So, if I've got Sleeping Dogs, Yakuza 0, and Yakuza Kiwami, in what order should I play those so as to not disappoint myself with one of them? Basically I'm wondering how similar they are and if there's a best order so that you don't get the dissonant thing of, for example, trying to play Assassin's Creed 2 and then Assassin's Creed, where the original is obviously inferior through the passage of time, or like the original Thief which is just disappointing if you've played even a handful of modern immersive sims because of the quality of life improvements over the years. That kind of thing.

Sleeping dogs is both very different in tone and gameplay. Whatever you do, don't play it between the Yakuza games.

I like the idea of Spaceport Janitor, but it's an odd duck to be sure.

You're not the hero, you're a janitor...at a spaceport. Your hopes to become a hero don't turn out so well. So it's a combo of doing your jerb and figuring out the town to fulfill the criteria to undo the badness.

I just did the most ridiculously anime thing in Slay the Spire, which means this post is dedicated to torturing @Karoz

Let me set the scene: I'm up against the final boss. Staring down an attack that is about to kill me, no iffs and or buts, I'm at 5 hp, to boot. The situation is grave! One misplay will see me cast down, decased, shredded apart by the heart's Beat of Death.

    However, i have a plan.

First, I Prostrate my self. Evaluate things. THEN... i Blaspheme, ascending to Divinity, and channeling the Sands of Time itself into the heart. It still beats, but slowly, badly wounded, its vital fluids almost spent. But i'm out of attack cards in my hand. surely this the end for our heroine?

    BEHOLD! My Secret Technique! Omniscience!

at which point i used being a divine, omniscient being to Wallop the heart.

    That's what you get, Heart.

Ideas hate it when you anthropomorphize them

Sleeping Dogs is GREAT, but it's definitely more "western" in gameplay and tone. Yakuza is super Japanese in both gameplay and tone, so bear that in mind as you play them. I bounced off Yakuza a bit but will probably dig again at some point. I've done Sleeping Dogs twice. So I'd say if you're in for a Japanese-style action game, go Yakuza. If you want a more GTA-in-HK thing, go Sleeping Dogs.

How many Acts is One Step From Eden to complete a run?

Also is there a deck thinning mechanic? I watched the first part of the Giant Bomb quicklook and Jan keeps taking cards but there dosent seem to be an option to get rid of chafe.

I purchased One Step From Eden on a minor whim yesterday, after learning about it and watching some of the developer's demo stream on Steam. I'm getting into this much more than I did Slay the Spire, but hopefully it holds up in the long run. I've made three runs and somehow unlocked one additional character; I'm guessing it'll take a lot more to develop the skill to regularly get to the ending.

Upgrades and Removes can be purchased or gained in other ways over the course of a run, then applied to any card (Spell) in your deck out of battle. One interesting thing about deck size is that your Mana generation increases with deck size: 0.1/s for every five cards (at least as far as I've been able to see). Since Mana is needed to actually apply most of your spells, it feels like some balance needs to be performed between building a synergistic deck and having enough Mana to regularly cast your Spells.

As another initial impression, I can definitely see there being a lot of variety in builds between characters based on their Spells and default Weapon. The initial character, Saffron, has a P-shooter that costs no Mana, so you can pretty much just hold down the weapon fire button the whole time. But the character I unlocked, Terra, has a more powerful default Weapon that costs Mana to cast, so it can't be spammed constantly. Instead, it has to be used tactically to break tiles to restrict the enemy movement and provide opportunity for her other starting Spells. Using focuses to bias your deck towards a certain type of synergy has potential to be an important part of the game's strategy.

Terra also starts with an artifact that gives more mana regen for broken tiles, which lets her fire her weapon faster... and break tiles faster... And she has a spell that fires a shot from every broken tile right at an enemy that can do disgusting damage if you can set it up. Yeah, it's very obvious how they want you to play her.

I've unlocked the first set for the musician, and her weapon is... difficult to explain? You fire it and then it lights the four squares around you and your current one, where you are when it finishes determines the effect. Self-fragile, Trinity, 30 shields, fire an attack, or restore mana (more than it costs). Tricky to use, but if you draw trinity spells or things that care about you having fragile it's got potential. She has a card that does 40 damage to you for 100 shields. But if you already HAVE shields... it's just going to +60 them, and she can give herself shields.

Week Two of Working from home, "Until Further Notice" complete. Given that my city has effectively banned more than 10 people from being in a building at the same time for at least two more weeks, I guess I'll be at this for at least a couple more weeks. Probably longer.

On the plus side, I don't think I have to worry about anyone trashing my office with black balloons next month on my birthday. Even better, I can plausibly avoid any possible parties, because "Social distancing." Sorry, you'll just have to make a bigger showing in 10 years when I'm really over the hill, I guess.

I will play maybe one of the free to keep games from the last few days but I've taken every damn one of them because I am a bad person. I don't even know what some of them are. I clicked that orange juice game and didn't read anything, saw all the screenshots and one part of my brain asked, "Is this a porn game?" Another part said, "I don't think so but you can't always tell maybe we should read the text," The rest of my brain shouted that part down saying, "IT'S A FREE GAME CLICK THE BUTTON CLICK THE BUTTON," and now I have all three of them.

Remember when I said, "I only buy games I intend to play right away"? Well I'm a complete trashpicker when shit's free. I'm close to having more games on my epic account than my steam account because I can't NOT click on the free shit every week. Played *exactly* two of them and that was on Xbox.

    ARGH.

I made it to the final boss slinging a Anima/Miseri deck. 600 HP left, I was SO CLOSE. Those attack patterns though... one of them I got destroyed by. Not sure if I should have run it leaner, but having the fire damage=mana and then ALL THE BURN SPELLS meant I could just mash buttons to explode and ignite the board. Also, I got the +1 spell power for rescues early on, and... lots of rescues.

That run unlocked three more characters to try out though, so that's cool.

..."One step from Eden" as my final screen... dammit.
