it has now been pointed out to me that by holding the honorary Oscars on a different night, they denied us the chance to get televised speeches from Wes Studi, Geena Davis, and David Lynch
I wanna hear those!!

Wait a minute... I just read Luke Perry wasn't in the "In Memoriam"
He was in one of the most nominated movies of the night!
Who is that neckbeard?
Because:
a. I don't think he realizes how fucking hard it is for a foreign movie to win an oscar for best picture.
b. Parasite is legit the better movie of the two. Regardless if he watched it or not it's "best picture", not "most popular in america picture".

The Academy has the almost-complete gallery list on their website, which includes Luke Perry and Cameron Boyce but not Orson Bean, who died in a car crash this past Friday.
No real official answer on the omissions but guessing it a combination of how long the list is, fitting as many as they could in a live TV show within reasonable timing constraints, and good old-fashioned just didn't think about it.
Its basically the same argument Bong Joon made with the Oscars being a "regional" awards show. The academy is trying to shake that, this shouldn't be an awards show for Hollywood, but for films worldwide, but it does tend to just be films released in the USA only.
The difference being Bong Joon was speaking from experience on how the academy is bad and this guy is screaming about a film made in another country/language not being worth being called a film.
Is this the first time a foreign language film has won best picture?
Yes. Yes it is.

Has an animated film ever been nominated for best picture?

This article is pretty good! As should be expected, there's some nuance to Parasite that gets lost in translation. It's also interesting to know that the subtitles are done in a more interpretive style to ensure the intention of the dialogue carries over, rather than trying to stick to literal idioms and branding that will be lost on Western audiences.

I thought this was satire until I found his Twitter and whooo boy.
There's a lot to unpack there, but it's mostly white hoods in that particular suitcase.
And they didn't.
So he died.

The dude would've been fine with 1917 winning, which is a British film
Which pretty much gives away the whole game
12 separate films won an Oscar (16 if you count the documentaries, live action and animation shorts)
5 multiple-winning films
Neon, Sony, and Disney (combined with 20th Century Fox and Searchlight) are the leading studio/distribution winners with four wins each.

I mean, he says hed be okay if Little Women won and that is almost certainly a lie
Did cut himself off before he finished that so
not that it matters, since it's best picture not best white american live action film a lot of people saw.
Steam
Yes. Yes it is.

BRB checking for Old Boy.
Edit: Dang, it's not on there.

Beauty and the Beast.

That was also before they created the animated picture category and before they expanded the amount of noms for best picture
I could make an argument for a few others but Into the Spiderverse was the perfect movie.

Theoretically, yes, but the category was pretty much explicitly made so they could ignore animated movies as 'less than' other movies.
Lion King didn't get the nod that B&B did.
And they didn't.
So he died.
