I don't understand the problem people had with the time limit. It's not like you have to completely start over or anything. I loved the time limit, especially the change in the town music when the next day rolls around. Everything gets more urgent and the moon gets closer and closer...

Oh man that ominous music on the last day was the best thing in the game.

Just saw this thread and remembered something I did a little while ago:

    http://artpad.art.com/gallery/?jilkc1wi5uk

I know it's not great or anything, but I just unconciously began painting the moon and then went from there.
Funny to now see a thread about the game here.

All I see is a pencil moving around.

I would really like to see the next Zelda concentrate on NPC interaction again. It does really help to bring the game's world alive, and is the thing that I felt Twilight Princess could have benefitted from some more of most.

I remember loving this game and then being completely demoralized at the end by the Goht dungeon on the moon. Did nintendo really expect my 13 year old self to navigate a rolling goron over thin platforms while jumpings chasms and turning cornors by crashing into treasure chests?

This game still gives me fits when I think about it.

The saddest part is right at the end, when the Deku butler finds his dead son under the clock tower. D:
Also it had the best interpretation of the Zora, it made me favour them to the Goron for once.

Did he find his son? I thought he already knew where he was, and was just paying his respects.

Also, yes about the song of healing scenes. In addition to the father/daughter thing in Ikana, you have the Goron hero up in Snowhead. He's infinitely depressed because he thinks that he's failed his people, and suddenly he's up on a stage, with all of his friends standing before him cheering for him. He gasps as tears fall from his eyes, and with his mind put to rest he continues on to the next life.

Then you've got the Zora guitarist guy, more troubled that he won't be ever able to see his children or spend any more time with his girlfriend (wife?). Then he sees her in front of him, offering him her hand to go up on stage and sing one more song before passing on.

These are the kind of scenes that fall into the category "good writing," and the subcategory "fantastic writing."

Just shows that when you go into making something like this with a particular attitude you'll concentrate on producing things like this. Which is probably why we haven't seen moments like these in the last couple of games.

That new Zelda they're working on better freakin' focus on NPCs again. TP kinda had it. I mean, NPCs played much larger roles than usual for a Zelda game. But it still wasn't nearly good enough.

Never played this, thought I could replay it on the bonus disc included with Wind Waker but didnt realise it was just for Ocarina. Despite this, that radio zelda ad really makes me well up for some reason.

There is standard RAM pack and the Booster.

The Booster has a red top on it. This is the one you need.

Just because I'm a nerd: the "standard" pack isn't a RAM pack at all. It's just a jumper pack. IE it just makes the N64 think there is something in that slot. It won't work without it. It has no RAM in it, though.

Yeah, seriously, what the hell? There is no "standard RAM pack" in the N64, there is a jumper that lets the N64 run. Without it, it wouldn't. Something needs to be in that slot, and all the jumper does is let the N64 run as normal. The "Booster" is no such thing, it's the "standard RAM pack", or the "RAM pack", or the "4Mb RAM xpansion Pak". Neither Nintendo nor any third party I'm aware of called their 4Mb RAM expansion pack the "Booster".

The 4Mb RAM Expansion Pak is the official Nintendo release, and is more stable than any of the third party iterations. It does get a little hot, though, and so some third parties released theirs that got rid of the little cover. Made the N64 ugly, but hell, they got the job done. As for which to go for, definitely the official version, which is the one with the red cover.
    Cremia.jpg

    :winky:

There is the Jump Pack (I personally lost mine after upgrading), and then theres the Expansion Pack. I also don't remember it being called the Booster Pack, but does it really matter? In addition, I didn't know 3rd parties made their own versions of the expansion pack. That seems kind of silly.

What do people find so hard about it?

Ocarina was a cinch for me. Harder in the sense that there was more dangerous stuff happening, but leagues easier in the sense that you have time to wander and a clear path laid out before you.

Majora's Mask ... i know my opinion will result in people wanting to lynch me, but I though this game was the most pathetic trainwreck to come out of Nintendo in years. Nothing made sense to me, I always felt like I was simultaneously running out of time and had nowhere to go. I always had to question whether I had time to do anything because the world was always ending soon. It took me 5 attempts to get through the first 3-day cycle becuase I had no fucking clue what I was supposed to do.

I've still never made it into the first dungeon. I just don't have the patience for this game. I head out towards it, get side tracked by something, that consumes one full day, and then I don't have time to get to the dungeon and beat it before the world ends.

You do realize once you learn the warping song (which is impossible to miss) and the song that opens the way to the dungeon you can just save, and use a whole three days to beat the dungeon? There's a warp spot at the entrance to every dungeon.

All copies were gold, however only the first run was holographic (I didn't reserve it..). later copies had a normal flat label.

I think all the carts being gold were a result of 2 things: "oh hell, we might as well make them all gold anyway" and they were probably ramping down N64 cart production, and a good way to save money is to only manufacture one type of cart for a game.

    Absolutely amazing game.

Took me awhile to get into and figure out what to do and it was really frustrating especially without guides. Me and my girlfriend have played through all the zeldas except for the new one together and this one was the hardest with out a doubt.

Once you start figuring things out the game gets really intense.

One of my most favorite games ever made, hands down.

For some reason, the beginning of each day impressed me the most. You know, the...

    Dawn of the
    FINAL DAY

    ... stuff.

I think it was the combination of soundeffects, the sense of something ominous happening and time running out. In a sense it was more impressive to me than the Moon's grin becoming bigger and bigger.

Besides, it made a single little scene during the ending all the sweeter. And the entire ending was pretty sweet to begin with anyway.

This game also had some of the best and most intense battles of all the 3D Zeldas.
The Grim Reaper miniboss of the fourth dungeon is still the hardest thing I've ever encountered in a Zelda game, and one of the few instances where you really had to learn to use Zelda's combat system properly. Also, the fight with the Stalfos king where you had to burn out the curtains? Awesome.

The 3D Zelda combat system was really at its peak in this game, and since then has just been diluted and oversimplified imo.

    Great game.

Too bad as a kid I was too dumb to figure out the song of time could be used to slow time... But I actually managed to complete it without it. But man, I remember doing each dungeon at least 3-4 times, memorizing stuff so I could do it faster... And people actually complained theres not enough time with the song? Crazy shit.

And my favourite sidequest had to be the music box house in the desert.
