1) Katana was specifically the codename for the Japanese Hitachi based Dreamcast design. The 3Dfx powered American design was codenamed Black Belt.
2) Sega had legitimate reasons to be pissed at 3Dfx's disclosure of their work on Black Belt in their IPO. The deal hadn't gone far enough to require 3Dfx to publicly disclose information - they could have kept it under wraps with regulators. There may have been suspicions that the release was to goose stock prices on Sega's reputation, or to try to force their hand - either way, Sega being upset about the release was somewhat justifiable. That said, the decision to tell 3Dfx to fuck off was a massive blunder on the company’s part.

honestly my takeaway from the Dreamcast what happened was that Sega blew up their reputation with the back half of the Genesis lifecycle, and the horrible misread of game trends with the Saturn's dedication to sprites
in that context I don't think the Dreamcast could have ever been successful
It is somehow a relief that Ed Robertson has a little bit of trouble with his vocal parts of one week as someone who's heard that song a thousand times and still choke all over the words.
Tho I will admit One Week is one of those songs I really miss Steve Page.
Jesus one of the things I hate most about MF is... like everything about her design (and VO). I wish that was her normal design/attitude, it's way better. Even the skin in question doesn't look even close to that good and she still has the default god awful MF vo.
