There's very little gameplay in it, mostly all movies, it seems. And it looks like it's a dedicated single player sort of romp. I mean that the single player version has one character you HAVE to use? I can't believe it is but it would suck holy granola if it was.
I really enjoyed the first one. Even though I did suck at timing magic with my friends. The trailer looks good. Has Square said anything official about this going online? I would love this to be online, it would be so much easier to get a group of friends together to play online rather then all of us meeting in person.
Edit:
I always loved the short melee things. Which I am hoping they won't make you stick with a single player.

I want my invisible bird madonna titted thing!
Everything we've seen about the game seems to suggest it's shifted from a multiplayer game to a singple player adventure a la Zelda.

Producer stressed during trailer's original showing that everything is real-time. Technically it isn't anything special, but it is quite smooth looking.
Of course in game engine, and in game with your control are quite different. But if thats the caliber that can be expected from the Wii I'll be content for the next 5 years.
Also getting a Skies of Arcadia vibe from the trailer. Which is never a bad thing.

In any case, WANT WANT WANT
I understand why they would want to focus more on singleplayer. But in all honesty, I never played the original alone. The main reason I bought it was for the co-op with friends. Also, DS connectivity, has there been anything said about it? Will it be in the game?

I remember reading it will be. BIG SURPRISE.
If it's single player my interest just dropped sharply. Not totally just sharply. I'd be shocked if it is tho.
I also only played the original in coop. The simplicity of the gameplay never really gave me much desire to play it solo.
DS connectivity certainly wouldnt harm the game at all in regards to alienating gamers. I'm pretty sure everyone alive owns a DS.

They can beef up the single player game if they want but they had better not fuck around with the multi player awesome that was the original game's raison d'etre.

That's probably what the DS version is for...
Maybe the Wii version is single player but owning the DS version lets you play it on the Wii in the Wii game with upgraded models etc etc? With the DS as the controller?
... Oh, lord, I hope i m rite. The trailer looks really cool; it's hard to gauge anything from a 30-second vid, but I definitely get a light whiff of steampunk in my high-fantasy. Kind of like FF12 + FF9, and I thought I had read somewhere that the guys from FF9 were working on this.
For anybody who has a hard time streaming this stuff you can download the flash video file here: http://www.square-enix.co.jp/ffcc/flash/FFCCTCB_PV05251.flv and play it in the latest version of VideoLAN (though in windows you need to set it to use GDI instead of Direct X because of a video rendering bug)
If the gameplay in Crystal Bearers is what this video suggests, then they probably shouldn't call it Crystal Chronicles. Ah well. Looks really cool. I dig the style they're going for. CC didn't jive with me anyway, so change is welcome.
Also - if thats ingame, then lol Game cube 1.5 lol.
(Not really - it's super pretty!)
Well, I mean, it really looks a whole bunch like FF XII.
It really does.
I think it looks better, but maybe not from a technical standpoint. I thought FFXII was just very dreary looking ... this looks more fun and adventurous.
As always I'm impressed with Square's art direction and animation quality ... but I'm still not a big fan of their RPGs. So I'm wondering what this game will actually be since it's genre is just up in the air at this point.
Blue Skies + Bright Colors + REALLY BLUE Skies >>>>>>>>> Polygons and/or FUCKING DREARY REALITY
Of course (Blue skies and Polygons)++
All they need to do is add the collection of roast chicken to regain health and I'm sold. Oh and if I collect a hundred of anything a little tune should play.
(I spam that link a lot - but I believe it's message so hard.)
Sure it's a joke. But it's a joke at the expense of the fucking horrible dreary world most games have descended into.
"Make games that are fucking happy you cunts" would be it's message.
I've never played FFXII but it looked very colourful and cheery from it's adverts - which is how games should be. It's looks a lot less emo than the train wreck of FFVIII (the last main game I've played).
I thought Blue Sky In Games was a joke. And that FFXII was cheery and colorful.
I have to admit that I didn't see much of FFXII. I really don't like games with menu-based combat, so all that I saw was from what my roommates playing in the living room ... one level was at night, another was in a dank dungeon, another was in some town in the desert.

Eh. The color of the sky and expression on character's faces has nothing to do with the quality of a game or how beautiful it is.
That said, Crystal Bearers looks great.
maus: Sure there are dungeons and caves and such, but there is a city in the sky, and huge open plains, and a sea made of sand. Lots of pretty stuff in FFXII.
The few in-engine sections (running through the town and that short battle sequence) make it seem like it'll be one of the best looking Wii titles when it's released. I really don't care aboout the multi much, so if they've beefed up the single player story and the action is good, I'll be all over this.

Of course it doesn't. No-one ever said it did. But it makes a good general point about the style and direction of games. All the gritty dark games, or the urban games, where did the happy, unrealistic games go? The variety of styles is limited at the moment. Lots of us who just can't comprehend why Forza and PGR and GTA are popular when games like Outrun 2006 and Excite Truck exist. There is a lot of focus on realism by many developers - and I at least find it quite tiring.

It looked to me like a lot of the movie stuff might have been CG - kind of hard to tell when the gameplay is so small, it makes the models hard to compare. I'm pretty sure the part they took the earlier screen from (energy blast while flying) was in-engine, though, and that character model looked pretty awesome.
Really, there's no reason to quibble. It looks good. Other devs should cry when the compare their PSP port jobs to this, for they are failures.

I've never really understood the blue skies in game argument, as happy, blue-skied games still exist and made to this day. Nintendo still makes this style of game, as well as other companies. But it is fun to point and get angry about gritty western shooters and emo-anime adventures and RPGs being popular. People just tend to ignore that happy, blue-skied games exists because they are generally aimed more at children (and crusty gaming vets).

this is a symptom of games not being happy enough -

But the actual content of the game is happy-go-lucky as fuck. Just because of the bizarre title change Nintendo likes to do doesn't change the fact that the game still has blue skies and is cute as hell. Not to mention that Nintendo has done the badass Kirby thing since the early games on the Gameboy and SNES (anyone remember the add for Kirby's Dreamland II?)
But it's exactly the "Happy Blue Sky Games are Kiddie" bullshit that annoys older gamers. In that ukresistance article PoP and Outrun are there - they aren't "kiddie" but they are damn well "happy" games.
It's more the stagnation of genres thats more annoying the anything else.
