i need to re-read the books because i haven't read them for a while, and i think i was too young to really take anything in

i do remember crying like a small schoolgirl in the subtle knife
when lee scoresby is killed and he clutches at his little daemon as he dies

i am talking like proper crying

I thought the saddest part in the series was
When Lyra found all the bottled daemons in the arctic base in the first book.

Honestly, the books were good and I enjoyed them but I'm not sure they'll translate to good films. I guess we'll see.

I know that The Golden Compass will translate into a fucking awesome movie so long as they don't shy away from the fact that the church is straight up evil.

I'm reading the first book right now. I totally hadn't gotten to the part where it is revealed that the church is evil. Luckily, rl filled in the gaps for me there, so no harm done.

I probably wouldn't have noticed. I suck at seeing subtext.

I never got the Christian Narnia themes even though I read them while I was in 8th grade at a friggin' catholic school and religion all up ins.

I'm pretty sure the story in the Subtle Knife would be a lot harder to enjoy if you hadn't read The Golden Compass, anyway

I have never once read the golden compass. The subtle knife was the only one I read. The book focuses much more on william, or whatever, and his trials than it does on the little girl.

    *sigh* Faith in humanity...dwindling.

There was a quote in the Watchmen thread about how someone was talking to a guy who said that it was very Alan Moore to have V as fire and Evey as rain or whatever and that V for Vendetta was totally faithful to the comic. He was then asked if he'd ever read the comic and said no.

That's the vibe I'm getting right now.
