continuing to read beastars, and while its society is fucked even more than our society, man it makes you feel so good when different character's better natures and hard work lead to genuinely positive relationships.
on the one hand i kinda like how in media res-y CCA is and that you don't really get to see char's complete heel turn and are instead left to speculate (maybe it's because my original viewing order was 0079 and then straight into CCA)
but yeah it is a bit disjointed
i've seen some people try to justify it by saying that what happened with kamille just kind of left char fully broken (tho kamille also like... gets better eventually)
Not sure if Hi-Streamer or Beltorchika's Children goes into it but I'm surprised nobody's done some sort of manga interquel a la Deleted Affair that shows why the turn happened.
The first half of Hi-Streamer has all the lead up of Char reappearing and taking control of the new Neo Zeon force, and of course did not make it into the adaptation, but unless a lot of that time is spent in Char's head I don't know how much it would help
called juno and louis being into each other. called it! her crushing on legosi was mostly pretty superficial, but louis and her developed a weird mutual respect because they have pretty similar strengths and flaws in a lot of ways, even their personalities are really different.

a big plus for beastars is that, coincidentally like land of the lustrous (studio orange's other big well known production) I never have any idea where the story will go. it is incredibly refreshing.

Sometimes this is good and sometimes it is weird. The recent worldbuilding for example has been...interesting.

okay this isn't really a spoiler since i'm not even gonna say who says the line, but this is a really good paraphrased line from beastars:
"I love this world. I can't say that with a smile like I used to, but if I can say it with a scowl and mean it just as much as I used to, that's fine."
I really like that sentiment.

Man, besides the two leads everyone in this show is a huge racist. They just throw hurtful stereotypes right into others' faces like it's nothing!

also only serious complaint about beastars is it could use more haru. because haru is basically always great.

So it'll be one or two episodes for Burn the Witch? Or are they doing a series with no manga content, and instead just writing original anime scripts?
One shots are usually prototypes for a series anyway so maybe a studio approached him for a proper pitch and they went from there? I have to imagine hes pretty much fed up with the manga editorial process anyway
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

Burn the Witch is getting serialized as well as an anime. What that's probably going to do to pacing can only be described as hilarious.
I thought Kubo as a guy just liked short-form stories more so as he was forced to do a long form serialization he got fed up and literally started putting in less effort because he ended up hating doing Bleach.
Like Kubo seems like a guy who should just be an artist for other people's works so he doesn't have to deal with as much of the industry he dislikes.

Kubo says he will be playing Animal Crossing by the time the anime comes out, which makes me think he's been slowly working on it pre-serialization.
Unless new Bleach anime will get it's ending completely rewritten, I don't know what will even be the point of this adaptation, as it is simply a horrendous conclusion to the story.

Just, nothing works, at all.
It really needed to end with Aizen getting beaten, imo, and go into epilogue after that. It definitely suffered from a push to keep having more stuff going on.
From what I've heard the last arc was absurdly bloated and dragged out (with a bad guy for every letter of the alphabet), but then the ending was super rushed because Kubo had health issues and had to end it now now now. So the worst of both worlds.

Aizen beaten, Ichigo depowered, world is saved and returns to normal, cut and wrap right there.

I present to you the best manga canon scene that didn't make it into Brotherhood (since it was adapted the first time around).
My favorite thing about this clip is the way mustang says "Yes."

Well unsurprising that it got canned but its kinda funny a Bleach spin off is replacing it
As I understand it editorial and hard focus on character polls really pushed the story in ways he didnt want to go.
Maybe thats been resolved?
Stupid character polls and bad editors resolved? I super doubt it. Those are lifer issues for Jump.
