Can't say enough though about how fun exploring the game world is because of how gorgeous it looks. I managed to run it at mostly max settings with RT on at a stable 60, I took a few photos along the way, they're environmental spoilers from beneviento so putting behind tags:
It’s also a section that kind of runs counter to the ethos of how they design RE games, since it doesn’t really lend itself to repeat playthroughs.
I think this is the perk about it being relatively short. While running through it I definitely had the impression that it wouldn't take long at all for a second playthrough.
I guess that confirms Chris will still be around 15+ years later.
I'm honestly wondering if the timeskip isn't a misdirect, and if they'll 'retcon' it later by saying that Rose matured faster due to technically being an E-series, but not in a detrimental way like Eveline was so it's not just 'get old really, really fast'. Resident Evil has always tried to put their stuff in 'present day' and I feel like they want Rose to be the protagonist going forward.
So, bets on the 'BSAA is deploying bioweapons' to be a part of DLC for 8, the main hook for 9 or Revelations 3, or all of the above?
Gotta admit though, they really got me with the opening. I knew going into this game that there were outstanding questions with Mia and Ethan and the mold and that 7 explicitly did not resolve their conditions at the end of the game, so I was completely ready to buy that Chris would gank Mia for being a BOW, and that Ethan was just maybe being used for something.
Just started the game on Hardcore and I knew I should expect a more difficult game but is it really gonna make it so I have to use all 20 bullets plus my knife to take down one zombie? Fucking ridiculous.
I think going by 7 they want you to play on lower difficulties first and unlock more powerful gear for higher difficulty runs

I'm betting that DLC is all the stuff Chris was doing offscreen while Ethan was running around. A showdown with the BSAA going bad and being revealed as Umbrella All Along feels like it could be an entire game. And a game where maybe you play as Rose and utilize crazy bio-weapon powers instead of standard guns and things might require more development than a DLC.
I'm a little disappointed they destroyed the source of the Mold already, this Megamycete. Wouldn't have minded exploring that concept a bit. I guess it doesn't necessarily mean that the Mold is gone, but this ancient organism that controls its infection and absorbs human consciousness is a pretty neat lore element. It puts me in mind of the Plagas from RE4. I like this idea that there's all these ancient organisms and super-parasites from prehistory that are being dredged up, that not everything is just the latest iteration of the T-Virus from Umbrella. Though maybe the original virus is likewise an ancient organism from the same era as these other entities.
And we still need to find out what the hell the Duke is. My money was on another human granted immortality by the Mold like Miranda, just not an asshole about it, but we never really find out for sure.

That waterfall ended up being absolutely gorgeous. Both the framing of everything around it to the actual particle and water effect they had on it.

I have fond memories of playing through the game something like four times to unlock the circular saw with an under-four-hours run, then just holding down the fire button and cutting my way aaaaaaall the way to the top of the mineshaft.
I'm sorry mold people, I can't hear you flying into chunky bits over the overwhelming noise of a circular saw.

Just about to reach the Stronghold, thoughts so far;
I'm enjoying it a lot so far, it really is a blend of RE4 and 7 that's hitting all of my buttons. I can see myself pumping a lot of time into Mercenaries once I've unlocked it.
The characters don't feel quite as memorable as some of the earlier games. Lady Dimitrescu has caught the internet's attention but she's got barely any time in game; I think the advertising actually fucked up here, I think a lot of people were under the impression that she was this game's version of Mr. X or Nemesis. Not having a consistent boss monster that follows you for most of the game does actually feel kind of weird after those two and Jack Baker. One related thing that this game is doing much better than 7 is enemy variety.
The gunplay and puzzles are mostly great, though there've been a couple of times where I caught myself wandering around in the main village not being entirely clear on where I needed to go next. That's probably a me problem as opposed to anything the game was doing wrong.
Real excited to see where the rest of the game goes, and the plot has me pretty invested. I'm guessing at this point that Rose is just
a way for Eve from 7 to get resurrected, so not going to wind up surprised if that's a plot twist.

I think that's marketing's fault more than the development.
I'm more willing to bet that it's likely her content was largely complete at the time of her reveal, and the devs never implemented her thinking that she was going to take off the way she did. But the internet was all "lady big" and marketing was like "CAPITALIZE ON THIS", and the devs couldn't really do much at that point but watch it happen.

They made a pretty vampire lady with huge boobs and poured her into a gown.
They knew exactly what they were doing.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they were absolutely aware "sexy vampire ladies" is a tried and true market strategy since time immemorial, with a splash of Resident Evil "make the thing that chases you around the house Tyrant-y for good measure". However relative to any other usual AAA game hype I don't really see anything to suggest at the time they they were expecting the internet to blow up over it the peculiar way they did.
Just stopped early-ish in the castle (not sure if the demo reached this far because I ran out of time.)
After killing the first daughter.
The Duke already made a callback to "a friend of his."
So far I'm really enjoying this. Both the initial village bit and what I've seen of the castle have been top notch. I'm still less of a fan of first person than third person RE, but I can survive.
I will admit that while I really enjoyed the game, it feels incomplete.
I could've done with a handful of more horde segments in the village, it felt like stuff like using the flour bags or barricading doors very rarely comes up after the intro, though I might get my fill of that in mercenaries mode.
The Chris segment was cool but it felt a little underbaked.
The writing was really bad but in a thoroughly Resident Evil way, so I enjoyed it.
I also was really surprised when there was no last section of the game after the factory (aside from Chris ofc). For whatever reason I really assumed that Miranda was going to get an entire section of the game. Instead immediately after the factory you never return to the (normal) village for the rest of the game. They really could've stood to make the factory shorter and have one more section of the game instead.

No hordes please. What's already there is too much. In fact the whole stronghold/factory bit is like a filled out bingo card of shit that ruined RE. I haven't finished it yet but it feels endless and I haven't enjoyed it even the slightest bit. Everything else has been great.
I'm sad this crappy multiplayer game isn't live yet, me and my buddy love playing through these terrible RE online games and laughing at how bad they are
So Resident Evil 8 is kind of bleh. Not awful, but just not good. Wholly unimpressed and more than a little let down by it. I was really hoping for something like 7 but without gross rednecks.

I don't have re8 but I have been getting bugged by a friend to get into RE. I've actually owned RE1 for years after getting it on special, so I finally booted it up a week or so ago. This is the 2015 on steam release that is the HD remaster of the gamecube version or whatever it is.
I played tank controls of course.
Anyways.
My first impressions weren't good. Limited saves, awkward movement, easy to die because you are fighting controls, limited inventory etc.
But after my first death, something odd happened. I kept thinking about it. I'm going about my day and I'm thinking stuff like: "Maybe I should just remember where things are (fortunately my memory for spaces is extremely good, I don't get lost in this place). I can come back and get them later." "You know it doesn't take long to get through an area once you actually figure out where you are supposed to go so i could always just restart and reload deliberately to save ammo and time."
It's a puzzle game, that has zombies in it. It reminds me heavily of point and click adventure games.
(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.

Yeah, RE1 is veeery much a puzzle game. People get stuck on something like the limited saves and don't think further than that to realize the point is to keep the player from burning through all their resources while exploring; you are very much intended to save, then go out and do a bunch of stuff to figure out the next step. Then when you figure out the next step, you reload the save and beeline it, saving a ton of resources and time because this time you aren't getting jumped by everything on the route or wasting ammo on wrong paths.
Since the game has a limited enemy count, enemies don't drop items, and some killed enemies come back in a stronger form if you don't take extra steps, letting players have unlimited saves would mean most players would very quickly end up trapped in a safe room with a knife and an empty gun, having to restart the whole game.
And once you get things figured out, you realize that getting around is way faster than you think when you aren't walking down every hallway expecting to get attacked.

Can't ya just trade em in? I've got a bunch partially complete recipes at the moment, ya don't gotta fulfill the requirements all at once.
Also Ethan is quite the incurious guy eh? Just out of the Castle and
hey look it's the Umbrella logo, Mother Miranda clearly has some affiliation with the corporation that everybody on Earth would know about and Ethan's reaction is "that looks familiar?"
dawg what? It's fucking Umbrella.
Oh brilliant

Final scene spoilers:
The person walking up the road towards the car and the car hits the brakes? That's Ethan's character model, apparently.
Just finished the first area and really love it. Selectively have been reading spoilers and just read one about Lady D I'm not sure if I missed a document or something or just haven't gotten there yet but...
Post castle spoiler
I just beat her and walked to the ceremony site with the Duke, and stopped for the day.
Where did we find out she is a lady with a blood disorder? I found all the docs about the daughter's being bug people, and I heard her during the fight say only Mother Miranda had seen that form, but I never heard or saw anything about who she is/was. Did I miss a doc or is that info coming shortly and I just didn't get there yet.
Pointing me in the direction to find it myself is preferred to a spoiler, but this doesn't seem like a huge deal.
I am so intro resident evil lore and this game already seems like it's just built to do insane shit with it.

There's a document somewhere that talks about a 'foreigner with a hereditary blood disorder' that winks at it being Lady D, then another document much later that goes into much more explicit details about all of the four lords

I really enjoyed the game. The 2nd area made me sad about how we don't really have a predominant Silent Hill-esque horror series any more.
I feel like game technology has reached a level where the immersion factor is damn near infinite.
I need to get SS rankings in the mini game but it seems like it's going to be a real pain.
