I have to skype with my boss in an hour. I'm in a weird limbo where I, like, still work for him and everything, but am already half out the door for the fall.
I've been moderately productive, but probably not on the tasks he wanted me to do. We'll see how this goes.

a lot of the stuff I used to listen to I don't anymore, because I find the content objectionable and don't want it in front of the kiddos
the hip hop and r&b I still listen to is still probably not a great choice for the kids, so I kinda default to motown but I wish there were more music that I like and that I'm comfortable playing for my 5 year old
Blarg, the lady I'm dating wanted to confirm we're doing okay last night, which like...we are? I don't know, it all moved a little faster than I expected because of the lockdown and her confronting me about it kind of fucked me up. If I'm being honest with myself I am more fragile right now than I admit and I'm not sure what I want. I started dating her because we were both pretty busy doing our own stuff and so it seemed like less pressure. My gut reaction is to end it so I don't lead her down some path I'm not 100% here for and end up hurting both of us more. It's very hedgehog dilemma, but in the bad way in my head this morning.

@Bogart I saw your post in the last chat and thought you might enjoy this. I'm playing an old "gridder" dungeon crawler from 1994 with an in-game mapping feature, and there is a class dedicated to making correct and complete map that identifies hazards.
I am just going to state that the last 3 episodes of Clone Wars have been the best Star Wars content in a long time. Even better than Rebels which I think still has some great edge of the empire feelings to it.

Damnit, I missed D&D chat because I was too busy. . .playing D&D.
I'll echo a lot of things already said, starting with system matters. Reason being is pretty simple - you tend to spend most of your time doing things that are supported by the rules. There are probably Pathfinder/D&D groups out there doing mostly free-form storytelling but it's more likely skewed towards combat with enough roleplaying to make your character feel like a part of the world, they belong in the group, and to justify any goals they might have.
It's also true that the group of people you play with matters, though I wouldn't pit that against the system - it's another piece of the puzzle and there are multiple layers to this: buy in to the general conceit of roleplaying, to the particular type of game you want to run (not system or even setting, but themes like horror, politics, etc), to the setting, and yes, to the system.
The last element in my opinion, is the GM. A good GM understand both of the above to facilitate play in a way that keeps people interested and maximizes enjoyment of the game.
Breaking it down into a formula: system + player buy in + competant GM = good game. You need all 3.
System-wise, I really run the gamut of games.
Burning Wheel remains my favorite game ever because it's both extremely crunchy and the mechanics put players at the center of the conflict and force them to roleplay. It's also a really complex system and one that breaks down if the GM resorts to too much fiat. Part of player buy in is that everyone is expected to know the basics, plus any unique rules that might apply to their character, which is fair.
I also really like the simplicity of a lot of the retro-clones of D&D. I find the math creep of newer system like Pathfinder gets too unwieldy. Eventually all combat takes hours and you're doing algebra instead of pretending to be an elf. I also like it because D20 is so easy to teach (even though it instills some bad habits) and the general conceits of fantasy are a common cultural touchstone that don't need to know much to understand the major archetypes of Cleric, Thief, Warrior, Wizard.
My current project is really leaning into the survival aspects of D&D to the point that I've rewritten the mechanics around light, food, and equipment to make it less about book keeping and more about drama. The tone of the game changes when players find themselves deep in a dungeon and they've run out of light or days from civilization and their rations have run out or their weapons are degrading. Needing to maintain kit creates an immediate equipment treadmill and suddenly high quality gear becomes incredibly valuable and a reason for adventure in itself.
Anyway, here is a level of a dungeon I sketched up yesterday during "work"
