Also (because I missed it a couple of times), there's a merchant right after the first house in NG+. Just turn around after Leon jumps out the window.
So if you want to do something different, you don't have to wait until the second chapter to do it.
man i don't know if i'm up to do a professional S+
i'm on hardcore NG+ on my second run and i'm struggling
missed the treasure before verdugo and had to reload (i still had a save, thank god) and while he wasn't too bad since i splurged on a rocket, having to redo the big fight in the mines and dos gigantes.... i'm tired boss

WHAT
I may have wasted some time by rushing and not seeing this.
Beat me on Wii U: Raybies
Beat me on 360: Raybies666
I remember when I had time to be good at games.

The language I'm reading on tip sites for professional mode confuse me. When it says all weapon upgrades are "unlocked" what does that mean? Like every weapon you buy in the mode is fully upgraded or the weapons you start with are upgraded? Something else?

AFAIK:
Ordinarily the weapon upgrades are gated; only the first two/three levels up until you reach Chapter 7 I think, and exclusive upgrades at Chapter 9 (apart from the upgrade ticket that becomes available from the merchant in Chapter 7)? (I may have those numbers wrong)
But on pro, all the upgrades are available from the start, you just need the money to buy them.
So if you want to put all your money into one weapon, you can max it out way sooner.

So when you start a Professional game do you start a bare-bones new game with the starting pistol at level 1?
Also (because I missed it a couple of times), there's a merchant right after the first house in NG+. Just turn around after Leon jumps out the window.

Did... did they patch this in? I swear to God I didn't see it in my first NG+

If it's a New Game and not loading a completed file, then yes.
So is there carry over of items from Normal/Hardcore?
If you do NG+: yes
If you do NG: no (with the exception of the guns you unlocked via rewards but this gives you the guns at level 1, and at the first typewriter)

Nope, it was always there. (I found it before any patches dropped)
Like I said, you have to actually turn around and look at something you may have already looked at on your first playthrough and determined that there's nothing there, so I'm not surprised people miss it.
man i am really, really not having a good time in the last few chapters of the game on hardcore
absurd damage and tankiness on the regular guys, nobody staggers anymore, plagas spawn constantly, really stupid gotcha spawns all over the place, and the krauser fight is really obnoxious in the remake

I don't like the Krauser fight either. The game seems to give mixed signals on what you're supposed to do leading up to the final battlefield. As for the plagas, don't forget about grenades.
my problem with krauser is that he's got some moves you parry, some you prompt evade, and some you have to move out of the way of, and it feels entirely like guesswork
by sitting still and pelting away all the guys as the run in after Ashley to avoid aggroing the iron maiden. then i try to run past it, and it spawns another single fucken dude out of nowhere just to grab ashley and leave you stuck, and now you can't even help her because you're getting grabbed every other second and can't line up any shots before he zooms off
then after mike fucked off, i aggroed a bunch of guys from the turret part, killed them, went up the tower and realized i could snipe a turret guy from up there. went back down, go in, and ten more fucken guys spawn in, the turrets instantly get manned again, and fuck youuuu

Big turret skip
I have not done it myself but apparently you can skip dealing with the scaffolding and shit by tossing one or two heavy grenades at the turret.
I vastly prefer the new Krauser fight. The old was just a series of randomized quicktime prompts, miss one, u ded
That one is better but the second encounter into the actual boss fight I have problems with. There are several moments that I can't figure out what the intended response of the player is.
Like the one part where you squeeze or crawl through an opening and he's waiting above you with his TMP. You can't dodge his attack, you can't hide behind the piller to the left because there's a laser mine there, so the only thing I can think of is trading fire with him until he jumps down.
Then there's the gauntlet you run while he shoots explosive arrows which I can not navigate without getting knocked down once and then eating another shot immediately after that because the hit stun is a day and a half.
Someone told me you can shorten the crane section by hitting the wall with a heavy grenade so I did that and I have no idea if it was shorter or not it basically broke right after I killed a second wave with a brute?

initiate, throw two heavies before it swings, and it breaks on the first.
now that i got the infinite rocket launcher i should just try a professional A at this point right
no point in doing hardcore first?
I'm really not sure if doing pro A will unlock stuff from the lower difficulties.
I did a Hardcore S+, and didn't get the rewards for S+ Assisted or Standard.

No, beat it in like 5 hours, 7 minutes or so. I think all it checks is if you got an S+ for that rank.
up to the hedge maze at 1:53 so far. feels pretty manageable. i'm trying to see if i can manage silent stranger and frugalist while i'm at it; we'll see. i've taken a few dings so far. if it's more trouble than it's worth i'll leave those for an easy assisted run.
The lack of QTEs in RE4 remake are what make me want a remake of RE5 even more. Despite being inferior to RE4, I still liked that game. However the big blemishes were the QTEs, especially in online co op. I played with a friend and we lost count of how many times we died in those scenes. I don’t know if it was the latency, or us just taking turns screwing up. Either way they were a huge pain in the ass be user both players had to get it right or you’d both die. Gimme a remake without those QTEs, thanks and have a nice day.
krauser ended the frugalist run and shredded the remainder of my body armor
well, it was a good run i guess. still gonna try and hold out for silent stranger; i can live without the armor and just spam heals if needed going forward
hit the island at 3:15; the novistador and hedge maze sections are still kinda rough with the IRL

If they do 5 I feel like it will be completely different given how all the remakes have altered the original story a bunch

For the bolded part: You have time to run past the mined pillars to get to the next pillar before he starts shooting and you have just enough space to safely get a few shots off.
When you get to the gauntlet, run to the first pillar and duck. As soon as he fires, run to the next one and don't stop for anything. When you get to the laser mine and Krauser pops up with grenades, run back a little out of range.
As long as you keep an eye on the bear traps, you can get through that area with zero damage, then saunter back for any items at your own pace.
In both cases, run immediately. I changed the control method so that duck is right stick, and run is left stick / B. Everything else is the standard controls.
From previous games, I'm used to turning around being set to down +B, this change has saved my ass a few times.

Have they altered it that much? The broad strokes are pretty much all the same, and none of the remakes have really touched the subject of Wesker other than he's out there planning evil shit, which is really all the setup 5 needs.

Thought I would check out professional for a few chapters and I think I hit a wall in this game for me. It was a ton of fun and I wanted the typewriter, but I just can't internalize all the paths and the anxiety I get from knowing every second I look at the map could kill my rating is too much. I wish there were more rewards for completing the game at different levels with different ratings, but I definitely got my money's worth out of RE4RM.

professional with the infinite launcher on NG+ is not too bad at all
roughest spots were the novistador bits, since i didn't feel comfortable spamming rockets at short ranged enemies
but most of the hard parts are 1000x easier when you can carpet bomb at will, and the S/A clear you need for the typewriter has no save limit, so you can save scum longer setpieces. speedrun clear requires no real navigation either, since you don't need to worry about collecting resources, requests, or treasures

I have the IR and totally get what you're saying, but I like shooting guys and I was never one that got much out of speedrunning anyway. My hangup is equal parts skill and desire to actually do what needs to be done.
I think I'm going to set this game down for now and maybe revisit this extra stuff if/when we get any DLC.
i'm not sure i'm gonna move on to an S+ attempt right away, either. if anything kinda want to do a normal slow run again this time, since my NG+ run didn't do any additional upgrading or using new weapons to save up cash

it's actually super cool that that works
no point in doing hardcore first?
It's essentially the same minus auto-saves and requiring perfect parries.

still need the S-rank on range 4-C, all S+ clears, minimalist, and frugalist
