I think I asked this before but now it's on sale so: how much knowledge of Divinity / Original Sin and it's world should I have before dipping my toes into D:OS2? Should I try the first Original Sin game first? I've heard that the sequel is better in basically every way but I also don't want to dive head first into a world the game thinks I should know, but don't.
I played DOS2 without having touched the original and had a blast. I never felt like I was unintentionally left in the dark, all the omitted information was a mystery to unravel.
I'm not ideologically oppposed to RTWP; I just think that a lot of the games it's been used in have been a bad fit, particularly with the D&D ruleset. Slavishly adhering to the rules of D&D (which is, itself, a turn-based game!), with its little cone effects and lack of "stickiness" to fighter classes, makes micromanaging your little dudes an exercise in tooth-grinding frustration as your wizard constantly lights up your own party instead of the bad guys, as your fighter stands there drooling while the monsters walk around him to maul the rogue, etc.

Holy shit the horse races in Witcher 3 are genuinely hateful experiences.
I remember doing one and promising myself to never ever do one again
Now the fistfight quest line I definitely dropped everything else to finish asap

The secret to horse racing is making sure you're right in front of your nearest opponent when you run out of stamina, so that they crash directly into your horse butt and lose time struggling to navigate around you until you can gallop again.

I won't say that they're good, but I basically never lost one
Yeah, I never had a problem winning a race, but it always felt like I was just abusing some cheat to do it. But then they also felt genuinely unwinnable if I didn't.

Time again to lament the travesty that is we never got a PC game turn-based RPG using the 4e ruleset.
What version is the D&D board games? Because The Tales from Candlekeep are turn based and meant to emulate those.

like they're all named Roach, but I don't really remember if you swap horses during the game, especially since they play really loose with the rules of "how did geralt's get his horse over here"

I think there is a point where you can be given a different colored horse and it simply replaces roach.

But really, Geralt just names all his horses Roach because he's lazy.
I forget where he says it but I remember a line at some point that was basically:
"You would make a good Roach, because you have the quality that all good Roaches have.
