I was thinking of signing up with Amazon's rental service, and I was wondering if there was anything that I should know before making a decision? Whether about Amazon or with online rentals in general.
Are there any dangers in it, or are there better alternatives, or is it fine?
I use netflix and it work great for me. I don't know what the details for Amazon's program are so I can't really tell you which is a better deal. You might want to give them a look.
My roomate has had Netflix and Blockbuster. He switched to blockbuster because they had the turn it in to the store, get another rental deal. It's great for watching TV shows. He's watched 4 seasons of 24 in a semester through it. He also mixes in regular movies as well. Definitely a good deal.

I would recommend Blockbuster over Netflix as well because of the free in-store rentals. Sorry if they don't have that in London.
Well, seeing as the OP appears to be in the UK, Netflix isn't an option for him (since I don't believe they operate outside the US).
I didn't pay attention to where the OP was from, but I also didn't know that netflix wasn't available there so I guess it wouldn't have mattered... Live and learn I guess.
Also, many of the online DVD rental places are also providing services where you can watch a certain number of movies online. This is a pretty cool feature if you want to watch a show but are on the road or in between deliveries.
I signed up for the lovefilm.com trial period just to see. I did take a quick look at Blockbuster's and it might be handy if there advantages to them actually having stores around.
I do like to watch lots of movies, and I like to get fairly obscure ones now and then so I thought the variety would be an advantage. I don't know how many times I've gone to Blockbusters with the intention of getting a movie and just walking around with nothing taking my fancy, and those are relatively big stores too.
