The whole reason they killed the Quincy clan is because Quincy stuff obliterates souls instead of purifying them, which was causing massive imbalance in the cycle, and when the Shinigami tried to ask them to stop with the whole "potentially upending the world" stuff they refused and had to be stopped by force.

None of that came through in the final arc.

Didn’t the soul society also deal with the situation with some serious scumbag tactics as well?

Stuff like “oh, no, we got to the site of that massive Hollow attack far to late to keep them from overwhelming and eating that family of Quincies that called for our help! If only we’d been faster.”
Or “What? No, I don’t know where Captain Mad Scientist was yesterday. I’m sure he wasn’t out kidnapping Quincies to experiment on; that would be wrong.”

Granted, it was Uryu telling the story, but to hear him tell it, the Quincies were the ones who offered to work with the soul reapers, who in turn refused and adopted a zero-tolerance attitude to the Quincies fighting any hollows at all, even in a cooperative effort with the reapers.

Considering Soul Society had Aizen and the Mad Scientist and so on active at the time, it would have been excessively easy to muddy the waters and make both sides wrong for the final arc. The final villain should have been someone the age of Ichigo's dad who witnessed the massacre when he was Ichigo's age. Do a backstory arc on THAT and delete the confusing and terrible one about Ichigo's TRUE PARENTS (dun dun dun) instead. And stop making your shonen hero God's son, it should not have to be explained how that ruins their arc.

ywach was the son of the soul king and had serious daddy issues, but central46 (basically soul society congress) ordered quincies be massacred for being giant shitheads

mayuri being a psycho happened way after the massacre

I mean, most of the old testament is ripe for battle anime.

David and Goliath is as shonen as it gets.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Self isolating is giving me a chance (forcing me?) to watch a lot more stuff. I want to recommend the Madoka spinoff, Magia Record, from this season. It's based on a mobile gacha game but I'm astounded by it. What should be some kind of cheap cash-in comes off more like a full budget reprisal of the series. The animation retains the jaw dropping weirdness of the original show and there's tons of unexpected animation flourishes and creativity going on all over the place. The new character designs are fun and the monster designs (I'm not saying witch designs for a reason) also pop quite a bit. The one thing it lacks compared to the original so far is a determination to psychically scar the viewer, BUT there is some legit weird and sad stuff in there, so the tone isn't off point. So yeah, check it out if the idea of gacha spinoff sounded bad. It's really entertaining so far.

this seems to be the season for weirdly high-quality anime based on gacha spinoffs, between magia record and fate/babylonia

Every one piece arc is slow when read week to week, and blazing fast when read all at once.

The final panel of this week's is goddamn priceless, though.

Samurai 8 is getting its final chapter this week. No news about new series. Next week has a one-shot by the Promised Neverland guy, which kinda irks me because I feel like his working on something new might factor in the pacing issues? Of course, I'm not sure if it's the author or artist.

Give me a Final Fantasy Record Keeper anime.

There’s already an overarcing plot that could be adapted.
