Watched a "20 satisfactory tips" video and man, there's a lot of shortcuts they don't do a good job of telling you about.
There's a clone function, people!!! A clone function!!!
I agree that there's a bunch of stuff the game could do a better job telling you about, but "sample building" is listed as an option on screen every time you're placing a building.

After several false starts I have a very rudimentary oil setup and a coal plant to power it. Now how to figure out how to get this shit back to my main base in the least pain-in-the-ass way possible.

I finally got back into this but on Steam this time. However I have to notify all of you that I am cheating. I've started fresh so many times that I can't stand the biofuel stage so I got a mod that lets me build a little infinite power generator. I will only be using it until I get coal power going and then deleting it.
I really enjoy the initial designing the building of a factory but those bio burners, ugh.
Finally got Nuclear Power going. Found a cave in the southernmost section just below the red bamboo forest with a Uranium deposit so it's entirely contained beneath the mountain. Uranium gathering, manufactoring, power, and storage are all in here. And just to be safe I sealed off both ends of the cave with foundations and walls so I never need to actually go in there again. I can just load more raw mats into a storage bin outside that will feed into my smart splitters and go where they need to go. With all the storage I put in here it should run for as long as I choose to play this save without my interference.

I thought this game was like another builder game SCRAP MECHANIC or MINECRAFT requiring imagination (which I lack) to make something nice. I'm glad I was wrong: definitely need some imagination to make your production efficient, but the base building blocks are all there. Kind of reminds me of SUB NAUTICA honestly. Managed to dump eight hours into the thing and it was definitely time well spent. I'm on the green planet and haven't really gotten into base building, more just exploring the map and seeing how far into the tiers I could go.
I did have a first hour, nearly dying to the natives. I also fell down into a cavern and died: I was so excited to get to this Cooper node that I didn't see the terrain change. I then saw online that these planets are handmade which means the devs purposely put that in. Good times.
@ED! there are not Planets, there is just one planet.
the thing you selected was the starting biome, if you run around enough you can find the other start locations.

the world is very large however.
That makes sense. I thought it was weird that your AI had a name for "this random planet. . ."
Not wanting to get too spoiled on future upgrades, but are there better conveyers belts? Ones that are a bit faster. Now that the Tier Upgrades are actually slowing down and requiring quite an investment of materials, I have the time to look at the production I've got going on. I mange to get nearly 100% efficiency on most of my machines, but some just aren't made to be efficient I'm guessing? Biomass production using leaves for example. Because the ratio of leaves to biomass is so low I'm guessing is one reason why things are so slow, but wood is similarly slow. Mycelle (the 1-1 biomass) seems the most efficient, but it still gets bogged down in the constructor waiting for the conveyer belt to pull all the completed material out of tank.

Yeah, there's better conveyor belts. And they feel real good compared to the Mk. 1 versions.

There are much better conveyor belts. Details in spoiler:
Super-important point about conveyor belts: If you want to upgrade them, you just select the new conveyor belt to build and aim at the old one. This allows you to build a complete replacement in a single click.
Do not, like I had been doing, delete the old belt and then build the new one in its place.

Just got MK2 belts and I absolutely would have done that.
My major concern at the moment, other than finding another one of the umbrella plants that I panic ate when getting attacked by a flame monster, is when to transition to actual factories. Everything right now is all open bazaar, because I don't seen how the point of making a building if all the ore is outside. . .but maybe that's working as intended.
At some point I'm going to have to get creative, because all these storage units and smelters at odd angles with wires running around is really pushing against my anal need for clean lines.

Buildings are just showing off. Assembly lines want to be free range.

My strategy was to do whatever until it became too much to bear and then do a massive rebuild.
In terms of actual guidelines, hitting T3 and T5 are good points for rebuilds; T3 gets you sustainable power and T5 gets you plastic and rubber, both of which can involve massive changes to your lines.

Foundations are the key; your stuff will snap to them like a grid. Feel free to set up a container or 2 that will slowly fill with concrete so you can grab a big pile when you do eventually want to lay down a big foundation.

I think when you get the mark 2 and mark 3 miners is when it's best to rebuild, as your production massively increases and you'll need to rethink your layouts to take advantage.
good lord aluminium is a chore to get set up. There's, what, 4 steps to get an aluminum ingot? And one of those steps requires me to tie in my plastic production which is like a mile away.

Looks better than my color experiments. I like the purple and orange, and the yellow and orange stripe buildings.

If a foundry is only outputting 30 ingots a minute why use anything higher than tier 1?
Unless you have a shitload of materials for higher tiers, which, then yeah thats fair.

Our first coal setup was a bit of a squeeze, but we got every MW out of that little spot that we could:
Turns out the Explorer has amazing grip on the tires.
We decided to cover up the transit line between our aluminum/fuel area and the more central area. Turned out better than I expected.
I have no explanation. My buddy was bored one day when I wasn't online.
