Yeah, you know what else everyone said? That humans would never fly. That we were all bound to the earth forever, and it was stupid to even try.

But only a few people were brave enough to buck to conventional wisdom and say you know what? I think people will fly. But only if some folks are bold and visionary enough to give it a shot.

It's just a shame that only two of those people were the Wright brothers, and Artifact was more shades of Franz Reichelt.

Since I was revamping resource collection I decided to lower the belt layer by one floor to give more wiggle room for weaving belts around. Needs some cleanup, but will be much easier to navigate/use now.

    *SNIP*
The big project, however, was skipping the usual doubling of my smelters (once I unlocked T4 belts), and instead jumping straight to using the new Refinery recipe that uses water to nearly double ore output. Required upgrading my coal power again to take full advantage of my Pure node.

But now I have two Pure Iron Nodes fed into the refineries on the right there, which is putting out... about 1800 ingots per minute or so. These new recipes aren't quite as easy to split into convenient amounts, but two belts worth is being fed into my new Steel plant on the left, which pulls from those four normal coal nodes west of the canyon.

Grand total: 1440 steel/min, 845 iron/min, and 240 coal/min (Overclocked the coal nodes to 250% to have some extra for making explosives)

That should cover my iron and steel needs for a WHILE. I want to start using refiners for concrete, copper, caterium, and quartz too, but I need to get a production line for insulated beams and motors going first to be able to afford building them. Also refiners use a ton of power so it's probably time to start making fuel plants. Which will let me eventually free up my pure coal node for making even more steel.

And here I am just sitting on four coal power plants (which I can make to 8, since it's a pure node) thinking "I really should upgrade this pile of smelters and iron manufacturing to actually create end-products instead of just spitting out some reinforced plates and every single iron raw material"

Yea I'm up to 32 coal power plants and I think they'll get me through my reinforced frame and computer factory, but just. Then it will be time to build the fuel power plants I just unlocked. I'm still not sure how I want those layouts to look.

Yeah the most I've done with oil since they added byproducts was create a very, very simple setup just to produce rubber and plastic to unlock stuff in the HUB. Getting it working to make stuff like computers and fuel power is brand spanking new for me and I've been putting it off.

computers aren't too hard, you just need straight plastic and circuit boards, which are just plastic and copper sheets. I have 8 refineries set to 6 plastic/ 2 rubber and outputting waste fuel to 8 fuel tanks which I just go manually flush occasionally. I just got the recycled plastic recipes so on new factories I'll probably do a different layout than I have currently. I'm definitely finding that I'm not going to tear apart old factories to use new recipes. I'll just go build new factories elsewhere, it'll be easier.

Eh, I'd rather they make a cool game that lots of people like.

Like, I am constantly amused by Bethesda's continual fuckups with Fallout 76, but I'd easily give that all up for 76 to have been a legitimately rad game.

It's funny until you realize the guys who made that mod basically got ripped off by Valve and Riot, who put out their own versions and basically stole all of their thunder.

I'm as surprised as anybody, but it turns out that maybe Google Stadia isn't a complete White Elephant:
Google Stadia is helping Bungie keep Destiny 2's lights on during Covid-19

    [...]
According to O’Kelly, Bungie and Google have been working closely to find ways to run playtesting sessions on in-development builds through Google’s streaming platform.

“Getting playtests at scale is a hard thing to do – a lot of bandwidth involved – so they’ve been collaborating with us to set that up and that looks like it’s going to be a really amazing solution for us. It’s not something we necessarily thought about initially but it looks like it’s going to be a great way for us to keep getting regular playtests and do it pretty easily”

Makes sense, really. Stadia is already set up to stream high-performance games through internet wizardry, so why shouldn’t it work within a more closed-off, development context?

It seems like Google Stadia's high-bandwidth low-latency network optimisation is perfectly suited to enabling specialised distributed game development for AAA game development teams now having to work from home.

The original interview is at IGN, but RPS does a good job of highlighting the technical implications of what was said.

    god that fucking teaser

there's already an industry of garbage-tier clickbait journalism that speculates on a new elder scrolls games

my favorite being the ones that call it "Skyrim 2" written by some poor content mill and then farmed out to bizarre sites that have nothing to do with gaming

    WAYyrjXh.jpg

    and then bethesda releases this:

    cgoDrTIh.jpg

and it's literally just the elder scrolls font over a landscape that could be part of any area of tamriel

and now we have multi-hour videos of people online analyzing 37 seconds of video

    qioafjPh.jpg

and god I just love seeing people trying to devour these delicious, calorie-free crumbs

I can only hope there are several more years of teasers that have no relevant information about a project that is years away from even having a working title

It takes so much time to tidy everything up versus just building huge flat planes of foundations. It makes me real happy when it's done though. I've just about finished up my iron factory, going to put in one more row of assemblers to create some cables.

This is actually a common misconception based on our Western perception. Drodo Auto Chess, the one by the original devs, is a huge success on mobile and in China. Valve's Underlords is also something that a lot of people assume is doing well because we all pay attention to Valve, but it had huge player count dropoffs during its early access period and is probably in a distant third place worldwide.
