given that it's a function of the flat-screen game and how they handled the VR implementation by programming it to be entirely front facing (boo).
I was walking around, like "oh hey this is a cool desolate planet -- lots of bombed out trees without leaves" then 10 minutes later "oh man this is a cool wintry planet with lots of evergreen trees and foliage" before going "wait a second this is the same planet", then I turned around and realized what was going on.
When viewing the trees facing the HUD (the "right way" to play) they were thick evergreen trees with foliage, but when viewing the exact same trees facing away from the HUD they were leafless husks of trunk. I played a lot of Oblivion back in the day, so I realized exactly what was going on. It's using the same methodology of "faking" leaves by rendering them as 2D sprites (much less performance intensive) but that illusion works because the 2D sprites follow the camera. When you turn your view, the sprites pivot to you to show you the 2d image in front of you -- but with VR it considers "the camera" as your HUD, not your headset and where you're looking. So the sprites don't pivot with you, and you see the "edge of the paper" instead of the drawing of the leaf. It's exactly like someone drawing a picture of a leaf and showing it to you. If you walk around and just stare at the edge of the paper, you don't see a leaf at all.
I'll definitely have to look out for this at some point soon - it'll probably be the kind of thing that, once I know it's happening, I'll wonder how I was ever able to miss it.

Where's my steam storefront page, IO? Where's my preorder and preload options? Why do this advance announcement thing if you're not going to put that live simultaneously?

They're still under contract with Epic until the 20th. So can't put up a page until then.
Welp Costco had the Quest 2 with a nice case for the price of the Quest minus the case elsewhere, so we snagged one today. Probably just going to do beat saber and like, tetris, with our for now. Maybe at some point I'll connect it to use with my PC, but my understanding is there shouldn't be any issues for these basic games with the unit itself

Eleven Table Tennis, and Walkabout Minigolf are fantastic too.
Other comfortable suggestions are:
Moss
Virtual Virtual Reality (VVR)
Ghost Giant
Shadow Point
I Expect You To Die 1 & 2
A Fisherman’s Tale
VVR and Fisherman’s Tale are great showcases of what’s only possible in VR. VVR reminded me so much of Portal. It was amazing.

Thumper is also really good, and Gadgeteer is a great "Build a Contraption" game.
We're considering picking up a quest 2 so we can do some multiplayer stuff with friends (while also being tied to my pc--I have a vive wireless adapter, but my wife would also like to do things without interrupting me).
Is the deluxe audio strap with battery worth it?
Looks like we can get the headset and the strap+battery for 379 after Target discounts.

Do you have a link? The DAS is a bit of a hack, since it's made for the htc headsets, and I don't remember there being a version with a battery?
The Oculus battery straps had a bit of a QC problem, but if you're willing to bug support if they break, they're good enough
Does anyone have any experience with the prescription lenses for the quests? My glasses are just too big and sort of press into my head a bit. I saw some as cheap as $30 and the ones linked from the oculus store are $80, not sure if there's a quality jump included in the price jump
Wasn't sure if Vacation Simulator was a worthwhile experience, assumed Job was pretty limited in what you get out of it. Remember watching YouTuber's play it with my son and he wants it real bad.
The other 2 games look more up my alley and pretty neat experiences. Maybe I can sway him to these instead

I have prescription lenses in my index and they're great. I went with VROptician but there are options.

Seconding VROptician, have them for my Index as well. Very pleased with them.
The I expect you to die games are fun puzzles and will take you longer to go through, but not really a lot of replay value. The X Simulators are more VR sandboxes to futz around in - less to do for one person but always fun to put new people into and watch them futz around in.

I got a pair of lenses for VR Wave, without any added options they came out to less than $100, but I was quite happy with them overall (putting aside that they won't really be useful for anything besides the Quest 2). But I couldn't give a reason to prefer them over any other supplier.
I just grabbed Hitman from game pass to find that out, so once I actually manage to get it to connect to the hitman service I'll report back. I know with Flight Simulator I was able to run it through steam VR still after loading it from game pass (had to just hit "VR" mode in settings or something), but it was a bit more than my PC could handle.

I meant the oculus elite strap with battery.
They are notorious for breaking. Better off to get a second hand strap and an external battery.
The job/vacation simulator and I Expect You to Die bundles are the same price
Anybody got strong opinions on either one?
I Expect You To Die is a lot of fun, but not really replayable. Job Simulator was one of the first ever VR games, it's a bit gimmicky for me.

Or do I just have to buy them on Steam for that to work.
