I really don’t think I’m interested in a show that is not Grogu and Mando cruising the galaxy, getting into trouble but ultimately getting out of it again by the end of the ep. of course I’ll watch the start of the next season, but if it pivots to like, the politics of the mandalore throne, I’m out

    Yeah like
One of the things I realised on the first Bo Katan episode is that with the armour, mando is essentially invulnerable, and I asked my self, well then where is all this tension I’m feeling? And I realised that it’s the kid that raises the stakes, he’s the one that is vulnerable and he’s what pushes din to question his beliefs.

With that all gone, I’m really wondering where the tension is going to come from next season. Don’t get me wrong I love the idea of more Mandolorian lore, but I do not know how this season is going to work.

    My guess
Is now that Din has taken his helmet off multiple times his whole Death Watch spinoff Mando code is broken so he's going to have to deal with that.
I'd imagine you have the Bo/Din face off for the Darksaber leading up to them somehow trying to retake Mandalore. I could also see him running into members of his old Culvert, probably that armorer lady, and having a falling out there because of him breaking his code.

    Honestly
I don't think there's a world in which Grogu and Mando don't end up back together having more adventures. We've built up their connection so much, I'd be shocked if something didn't happen that made it so Luke had to take a sabbatical

I'll say that after the last season I thought they were gonna take Grogu back to the Yoda-people homeworld, not just "the Jedi" so maybe that's what gets Mando back, is he has to take Grogu specifically to see his like, mom and dad or whatever

That leaves a good hook for lore nerds ("oh man we're gonna learn about the Yoda species!!") and also serves the purpose of giving Mando a new quest involving the kid that keeps them on the move Lone Wolf and Cub style

They didn't cast Ashley Eckstein for Ahsoka even though Rosario Dawson's voice sounds nothing like her, so why the big to-do for one scene of Luke?
A lot of people probably were not familiar with Ashoka before the Mandolorian. Everybody knows who Luke is.

    Which means it's okay when
you just shoot him from behind and have a (better) soundalike do the voice! Or recast with an actor who looks similar but is able to give a human performance!

Like you said, everybody knows who Luke is. Put any blonde actor with a decent chin in that black outfit with the one glove and a green lightsaber and we fuckin' get it
that was Hamill's voice, they just youngified him. imperfectly

One way or the other I doubt Grogu stays with Luke for long. Grogu and Mando are too integral to the show to just have them split up forever. The question will be how and when they reunite.

I also don't really anticipate them using young Luke anymore than they absolutely have to. You could obviously tell it was fake but imho it looked a lot better than R1 Leia and other attempts at de-aging. That said I imagine its an annoying (and probably expensive) process to work with and the execution is always hit or miss. Up till this point most of the cg in this series has been backgrounds and vehicles, stuff that can look really good because its moving or far enough back to not get heavy scrutinization.

Luke kinda felt like a big, cool, "hey look at this" one time deal but who knows. I hope they don't bring anymore big heros into the mix. Having the paths cross with Filloni-verse characters was fine and Boba Fett is cool because Temuera Morrison is cool and I'm glad he's back getting his due and fleshing out Boba Fett. But any more lingering on OT heros would take too much away from the individuality of the series. Having Luke come in and wreck shop, then getting about a minute or two of speaking time before fucking off and setting up new avenues of conflict for the next season was perfect I think

Yeah I am in complete agreement, that’s the one thing I marked out for but then immediately hoped never happened again:
Luke showing up was a big moment but the whole point of this show is to create a lower-stakes action adventure tale centered around the sketchier areas of Star Wars

If we start going into “we have to take back the throne of Mandalore” or “we have to defeat Grand Admiral Thrawn’s plot to destroy the New Republic” and worse we have to team up with More Famous Characters to do it? That’s not why I’m here, and that’s not what makes the show special

We didn’t even know our main character’s name or face until the last episode of the first season. That is both a fun reference to old spaghetti westerns, yeah, but it’s also a statement of intent. This is a show about the nobodies. And that’s great! It’s neat for them to cross paths with the big leagues every so often but the longer they linger there, the more it doesn’t feel like its own thing, and is in danger of becoming Just More Star Wars

And even if it’s good Star Wars, I would rather it stay unique

I don't expect Grogu to be back next episode, but possibly mid-season, probably in the finale, and if not then then certainly in the following season and/or whatever form the big crossover takes. Probably long enough to create fan demand, make us miss him, and keep him safe from this retaking Mandalore plotline

If it does happen in a season finale, won't be surprised if, as others suggested, he leaves Luke early because he senses Din in danger, a la ESB

In the meantime, I can't imagine we won't get some form of Grogu content. Maybe The Bad Batch will show how he survived Order 66. Maybe we'll get an animated Luke/Grogu training short as part of Visions

But in my mind there's no way he's not coming back because 1. the show is Din and Grogu's relationship and them having random adventures, despite the fact that they're mixing things up next season and 2. Grogu is so clearly set up to be the second Mandalorian Jedi and probable owner of the darksaber-- and while he's probably 1-200 years away from that, I do think the show will make it clear he's on that path and that being part of Din's clan is important

Honestly thought it was just Sebastian Stan in makeup so I guess the de-aging CGI worked well enough on me
(though I'm honestly surprised they didn't just do that, probably woulda been cheaper/easier)

because the goal is literally to cheat death. I honestly think the reason they are doing these small roles like this is to work to perfect the technology so they can do it in large roles in ten-15 years.

Why pay an actor when you can have a replica do all the work?

    Good point

Specifically he seemed to be trying to clear up some confusion on what's next. Since people thought we were getting Mando S3 next Christmas but now we seem to be getting Boba at that time

I guess at the Disney meeting what they actually said was "the next chapter of the Mandalorian story" will come out next Christmas. So I think he's saying similar to how the order of the Defenders stuff was something like DD1, DD2, JJ1, LC1, IF1, Defenders, DD3, etc.

So in this case Mando 1, Mando 2, Boba, Mando 3
