You could save Beatrix sync for later in phase 2, so you either win before the finisher (or it finishes the fight). Her USB with chase is still quite good and can push damage well for phase 1.
Tried this, but it can't work. No matter how late you start Beatrix Sync, the AoE finisher triggers when Diabolos pops Guts with his Overflow attack towards the start of phase 3. Back to the drawing board.
My problem right now is phase 3 starts, all my damage is reduced to 0 constantly, and trying to remedy this wastes 5 or more seconds of BDL time, i.e. the only time you can meaningfully damage the boss. Whoever designed this fight should be thrown in the darkest hole and forgotten about.
Hmm. If you happen to have access to an AOE Esuna on your team (e.g. Tyro Glint), you could stand ready and fire that off after the finisher triggers, and try to finish the fight on the other side. That has the advantage of dodging a Holy Diffusion, but the disadvantage of needing to get Last Stand up again sooner (Gloomshade End Terror on turn 10 instead of turn 12)

The flow of phase 3 is such:
Goes sub40%. Follow up attacks deal null damage.
Hold all DPS until Tyro can Glint, then resume damage.
Everyone attacks once.
Beatrix Sync finisher triggers due to Overflow or timing out, shifts team to Dream state without Somnolence.
Aim DPS at Tear, shift back to Reality.
Boss debuffs everyone with Somnolence.
Hold all DPS until Tyro can Glint, then resume damage.
All BDL modes have been wasted by now, effective damage is null.
It's REALLY frustrating. There's no reason for it to be AoE except to mess with this fight specifically and make it harder.
Oh, I sort of assumed you were doing it more like how I was doing it, which is more like
goes sub-40
aim two en-holy USBs at the rift to flip to dream state
fight there until you die (usually to Gloomshade End Terror) or he does
and I was going to suggest you try
goes sub-40
aim two en-holy USBs something at the rift to flip to dream state
fight there until you die Gloomshade Ruinous Omen triggers Beatrix's finisher, destroying the rift
Tyro Glint
try to win before you die
Any way you're doing it, there shouldn't really be any holding of DPS to wait on Tyro Glint; just have Tyro sit on a full ATB bar when the critical moments approach
If you’re finding it impossible to not flip the rift with Beatrix’s Sync ender, maybe you could save a use of Fabula Mage and Alexander to use immediately after that, to flip it right back.

So crazily enough I'm running Fabula Raider. Actually, here's deets for people, instead of obliquely referencing things:
Beatrix goes UC self, HA into Sync, spam C1
Tyro goes Wrath, Wall, Wrath, Alexander, USB4, W/E to Elarra. After 100 crit Wrath, wait for phase 3 to Glint.
TG Cid goes LS x3, G+, Smite, G, G, Smite, AASB, Smite spam
Elarra goes G+, Diaja, USB1, then weave Diaja, USB1 to speed out SBs, Raider, USB2 for crit damage, call Alexander, Diaja/USB1
WoL goes Great Form until almost 2 bars, Glint, Saint Cross, Chain, G+, AASB, Great Form spam. Refresh Chain right before phase 3, as soon as he has meter and QC.
It usually spins up around 15s. The phase 1 to 2 transition varies on double casts, phase 2 flies by, and phase 3 brick walls me.
Go pick up Rose Finale for Beatrix from the lens shop, that kind of USB is Real Good in my experience.
My phys team had Agrias to stack all the imperils, so I am not sure how necessary imperils are; I think he only gets two levels of bar-holy in total, which Alexander can deal with. I had ATK song + Ultra Cure on Elarra, maybe try that? That lets you take F. Mage as your RW, which helps with flipping the rift on demand.
My proposal is something like
Phase 1:
- build meter until interrupt
- WoL chain -> glint
- Orlandu G+ -> USB
- Beatrix USB
- Tyro or Elarra call Alexander 1
assuming that's enough to get out of phase 1,
Phase 2:
- Beatrix Sync
- Orlandu Glint (hopefully at least twice?), AASB
- WoL AASB
- have Tyro and Elarra on standby for phase 3
Phase 3:
- if you have time, WoL refresh chain on Rift, plus F.Mage to finish it and flip to dream state
- if you don't have time (because Orlandu or Beatrix is on deck) use both Alexander and F.Mage to kill the rift and flip to dream state, and WoL refresh the chain when he can
- when Beatrix's Last Stand trips, rift will be destroyed and Diabolos flips back to reality. Tyro Glint to follow him,
- hopefully win?
edit: oh, another option for flipping to dream state at the start of phase 3, which was more relevant for me as Agrias did not have stacked holy aura. If Agrias happened to be ready and with her AASB cap break still active, she could aim her USB at the rift to refresh holy aura, and destroy it with no other help (thanks to the cap break).
Speaking of crystals, what are the next few dreambreakers? I kinda want to get 5 crystals to 65 for another ticket, but I also want to do that with a purpose.

What, don't you want the ability to make your characters carry Fire 1 so that they can slap Steiner around to give him Enfire?
...the sad thing is, if that was like, the effect of a Glint and it gave him Infusion stacking for all 3 elements, it might actually be worth attempting, as you'd be able to stack him up really quickly. But the USB sucks and they never tried that mechanic again, so...
Steiner has been shat on pretty hard by DeNA for pretty much the entirety of the game's history. The "Steiner Rush" USB is decent, though it doesn't provide element aura so you still can't really use him for magicite. It's in Wave 4 of the lens shop updates, which is still ~3 months out for us.
He was pretty decent in the BSB era. Enfire BSB with a 5-hit command if the enemy was weak to fire? Pretty good for the time. He also had a decent SSB, in that it was Imperil Fire.
But things kinda ran away from him with USBs, and the rise of the Machinists.

He had a sword that gave 5 defense. Which was often carried when people were wrath entrusting.
Yeah, wish I had Vivi's Fire AASB instead of his Ice/Lightning one to take advantage of the Imperils.
While I do love Realm Chains baked in Haste, it feels like you really have to look for outside sources 90% of the time due to their cast time. At least for Gen 1 realm chains.

Steiner's awakening is where his enElement shenanigans seem to be worked out. It gives him stacking fire/ice/lit, and every other fire/ice/lit spellblade used, increases his enElement by one. And he's got doublecast from the awakening.

This worked! Not exactly to plan, but I got over the finish line.
Things lined up such that a volley of attacks from WoL, Beatrix, and TG Cid pushed phase 3 without wasting any damage (no way I can reproduce that exact set of W-casts, but future me problem).
Tyro and Elarra were at ~40% ATB, so while he was phase shifting their ATB accumulated and after Holy Diffusion but before Nightmare Sense I aimed a Fabula Mage and Alexander at the Rift, shifting him to Dream State.
My three attackers absolutely laid into Diabolos, munching like 20% of his health off.
Beatrix Sync wears off! AoE finisher knocks him back into reality, and takes another chunk of HP off.
Tyro is ready with Glint immediately.
Not sure where I am in turn order anymore, so Elarra sits and waits for Ruinous Omen while DPS continues sans Beatrix.
Ruinous Omen comes, I'm ready with USB1 to counter, but Rage 3 + -3 Holy attack nerfs DPS considerably.
Limp across finish line!
Ended up running ATK Song/Ultra Cure on Elarra with Fabula Mage as RW.
Edit: I'm dumb. I went to add Diabolos to my Magicite deck, and lo and behold I was using my +Mag Madeens, since I modified the magic clear team I didn't end up using as a base. D'oh.
Hmmm... Apparently Banner 2 for this week's event has Lightning on it despite not featuring in JP. Maybe... There's a chance her Holy tech returns this week?
MM/DMT on Elarra and Fang. No RW. Ramuh main magicite. Elarra spams hastega. Everyone else just does DPS stuff.
My recall of FF13's Torment is that Snow's AASB shits all over it. Its main schtick is that it does a lot of damage. So his damage reduction shield is GG.

Why is lightning's useless soulbreak better than terras?
Hmmm...I mean it's a COVID world and everyone everywhere is looking to cut costs. It still is a bit worrisome. Looks like their shutting down French and Spanish support for FFRK. I've read the spanish translation and to be honest it isn't that good but that's gotta be quite a lot of jobs between Spanish/French speaking customer support and translators. You could also probably tell that maybe not many people on those markets (like me!) were spending whale amounts of money, especially when the economy is that bad.
Still, after seeing my sister "lose" Mobius, I guess I shouldn't be surprised if FFRK dies next year.

I wouldn't be shocked if it was only one or two people each, to be honest, and I can't imagine it'd be too many more than that. There's not actually that much text that needs to be translated, and support has always been... not extensive, shall we say.
That new Fang ability looks really nice. 7 hits? I'll take it. She was part of my Titan team with only 5 hits.
What's especially fun is that she's got her really good USBs to make it stronger. Either you use Bahamut Dive to make it activate instantly, or Whim of Ragnarok to make it land instantly. Or both! I'm thinking it might be good to give her Whirlwind and Lifesiphon, so that she can use those two and her Glint, and forego Hurricane Bolt. But even if one is using Hurricane Bolt instead of Whim of Ragnarok, instant 7-hit jumps for 3 turns sounds really nice.
I drew Fang's Sync off this banner, I'm going to try entrusting her a bunch of meter (probably from Tyro) and go USB -> other USB -> Sync -> spam C1 linked to Whirlwind, see if that can do some work
