Presumably Infinite Dendrogram was produced by the devs deemed too incompetent to work on New World Online. Pretty much every piece of content we end up seeing is unique and unrepeatable, every character class is completely unique and the balancing is ???????

(Also it's a bad show, but anyway)

That's not actually how it works:

There are dozens of classes anyone can use. At the Pinnacle of certain classes there are unlock requirements for superior jobs that aren't listed. Basically something to do with taking one part of it to an extreme. Paladin has several, as do the other classes.

UBM are created by an AI. They are unique but there are thousands of them popping up all the time. It's really the kind of system a good dev would kill for. They show the UBM console and AI in one of the episodes.

The balance is better than Bofuri. At least you see dozens of superiors instead of just one person being broken. And everyone has a counter. Hell the only really stupid character in dendo is Kirito-- I mean Shu. Who they basically pull out only to have an intentionally kind of dumb Kirito moment on occasion. Bonus points for Shu being extra dumb for basically being the Bofuri joke played straight as he's just a max strength character.

Not much to say on if you think the show is bad. It's a good adaptation that had to condense a bit, but I guess the source material isn't for everyone.

Part of the reason that it's a bad show is that none of those things you just said are IN the show. We know how much money it costs to enter a certain dungeon (for most classes, but not Paladins), but I don't recall receiving nearly as coherent an explanation of what a "Superior" is from the show anywhere. Or why it would be a good idea to let the game (through monsters) or players permanently kill off important NPCs. Wouldn't the players just... kill all of them because game players are trolls who like to bend and/or break systems to see what happens? Or what it would mean to the players if their nation lost a war? Would they become forced members of the conquering nation? Prisoners? Should they care about this? If yes, why did they ditch the previous war then? Why does the Princess think their avatars are "quite reliable" when actually the bad guy's assessment of them is confirmed to be accurate by established historical facts? etc.

The balance is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in the genre. "My special power is a warping attack." "Neat, my special power is a sentient person who gains super powers of their own and is maybe in love with me? I dunno, we're taking it day by day."

Dendrogram's entire gimmick is they give all the players a JoJo stand and unleash them in a giant sandbox VRMMO. And it got briefly mentioned but there is an in-game jail for players that kill the NPCs of their nation.

Yes, it's a very good show. One of the few cases where I managed to sit through a long, monster of the week-type show. It's very definitely aimed at a younger audience, though.

It may be ridiclous, but i'm having fun with Infinite Dendogram still. I need to search out hte light novels, as they're by all reports much, much better than the anime.

Also it's got Babi who's great and amusing (I enjoy that the thing annoying her is that the mech looks vaguely like a church. Priorities, Babi, Priorities)

Sold the last of the volumes/dvd collections before moving today.

Nothing like selling collections of dvds to realise they don't hold their value too well! Our glorious streaming feature has a few upsides at least.

The light novels don't actually explain superior jobs until the point the anime should reach next episode, so that isn't actually a fault of the anime so much as the story is more about Ray and he doesn't have a reason to really question what they are because he's busy with trying not to get dead. They also explain some stats though I dunno if the anime will bother. Though I guess they probably will because Kuma bro isn't as dumb if you don't understand why his stats are stupid.

A lot of random bits don't get explained until later because the pov is from a new player just getting used to things. The post Franklin discussion goes into war and what happens to nations because it also explains guilds and some politics and they introduce other countries via people in the arena. All stuff that probably won't make it into the anime due to where it'll stop.

Killing NPCs outside of a war gets you put on the wanted list, and leads to being put in gaol. Which is an unescapable prison. Franklin mentions it at the start of episode 9? I think, when he explains why he won't kill the princess and when Marie explains her being used as a shield.

Also still pretty sad they skipped over the Marie vs Rook fight. They had the part of him saying he wanted to talk to her at the cafe, but not what comes after.

Embryo are interesting because it's based on how the person thinks about the game. The more game like your thoughts the more game like the embryo. Guns, buffs, weird, whatever

The people who take the game seriously and think well of it end up with the type maiden like Nemesis. The people who take the game seriously but think ill of it for whatever reason get a type apostle.

Oh and I guess the princess thinking they are reliable is a fault of the anime. There is a couple chapters of princess and Marie that were skipped over to just show that one brief meeting scene.

Again though all together the anime has been a pretty good adaptation. A lot of the flaws are more a problem with the novels pacing.

Being stuck inside with a fever, I've been watching some stuff I've meant to for awhile.

Ascendance of a Bookwork is exactly my kind of show. I find it really, really hilarious that the protagonist's name is Main though. Also she super lucked out on inheriting the ability to understand the new world's language. That's probably the thing I think would most get me screwed in a medieval setting. I doubt some heavy scarcity society, even if they wanted to, could afford to take care of some strange new deadweight who they can't communicate with.

It's kind of interesting how the foreign world uses an alphabet writing system as opposed to a syllabary which would make it more like Japanese. (I know Japanese is more than just a syllabary but that does seem to be the core of the writing system as far as I, someone who is terrible at learning foreign languages, can tell.)
