Like the Teen Titans comics, the Marvel writers likely feel the motivating Macguffin isn't as important as the teenage characters and their teenage problems. Internet gas? Thanos attacking Earth? What really matters to teenage readers is how the non-binary character interacts with the Goth vampire.
