When I first powered up with the new mobo nothing happened at first and I was all anxiety.
Once the install is done i'll try to fix my cabling mess.
And question. The case fan has a bigger four prong adapter and a smaller 3 pin one. My psu came with an adapter to turn that 4 into a smaller 4 to fit the fan plugs on the mobo but it seems backwards? Edit, i'm a dum and just had to read my mobo manual
Honestly, I've never once cared about that. the number of people who upgrade processors without upgrading the motherboard/RAM is very, very, very small. And if you only keep the same socket for two generations, there's usually almost zero point in upgrading one generation to another. the cost/performance upgrade isn't worth it.
As long as the specs/design for coolers and the like all carry over, they could change the socket every generation and it would not matter to 99%+ of the people out there.
Ok I want a video card but I dont wanna spend $texas and I want it now its approx $400 (5600XT) but Im not going to be allowed to get a new one for ages if I do, so im stuck with old tech with all the new shit poppin off in the next year
The wife suggested that if I do I should essentially rebuild my old PC since its all laying around but we would buy a new case and SSD and give it to the kiddo so he has his own, great idea!
Or I keep my PC just deal with my aging video card (970) for another year and maybe next tax season get something more inline with the next generation of games coming out. But then the kiddo wouldn't have a video card for this old PC and to get something $250-$300 which feels like a waste to get something super entry level but it would work out cheaper.

Is the big 4-prong adapter this?
Yes. The adapter that came with the psu looks like the cpu cooler fan cable but with the clip aligned to the other side so it wouldn't fit in any of the fan plugs.

tl;dr Canadian dollar sucks donkey dick.
970 Makes a good budget build video card at 1080p for the kids. My old one went into my son's PC and they can play basically everything they want on it.

I refuse to believe that Molex is still a thing.
I ordered two new 120mm fans for my case a year or so ago without even thinking to check first, just assuming they'd come with 3-pin plugs.

I think he meant this (I'm trying out Opera on mobile and it doesn't like the drop-down for images for some reason):
So I have an X570 TUF with Wifi. There's a white GPU light as part of the "this shit is broken!" lights for diagnostics on the motherboard. I updated the bios to 1407 and now that white light won't go away. Any ideas? The PC is working and I can play games, but the light won't go out! I do have a brand new GPU on the way so maybe it'll go away when I swap it out? I've rebooted, hard shut off and then turned it back on, etc. It's weird!

Maybe your GPU's underpowered, maybe it's not properly seated? Maybe it's not officially compatible or something stupid like that.

You should contact Asus support, I think.
I mean, it's working properly in every metric I can test. Games run fine, temps are fine, etc.
I'm just gonna wait to do more troubleshooting until the 2070 Super gets here. If it's still an issue once that's installed, I'll shoot 'em an email.
I started in the 90s, when the price premium for a pre-built was several hundred dollars, at a minimum. Even now when it's like $100 at some of the boutique places I still do it because I like it, and honestly the physical assembly part of the process has never been easier.
My next build is going to be some kind of SFF just to bring the challenge back (and get some of my desk back).
At what point do yall just buy a prebuilt and leave all the technical wizardry to others?
About the same point I stop cooking my own food and just buy pre-made. eg: when the volume involved makes it impractical, or the logistics. But for myself: I will stay on prebuilt until it's no longer a thing that can reasonably be done.

I actively enjoy building my PC, upgrading it, and keeping it active. It's like my own little ship of Theseus that plays video games.
My pc is built and running well. Just wondering if there's anything maybe i've forgotten on the software side.
Have the newest amd drivers for my gpu and windows is up to date. Is there anything else I should be doing? Haven't checked for a bios update but it's working fine and don't want to mess with that.

You have a 3600 right? I would probably do a BIOS update just because they have been introducing stability fixes and other optimizations. But see what others think too.

Yeah, I do. I'll check for that when I get home. Thank you.

Typically, BIOS updates are not recommended unless you find your system isn't working the way it should. Always research it to determine if what they add/fix is something you might benefit from.
Fucking up the BIOS isn't as bad as it used to be, but still a pain if you don't need to do it.
Double check your device manager to ensure you've installed all support drivers for your MB.
What they actually said was "through" 2020, not up until.
Also b550 chipset coming out 6 months after launch of new processors forcing people to purchase B/X4** boards or B/X3** boards if they want to get into the 3000 series of processors.
Basically if you bought a new system for the recently launched 3600 with the hope you would be able to upgrade after a year or two then fuck you I guess?
People rip intel for precisely this shit and while AMD has done WAY better with Ryzen it doesn't mean there's a free pass when they do it.
edit:
As said in the video linked above, if they had said B/X5** boards were needed for future zen processors then people would have made different choices when building Ryzen 3000 series systems. But they didn't say that or even hint at that so all the new 3600 owners who bought B450 Tomahawk Max boards can just suck it up.
Yay AMD.
Boredom and social isolation have pushed me to start my second PC build from scratch. Parts are currently on their way - save for the video card which I'll need to psyche myself up for to get a fancy rtx card.

The big hint would've been they weren't supporting PCIE4 on B450 boards in any real capacity.
Anyone have a line on a good atx or micro atx motherboard that is actually in stock? The one I ordered was broken on delivery and now everything is out of stock.

No, but the 3 pin works on a 4 pin board connection, just had to connect it properly haha

It might not be a bad idea to make sure that the power cable to the card is correctly seated, I suppose.
The RGB will make it faster though. Won't need to overclock as much.
