oh wait lmao the site is working now, and they didn't cancel it, they "postponed" it until "later in the summer"
this sounds like a way to avoid having to give refunds even though everyone who had plans to come is probably fucked on travel costs already this close to it and might not be able to reschedule around another date later in the year
I imagine GDC ain't getting a refund for the convention center rental, though.
they might honestly
at least partial
Insurance maybe.

I don't really care if a game is RtwP or turn-based; it is completely irrelevant to whether I enjoy a game or not. I like both styles of game and think each has strengths and competencies and as I like both it's more about how good the implementation and execution is in the gameplay or story.
It's actually been somewhat surprising to me to see the vehemence of people's in regards to this; and I get it, that people have opinions and preferences so it makes sense, but like I said, it barely even factors into my consideration so it just had never occurred to me that this might become as big a controversy as it has on the internet.

We'll fracture lifelong friendships over what color an otherwise uninteresting dress is.

Forget it, Jake. It's the interwebs.
We once got the word "green" banned in the comic book movie thread.
I honestly love that Jackbox sticks with a group of voice actors/announcers for their stuff, though I actually thought this was going to be Bracketeering 2 at first

oh definitely
it's been the same crew for decades, even
the quiplash host in particular has been around since the original you don't know jack games in the mid 90s!
I think I asked this before but now it's on sale so: how much knowledge of Divinity / Original Sin and it's world should I have before dipping my toes into D:OS2? Should I try the first Original Sin game first? I've heard that the sequel is better in basically every way but I also don't want to dive head first into a world the game thinks I should know, but don't.

I feel like both Original Sin games are worth playing, as I still had tons of fun with the first OS, BUT it is not necessary to play the first one before the second one - they are just stories from the same universe, and there is something like thousand years of difference between them, so they do not really have any common plot points.
RTwP v Turn based.
Kinda depends. Anything that requires micromanagement, turn based is better imo. But if the game lets you just point a character at enemies and leave them to it, RTwP has better flow to it.
Main problem with RTwP in general is poor pathfinding, and characters blocking each other in chokepoints.
Fix that, give better AI, and a way to give people priorities (like they had in Dragonage Origins), and RTwP gets lot more manageable.

I'm not ideologically oppposed to RTWP; I just think that a lot of the games it's been used in have been a bad fit, particularly with the D&D ruleset. Slavishly adhering to the rules of D&D (which is, itself, a turn-based game!), with its little cone effects and lack of "stickiness" to fighter classes, makes micromanaging your little dudes an exercise in tooth-grinding frustration as your wizard constantly lights up your own party instead of the bad guys, as your fighter stands there drooling while the monsters walk around him to maul the rogue, etc.
But by contrast, Freedom Force was real time with pause and that's one of my favorite games ever and its freewheeling, pinballing fun, with characters whacking other characters into buildings (which promptly collapse), would be hugely diminished by making it all regimented and turn-based. But Freedom Force, crucially, doesn't feature huge mobs of enemies (usually it's a 1:1 between you and villains, or you're slightly outnumbered) and the pathing is consequently better, so when you tell Minuteman to make a big sweeping swing there's a good chance he'll actually execute it the way you wanted instead of wandering off and punching a wall.
In related news, everyone should play Freedom Force

whenever I play a real-time turn-based game, I toggle all of the combat pause options so I'm essentially playing it turn-based because it pauses after every action everyone takes

website's broke but I assume this is supposed to say GDC is cancelled for this year due to the covid-19 epidemic
when did chun li start on heroin
I think I might do full-flex if I go to PAX West this year.
it's mahvel, baby!
GDC is extremely important for networking, especially as a newer indie dev
but holy shit we have a global pandemic, a gutted CDC epidemiology team, and mike fucking pence is the epidemic tsar
