I spent an hour litter-picking earlier. (I had gloves, used a litter picker and I figure most trash has been out in the sun and rain for a while so... should be safe?)
Normally I find maybe 1-2 cigarette butts at most, but tonight I found ~40. Evidently some stress-smokers in our neighborhood.
We know someone who runs a breakfast place that is shutting down temporarily because takeout just didn't sell. To avoid stuff spoiling, he gave away their extra food. We already had 3 dozen eggs in the house - we just doubled that. Guess egg salad is in our future.
Today I will give blood because they still want my hot delicious blood and I know it cause they told me they should take more than they do what am I doin with it anyway nothing productive Ill tell everybody that for free
I work for a small video production company, so this has been... interesting. All my shoots have been cancelled and the office is closed, so everyone took computers home to edit. For now, there’s enough post-production to keep us busy for a while, but we’ll run out of work in a few weeks if nothing comes in.
Good news is my boss has said we should be able to stay afloat for a couple months, and that was before the Canadian government announced its relief plan. If no new work comes in, I’ll use this as an opportunity to work on my post skills, which I could honestly really use. I’m shit with after effects, so I’m going to be tutorials like crazy.
Working from home means I actually take lunch breaks and get to cook for my family, so I’m into it so far!
My wife and I both have a week of "spring break" coming up next week, luckily we were already planning on a staycation. It will be interesting to have so much free time as I've noticed I'm relying more on my routines than I usually do. Anything more than that feels like a herculean effort of willpower.
I'm hoping I can overcome that and get some work in on some web app side projects that have been collecting dust. On the other hand, I've been curious about running a roll20 game for a while and that might help me and my friends stay sane...

Went up my allotment for the first time this year today. Shoveled a pile of horse shit from one place to a different place 2 metres away.
So much work to do. So much fucking grass. Going to try and get up there regularly from now on. Isolate myself amongst the weeds and taters.

if anyone wants to run a pbp rpg thing
i am always down for that
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
I went to the grocery store at open time (8AM) and there was a line 50-100 deep to get in. F that. I might just have to order in one pizza per day from now on and subsist off that.

Viruses aren't ideological I don't understand why people think they can just be brave or whatever and a virus won't fuck with them?
A lot of people seem to be responding to SARS2 like it's terrorism. Don't be afraid or the virus wins!

I mean, legitimately, I think this is based on an overall lack of precedent (whether or not there's actually a lack of precedent is its own story, but people are at least perceiving this as an unprecedented event).
You see people panic buying in grocery stores, stocking up on canned goods and toilet paper.
You have stuff like this, where people are just going to be brave and keep moving forward.
Those aren't pandemic responses, not really. Those are responses to blizzards (or other natural disasters), or responses to terrorism. In the absence of a previous pandemic to model their behavior on, they're choosing the next closest thing.
There are still a couple of unique qualities here, with like, cleaning supplies and any sort of mask (I've also noticed every pharmacy in the area being stripped clean of thermometers, which I think would apply). But I think overall folks are having trouble figuring out how to panic/prepare for this sort of thing.
We were still able to elope in Portland, OR on Saturday. But we came back home on Tuesday instead of honeymooning in Japan as originally planned. We were sad to reschedule, but we felt better doing it. It ended up being the right call as things have continued to escalate.
But in happier news we've still been having some quality time together and at least we are officially married. We can always go back and enjoy stuff in the city another time and we were able to get flight credits for whenever we can reschedule the honeymoon.

my experience living in southwest england:
ive had bronchitis for the past few weeks, still went into work with lots of throat sweets and honey lemon tea and trying not to have coughing fits at my desk
last week my boss advised i contact 111 (NHS non-emergency) and check if i should self-isolate given my symptoms
they went uhhhhh yes. yes you should, for at least two weeks
so i am stuck at home
my boss said it is paid leave that doesn't count as sickness absence but then HER boss turned around and said no fuck that it actually is sickness absence and i won't get paid
so i am tangling with HR over the legality of my situation while staying the fuck away from work because i don't want to put myself or others at risk
i went out earlier today with a facemask and keeping my distance from others, went to three shops to look for some essentials
all totally fucking ransacked, no fruit/veg/bread/milk etc, just some meat and canned stuff was all i could find
pretty scary! i am v worried about what the coming weeks hold given today alone british cases and deaths have doubled and will probably triple tomorrow
Stay safe Beasteh! Do you live by any asian markets you could try? I hear sometimes they're better stocked these days

All the hair cut places around here closed down for a two week minimum, so took the ol' clippers to the head and beard tonight and shorn it short. Feels refreshing. Hopefully when this is all over my favorite stylist is still around, she rocks. Her boyfriend is ex military so gets a stipend already, so they won't be terribly off, but I feel for em.
Today I continued with my Bread Adventures, feeding my levain, sourdough starter (which had a rapid increase in volume and erupted out of the jar I threw it in, so I had to transfer it to a bigger container), and some overnight pizza dough which we made for dinner
I also cleaned about 80 percent of my room, and it hits a weird pleasure centre in my brain to look around at all these shiny clean surfaces and be like I did this
Diary, Day 4:
My kitchen cabinet is fixed.
I went to 5 places, including one of the local Asian grocery marts, and couldn't find any hint of TP. #hashpipe reported that Costco has things pretty well organized, so I am thinking about heading over there tomorrow. I don't want to be a hoarder, but I think buying the smallest available option of a sanitation necessity isn't really hoarding. It's not my fault smaller packs aren't available!
The other option is the original plan, wait into next week to even start any kind of serious looking. Current status is still looking good, over a roll and a half. Probably still closer to two rolls than even a roll and a half.
We'll see. We'll see.
Oh, and it turned out that Sassori had eloped to my city. I thought they had already got married and were out honeymooning or visiting or whatever, so I bothered them with food and tourism suggestions. Sorry! I didn't mean to distract from much more important goings on.
Although to be fair, I am not sure the institution of marriage is more important than Olympia Provisions.

It was not a bother at all! We like getting suggestions when we travel — especially from the locals.
We just stayed at a B&B outside of Portland that offered an elopement package and then enjoyed a little bit of Portland before things got a bit more dicey. We at least got to enjoy some nature while trying to avoid the crowds. We’ll definitely be going back again once things calm down.
was exactly like being there except their dog didn't acknowledge me through the computer screen, which was kind of a bummer because she's normally super psyched.

I got laid off from my job when the governor of Washington put the kibosh on all gatherings of 250+ people. My theater seats 2200. The organization's directors decided immediately to shut everything down and cut losses until we can reopen, which at this point is ??? days/weeks/months away.
It's kind of funny, actually; we got word of the governor's proclamation in the middle of our morning work call. We'd only just gotten started with tech rehearsals and actors onstage. We were merely two days into the big grind part of the process: 14 hours days, six days a week, during the tech rehearsal/preview period. Live theatre's a brutal business.
The stage crew chief gathered together all the in-house tech staff and the hiring hall folks on the show run into a big meeting and gave us details on the situation. We went home before lunch. We haven't been back since, and none of us known when/if we'll return. I cleared my locker out before I left, figuring it would be a while before I'd be back; I wanted to stash my tools in my apartment in case another gig popped up, or if I just needed them for home projects.
Most of our equipment is still on stage. Lots of it, in fact. Mechanized work platforms, industrial power tools, etc. We left it all in place. We didn't go back to stow it, after the meeting.
That was over a week ago, but it feels like forever because of the parting gift I took with me from the theater: a nasty cold. Unpleasant enough on its own, but when coupled with sudden unemployment, cabin fever, and the looming prospect of a widespread live entertainment industry collapse in the face of this pandemic, it felt ever so slightly worse. Now I'm secluded to my tiny studio apartment with a vast backlog of content to keep me occupied, but no will to dive into any of it. I pray that unemployment insurance will see me through this, or at least until I get fed up enough to retrain and apply for a job in a sector less sensitive to recessions than my current one.
Oh, and I broke my only pair of prescription glasses, too. Unavoidable accidental collision with a glass wall. New pair is set to arrive some time next week. Allegedly.

It’s about a third of the normal crowds and traffic. Which is less, but that reduces the crowds from packed like sardines to Disney World.
This city is fucked
"oh I'm young, I'll be fine!"

Also you should see if you have grocery delivery, or at least a friend willing to make the runs
If you have normal, non-Corona bronchitis you probably don't want to risk doubling up on fun lung illnesses
