More to the point, it misses that not every movie is meant to become An Event. Spotlight isn't a big blockbuster - it was a re-enactment of how the Boston Globe broke the Catholic Church molestation story,which it did well. If someone wanted to better understand how it happened or why the press is important, watching Spotlight would be a good way to answer that. And as such, it will remain in the societal consciousness for that reason.
